Something curious: I've been running my monitor resolution in 800x600 32 bit, decided to change it to 1024x768 32bit [to accomodate RGs DE2 pics].
Display is, & has been fine in either res. Whats curious is that after resetting res from1024x768 back to 800x600, my monitor has faint flickering, seen only from my peripheral view. If I look straight on to monitor, its fine. I suspect refresh rate setting...... Im going to play w/my refresh rate....how do I determine the optimum refresh rate for my system?

Other thoughts?

UPDATE: It turned out to be refresh rate, I was running @ 60hz & changed it to 75 hz.

"Q":
[1] Im aware that pushing the refresh rate may be harmful...how far can I safely go, [my manual says default display refresh is 100hz]

[2] Is it the "norm" for refresh rates to change as a result of changing monitor resolution?

SYSTEM SPECS: P4 2.66, XP os, G4 128mb 4200 ti, CRT monitor.
Thanks!

Your monitor & video card, and NOT your system defines the max refresh rate.
Depending on the brand and specs.
Go to Control panel,find Display ,then Settings,then Advanced,then Monitor,make sure you see under Monitor type the kind of monitor you have(sometimes it indicates "generic..." or the brand or whatever,below in the Monitor settings there is a window that indicates the screen refresh rate ,also check the button that says Hide modes that this monitor can not display.
Once you click on the screen refresh rate arrow you'll see the refresh rates that your monitor can SAFELY support.Go to the highest.
That's it, no flickering no headaches.

You can go there and d/load the latest drivers and a NVIDIA tweak proggie:
