View Full Version : What's the Rarest PC Game?

I'd like to know what the rarest PC game is to own. I'm referring only to hard, retail copies of games (abandonware oe anything else doesn't count).

If I had to guess, Star Wars Jeopardy would have to be the most impossible to find a retail copy to. It has eluded me for years.

Any other suggestions?

It's available on Ebay from time to time but it took me quite a while to get a copy of Alpha Centari Crossfire expansion.

how about soulbringer? lol. i've got a mint copy ready for the highest bidder. actually, eb wouldn't take this one the other day for trade in. they also wouldn't take nascar three or serious sam 1. the strange thing was that the guy waiting on me claimed ss1 was an extremely rare find and he was willing to personally buy it off me for more than i thought i would get. i'm hoping that he is the naive one here. besides, ss2 is way better, what with the sniper rifle, flame thrower and all....
i don't think i've been gaming long enough to name anything really rare though. does dark castle for the original macintosh count? or captain magneto?

You can get Serious Sam bundled with Serious Sam 2, so I don't know how it can be rare.

System Shock 1 is harder to locate than Serious Sam 1.

Crossfire is easy to locate... just pricey. I got the AC Planetary Pack with the original and expansion on 1 CD. That's more rare than Crossfire by itself, but the planetary pack is easier to find than a retail copy of Star Wars Jeopardy.

Any others?

Another rare one would be...

Populous III: Undiscovered Worlds *Expansion*

If anyone finds a copy for sale, let me know. :P

You can still find SS1 (system shock).

Yes, but the problem is, can you get it to run?

My mistake you can only get the second one for free.

I've heard so many people who couldn't get it to run right. It would crash, or there would be no sound, or some other problem. Some get it to work with some kludgy fix or other. But I've never even seen the game myself.

I didn't say System Shock 1 was too hard to find. It's harder to come by than Serious Sam 1.

Just load Win95 or Win98 and it should run ok in Windows or MS-DOS mode.

What's hard with loading Win9x? As long as you have a copy and a bootdisk to use fdisk, you're fine. Dual boot with your favorite OS like Win2000 or WinXP and you're good to go. Or you can use VMWare to load Win9x as a virtual OS. VMWare is rather pricey though.
