i finished this game the other day. did anybody else find it kinda boring? the graphix are very nice but the gameplay is average. i guess i am not too fond of shooting monsters with lasers and other space weapons. bullets and humans for me. is there a SOF3 in the works?

My nephew was just asking me about Unreal: Awakening tonight.
I told him it was likely more of the same as original was...would you say thats accurate?

Re: SOF3, its all rumors now, majority of which seem to indicate its not likely due to poor SOF2 sales, buts thats the rumor mill. Time will tell.

No it is nothing like the original.
No spoilers here.
First of all you'll need a hefty system to run it.
Second it is VERY short.
But it is a remarkable game graphics wise.
It is considerably slower in pacing than UT2k3,featuring different weapons and characters, the Skaarj make a reappearence but there are other aliens as well.
This time around you are a space marine recovering artifacts.
You have a base in a kind of starship, and there are some human NPCs providing dialogue and plot advancement(your erm, assistant is very sexy too).
There is no interaction in the starship's elements (you do not fly it),and you travel/fight alone. The level design is varied, vey big,and well thought out.

The designers left out a lot of promised stuff(no grappling hooks,or weapons stations or multiplayer [there is some talk of multiplayer add-on lately.but I don't know if it's working yet].
Still it is a stunning game if you have a P4 with a hefty card.

The first part of the game is very good, and pretty scary, when the action gets hot. There are some simple puzzles, and more strategic approach is required since the various aliens are overwhelmingly armed.

Around mid game it gets a bit routine for ONE single level, then it picks-up nicely again.

If you go thoroughly looking for stuff there are a couple of map glithches that get you stuck!
One such glitch(hole) not only is not fixed but it has the picture of one of the developers grinning(!!)

Still it is a very good spectacularly executed short game.

many are waiting the expansoin and the multiplayer.

Well....I have to express my interest in Awakening also. Though my nephews' PC wont run it, maybe mine will. I will have to check out what "hefty card" requirements are. [I have G4 128 4200 ti].

70 games later & I still find the original UT playable...maybe thats nostalgia, maybe immaturity, but definately fun!

Ok, no space monsters/weapons pk13, FPS of the human kind w/bullets only: Project I.G.I, 1 or 2 . If you likes SOF, you will like these. Be warned, the first I.G.I. has no in game saves, but is worth picking up. The second I.G.I. [Covert Strike] has limited in game saves.
[I pefer the original, desite no save options, over the sequel.]

I used to play Unreal 2 with a 4400 at 1200x1600 all maxed, so you'll do fine with the 4200 also.

IGI 2 is a great game,I'm still playing it,it takes a long time to finish since you gotta plan your next move carefully.

I wrote a less than flattering review of Project IGI. Keep in mind this game came out in 2000. It isn't new. Its lack of save-game feature is maddening, it's repeitive use of textures and buildings is boring.

The sequel is a little more impressive, but not much. I played the demo and wasn't floored, so I never did buy the game. But at least it has a savegame feature.

BTW, I think I won a free game for that review. :) Can't remember for sure, it was almost 3 years ago, but something tells me I did.

Project I.G.I [stands for "Im Going In"], & its sequel: Covert Strike.
I enjoyed both:

Should be able to pick them up bundled soon, or at least cheap individually.

Besides in game save on easier difficulties [none on hard], Covert Strike included new "Peeking" movment & thermal imaging device, useful for picking up enemys heat signature through walls.

I liked that they kept Russian arms dealer Priobi in the story.

Are you playing on "HARD", w/o any save option?

No,
I can't stand the many re-reloads.
:)
IGI 2 is for looong snowy winters like the one we'll be having in NY.Each level takes me hours to finsh.
I'm savoring it, while I "expedite" the shorter less challenging games faster.
Priboi is my all time favorite, actually he reminds me of some clients of mine...........................

Wait till the price drops, i beat the game is 7 hours, it's just too short to warrant the $50 price tag.
