Can anyone tell me a good RPG that i can purchase, that i can play off-line? The last one i played was Final Fantasy Vlll, i would like something on the same line.

I've just purchased Final Fantasy Xl, and the complete EverQuest, but i can only play them online, i want something that i can just kick back, and play without being on-line.

Well, if you can find it, try out Silver for the FF in you. Other notable offline RPG's are Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, and along the lines of FF as well, Anachronox. Morrowind is the MOST relaxed of the bunch... you can do things at your own leisure, and the gameplay is relaxed and as slow-paced as you make it out to be. Warning: Morrowind is for experienced role-players... there's really no guidelines or set boundries for the main quest. A lot of people are put off by this, since it makes the game seem directionless... however, it is a totally rewarding experience overall.

I second Morrowind. In your own words " I want something I can just kick back & play...", Morrowind is mostly that kind of game. I found the initial learning curve easy.
A member here on the PC board said it best about rpgs, "momentum is key"...this applies to Morrowind IMO.
I didnt dedicate a fair enough time to experience the pay off of truley developing my chracter [played aprox 40 hrs, it was all new to me].
I stuck to main quest, was amazed by size of map.
After reading reviews/feedback on Morrowind, Im encouraged to return to this RPG soon.

Another grand feature of Morrowind and the 2 expansions is the hundreds of hours of gameplay you can enjoy with it. Unlike many short but sweet games Morrowind is a world that you get to enjoy at your own pace. Some dislike the pace as SBS stated and for sure it is no action/rpg like Dungeon Siege or Diablo 2 but I find it much more satisfying. When you complete the quests you feel you have actually acomplished something. If you find it not to your liking many here enjoyed Divine Divinity which I think has more meat to it than Diablo 2 although more an action rpg. I also agree that Anachronox is overlooked and really can be a lot of fun and does have a console feel to it that works well.

Also check out the reviews of Gothic and Gothic 2. It does have a strange control setup that takes getting used to but I am the few that like it fine. It is all voice acted so you have very little reading which is nice.

For someone who's last RPG was "FFVII", Morrowind might be alittle overwhelming. I know it blew me away from the beginning, but after about 5 hours of running around, i lost interest. I've tried to pick it up a few times, but i just couldn't get into the story! I think i'm just a bad RPGer, cause i remember not being able to do anything in the game correctly and found it really really difficult.

I was the same way actually. The first time I played MW, I couldn't stand the bloody game... It never really struck me as being brilliant until about 20 hours into it.

Morrowind is pretty damn fun, I especially love the modular approach the developers took in creating the game. They left it in the hands of the fans to create virtually whatever they want. I haven't looked into recent mods (there must be thousands by now) but I downloaded a variety of stuff from new character model graphics, weapons, locations, storylines, quests etc.

Thanks guys, i'll look for all three games today(Anachronox, Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights).

You've said this before, but could you explain why? What turned you off at first? I thought Morrowind was better than crack from the first moment. :)

Another less-known title that I found to be quiet enjoyable was Arx Fatalis. A lot like Morrowind but less open ended, cool game.

For me (i know your asking SBS), it was the sheer gigantic size of the game that turned me off. I quickly became lost in the huge world, and didn't know what to do. I spent hours and hours exploring the land, but didn't feel that i had direction in the game. I plan on giving it another shot during christmas break.

Trying to hit something originally with a weapon, and not getting a report on whether I hit or miss was disconcerting. After missing about 90% of the time, I seriously though the game was buggy. As well, alot of the skills at first level never worked, unless you where proficient in them. Also, I was playing the pre-patched version, so no enemy health metre was evident, and I thought that the character models where stilted and "fake" looking.

As I delved further into the game though, I began to understand the development concept behind the game, and began to appreciate the actual size of the game... It becomes more and more impressive... I'm just now finally approaching Dagoth Ur and the final encounter... Though I don't want any spoilers, I suspect if I am able, I will spare Dagoth Ur's life... Vivec is probably the one I will smoke if I get the option.

I am not a fan of RPGs, but here are some others you can try...

Bauldur's Gate 1 & 2 + expansions, Planescape: Torment, Gothic 1 & 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Icewind Dale 1& 2, and Soulbringer

Ahh, okay gotcha. Yeah some of those were annoyances but they were addressed in a patch (and actually, the enemy health meter was offered in a mod even before the patch came out).

I thought you'd have hated it for being too open-ended. "I was lost, didn't know what to do!" I'd have b**ch-slapped you if you'd said that. :)
