But not until next year...

And as for the comparison between XI and X, it's really hard to compare the two. FFX is a story-driven RPG, while FFXI is a MMORPG, a game you play as a single character with countless others exploring a massive online world. How FFXI fares as such, remains to be seen, there aren't a huge number of PC FFXI players yet, and it's being met with mixed reactions.

What it comes down to is a matter of taste, if you like MMORPG's, you'd probably go with FFXI, if you're more into the FF-Formula RPG's, FFX is the clear winner.

In addition to paying for the game/hardrive package and a network adapter, there is a monthly fee to play the game. I don't remember what it is..for some reason $13 a month sticks in my mind..maybe somebody can help me out here.

FFXI will be online only?

If that is true and it has no 1 player option I will erase it from my new PS2 HDD the minute I unwrap it from the box.

Ain't no way in hell I am paying a monthly fee to play a game which really only brings frustration and misery to the vast majority of players.

WTF would I pay to spend hours upon hours leveling a char up just to die and then spend even more hours upon hours to gain that same level back just to die again and lose that level again.

Plus the people that play online games are in the majority the kind of people do not like to "hang" with.

Most are over-acheving, self-centered punks that I have NO desire to asscoiate with.

I knew FFXI was going to be online... but I thought it would be atleast 1 player playable. :(

I was going to play the 1 player game and not even bother with the online MMORPG portion.

So know if I buy the PS2 HDD I have a useless MMORPG taking up space on it?

It better be uninstallable.

Final Fantasy XI will be coming out for PS2 soon, but an additional PS2 hard drive will be necessary for online play. FINAL FANTASY X is the best game ever, and no matter how great XI is it will never surpass the incredible blessing upon man that has been granted to us in the form of this gaming treasure.

How are we gonna chat with people with the PS2 version??? Apparently I'm the only one thinking about this. Originally I had planned to buy this game on PS2 cuz I didn't want to break tradition. Now though I'm thinking it might be more of a hassle than anything. Does anyone know what the plans for talking in FFXI will be without resorting to have to buy a PS2 keyboard??

From the screens shot I saw of the game chat is displayed in text.

Unless Sony is planning the game to use some kind of voice-recognition program for the PS2 headset I don’t see how chatting would be possible except with the purchase of the USB keyboard.

It is hard to find alot of info on this aspect of the game though.

Either they are trying to hide the fact gamers will need to "also" by a keyboard to play the game or they are furiously working on the problem.

Found this article though... (http://sony.gamerfeed.com/gf/pr/5327/)

Perhaps Sony is working on the problem?

My guess is it is not making the console version text-chat capable, but rather making the PC version voice-chat capable that is the question.

For $100 bucks you get FF 11 and the Sony HDD.Why pay this much for a console game when you can buy the PC version at a much cheaper price?

You guys really need to start researching material at ign rather then "think" of what is going to happen.

Anyways Final Fantasy 11 (And it's expansion cd) are coming with the HDD for free. The HDD is going to cost $100 whether the game came with it or not. Also you get 1 month free to see if you even like the game or not. I guarantee friends of Everquest or Final Fantasy will definately like FF 11.

As far as the $12.95 a month goes, this is not just some elaborate scheme for Squaresoft and Sony to get rich! Have you ever played any online game that also has a single player element and you don't have to pay to play? If your answer is yes then the game also has hackers. Sure you say, Socom 2, it has no hacks right? True, but give it time, already I've seen the "no vote" cheat in which our team was unable to boot a team killer off our team. There are no hackers on Xbox Live because you pay to play xbox live, they constantly update thier DNAS firewalls to prevent any and all hacks. Just like FF 11 is doing. Oh and yes you talk to other players via a keyboard not headset...(Any usb keyboard works, the keyboard right below your fingers right now will work, don't have to buy a sony keyboard.)

You may think, wow I have to buy the HDD just to play 1 game for $100 what a rip off. Well the HDD is a 40gig harddrive that allows you to download new content for old/newer games. Eg. Already it has been announced on ign that Socom 2, and Grand Turismo 4 will have new downloadable content when the hdd comes out March 23rd (New maps, guns, characters, cars anyone?). Which will increase the life and replay value of a lot of games. In the same sense, FF 11 will always have new content added to it once or twice a month. Already I've seen battles with giant frogs with over 1 million hp, super boses, New years, christmas, easter festivals, fireworks displays, the list goes on and on.

If you compare FF10 to FF11...Yes they are both great but...I played FF10 for roughly 80 hours getting everyones secret weapons, and all the aeons...(yes I dodged 200 lightning bolts for lulu's weapon (what a rush! NOT!).) Sure it's a great game but after 80 hours, and nothing left to do, it's just going to rot in a tomb (cd case) and perhaps one day be played again for 30 minutes just to see the aeons ultimate moves. Now for FF11, if your looking for a game to keep you busy for a long long long freakin hardcore time, then I assure you that FF11's 3000+ possible hours will keep you busy. $12.95 a month? Well you got a few options:A) Do $13 worth of chores for your parents a month (one week of chores, wow expensive.) B) Get a job and buy anything you desire including FF 11. C) Press ALT+TAB and begin to cry or D) Don't play FF 11. The choice is yours but i highly encourage option B.

RPG's are great but they are in real short supply right now, now that everything is going online. And the best is yet to come. If your looking for a cheap online experience get a PS2 (which is now boxed with a network adapter). Xbox Live is great too, but you can NEVER avoid the pay to play option. Or you can buy a $2000 computer which will be outdated in a week and for some reason people say this is the cheapest route? I say I say I say whateva!

Had to be the easiest FF ever, No freedom whatsoever. I just can't enjoy this game, I've played every FF even that crap mystic quest and the translated Japan 2 and 3 ones. FF10 is a good game but not even close to ff7 8 or 9. What the heck happened to the world map in 10? That made me mad, Took away a lot of freedom. And what happened to all the choices of what to say?I remember a lot of dialogue choices in ff7-9 but not many at all in FFX. I hate the voices in the game, I eventually had to mute it, Theres just something about the voices in FFX I can't stand...and I liked the voices in other RPG's. I personally like my RPG's to be more like a good book then a good movie, You know to have deeper storylines and such. But then agian some people are just won over by pretty graphics, Cutscenes, And a pitiful romance )(Yuna and Tidus)(. You'd be surprised how many people agree with me that this game has not lived up to the greatness that once was FF. Most just rate it high simply because its a final fantasy and in most peoples eyes any FF deserves a good rating regardless of the actual game.

I think they should have made a second series for a online FF instead of making 11 a MMORPG. You know something like Final Fantasy Online or something. Im not to into MMORPG's really and after watching my friends brother play FFXI on computer I just am not impressed, I haven't played the game throughly but from what my friends brother has said and from what I have observed there is nothing in this game that really sets it apart from many other MMORPG's. At least not to the magnitude it should.

I have to disagree, I think that Online RPG's are ok but not the best to come really, it seems like it will kill a lot of the story aspect of RPG's. However if they combined a MMORPG with say RPGMAKER2 perhaps....where you could create your own town, Army, Storyline.....Think about it, Others could download your town information onto there hardrives and even move in or something.......ah anyways back to reality. FFXI in my opinion is a good game and even though it seems all to similar to other MMORPG's I still would get it....if only I had the money for the hardrive and stuff.....or newer computer with a better connection....

Ok guys, my turn. I'm a ex-veteran of FFXI for the PC, please listen to me and avoid it like the plague, its the worst excuse for a Final Fantasy game, hmmm.....to be truthful it actually has very little in common with any of the FF games except for some chocobos a guy called Cid and some all to familar monsters and thats about it.

However, what is neglected to mention is that if you don't play your character for 3 months for what-ever-reasons, your account information/cd keys/log-in information will be banned causing the software to be totally useless to anyone but the recyclers, the PS2 version WILL be affected by this, I posted about this in the PC section so check it out.

Also, what is missing from all your arguments. The game will ship with the normal version of FFXI with slightly out-of-date patches (patches take insanely log to download even with T1) , rise of zilart expansion and the HDD, HOWEVER what isn't mentioned is that the next expansion for the PC version is due out soon so how will the PS2 players get that? Unless they release a PS2 version of the new expansion at the same time?

The game is almost totally dominated by non-english speaking Japanese who in quite racist to the point of refusing to even acknowledge the existance of NA players, never mind actually grouping with them.

The game is heavily into group levelling as with mostly any other Mmorpg however after a certain level getting into groups to level or even trying to create groups becomes an extremely difficult and highly aggriavating experience, often resulting in being forced to wait hours and hours to get a small fraction of EXP......screw it, i'm just not even going to bother no more to list all the problems, if you guys want to waste $50-$100 then be my guest :-p

I have six or seven friends who are currently playing FFXI. From what I heard from them, the general idea is that the game is fun and very addictive. About Japanese being racist, I dont' think they speak English very well. So normally, they don't bother playing with American players.

Yes, the game *is* fun for the first few months then it becomes a pile of trash. And if Squares-Enix additude towards the game doesn't even phase you? Quote from Square on FFXI "Final Fantasy XI ends when the player gets bored" well for me, I got bored about 5 months of playing it, bored and pissed off at the game.

And as for racist Japanese players, you'd be surprised what our Linkshell on Cerberus had, and you also say that Japanese players keep to themselves, well they also make up a massive portion of the player population, and since this game is heavily reliant on constant grouping......well, you work it out, the only way for NA players to get the most out of the game is to get into a massive linkshell get plenty of friends and I mean "Plenty" and only then could you get the most from it. Personally, I think I joined way to soon and should have waiting until the U.S userbase grew and grew.

Trust me, I played the game. Don't come complaining back if what I tell you is true, cuz it is. And i'll only say "I told you so" fifty times over :P If you are serious about the game, i'll give you 2 words of advice and there'll be your only hope to pass the level 40 barrier.

Generally, I find all online RPGs boring. It's always "hack, hack, hack some more Healers heal us!, and more hakcing" I only told you what my friends told me. They have been playing for months too, but they are still at it. And it seems more of my friends are considering to get into the whole ffxi scheme. You are probably right about you joining the game too soon. Perhaps, you'll find it fun once you start playing ffxi again.

My only advice to you is to check out ign.com or even Gamespot and check the reviews as well as reader reviews on this game. Also just to warn you, I never bought this game due to the fact you have to pay monthly to play it, although they say it is definetly worth it.

The game does come with the expansion however if you are in the U.S. or Canada (which I don't think you are judging by the price of the game) you have to buy the other expansion that is out seperately. If you go to Outpost.com you can get FFXI with HDD for $60.00 and then the new expansion for $20.00. I've seen this game with the HDD at a lot of places I wouldn't say its hard to find.

Maybe it is not that hard to find, but I just don't see it in many stores anymore. I was also at EB and the clerk there was saying to another customer that EB does not carry FFXI nor any longer, the game is hard to find due to the new Slim PS2 systems inability to utilize the HD!

Oh well, I can't wait for FFXII!
