Ive got a 3 year old HP Scanjet 4200C.
It was set up originally for 98 OS.
New rig has XP OS, requiring HP's upgraded software to function.

Scanner no longer reproduces sharp clear images it did w/98 OS.
Results I get now are cloudy, no matter what image program I run them through.
Can anyone suggest a new scanner for me, one that will scan film photo prints [not negatives] w/like quality? Have scanners improved much in last 3 years?

Thanks
E.T.
Pic attached is cystal clear, in focus 35mm print. Note the foggy detail:

Did you try downloading the XP drivers for your scanner?

Hi Lara, & thanks. :)

Yes,I tried MS's drivers for XP early on, but ended up purchasing HP's driver on CD. This got the scanner up & running, though the quality has never been the same.....maybe its a "memory" malfunction on my part, lol, perhaps scanning photos for print was not that good to begin with.

Im hoping someone else scans photos for print or posting, & can tell me what [if any] scanners yield incredible results.

I wonder if the driver online is newer than the one you received? Feb. 03?

Try posting over at Computing Review. Peter might have some suggestions.
