I just wanted to know if others have to wait nearly 5 minutes for the game to start up? It runs this virtual disk file system check everytime and I sit and wait....wait...wait for the game to finally start up. Is this normal? Is there a way to shut down this check each time? I started here and haven't looked at anything yet but so far I am digging the game.

I go through that process as well, but after the first time successfully booting the game up, the next time it checks the virtual drive check, it's as fast as greased lightening. If I crash, it takes a bit longer the next time though. I have 384 DDR RAM, with a 1.5 Ghz. CPU, and 9000 Radeon. Your loadup speeds will vary depending on your system. Slower obviously if you have less RAM, especially.

Thanks SBS,
Yeah it is faster now but still along initial load but bearable. My pc's age is showing. I have enough memory but it is slow compared to what most of you are using now and this sub gig processor is finally showing its age but the game runs fairly well. I did have to turn down the view distance though to keep things moving ok. I have to say I am happy with the little I have played so far.

This is a known issue. Take a look at the Gothic 2 Troubleshooting FAQ (http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=29393) over at the rpg.dot forums. You need to either delete (move) or replace a particular file:

"The first start takes minutes...
... and the task manager says Gothic II doesnīt respond.
-->Wait!
The first start after a crash takes minutes...
... and the task manager says Gothic II doesnīt respond.
-->Wait!
Every start takes minutes...
... and the task manager says Gothic II doesnīt respond. This is a bug. Gothic 2 builds an index of more than 25.000 files in the two cases mentioned above. If this happens every time you should replace [GOTHIC2]\System\Vdfs32e.exe with this updated version. If the problem isnīt solved move the file to another location."
