Finally,a sound decision by Dell!
And good for American jobs too!!
No more gibberish answers from tech support, located in India!!
read all about it here:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/biztec...s.ap/index.html

Somehow the link is broken but here is the content of the article:

Dell giant PC maker, lately got inundated by complaints about it's poor customer support(the very thing that made Dell a success).

The complaints were focused on the customer's impossibility to communicate with these same tech support employees, due to "canned-type" responses that solved no "issues",and thick accents that made every communication an exercise in futility.
Dell announced that the company will bring it's tech support base back home,to the U.S.
This is good news for Dell's customers who seek tech support, and EXCELLENT news for some white collar job creation, that is sorely needed in the tech sector.

Good news indeed, but Im a little bit of a sceptic re: "bringing tech support base back home". The cynic in me says the "base" of tech support returned to US shores will consist of a handful of people bouncing tech request off satellites to India & back via software, lol.

All in all, it sounds optimistic, considering the near 3 million manufacturing jobs lost in last four years & the ever erroding of service based jobs in U.S. being "out sourced".

A undeniable plus for Dell in PC market for last 18 months has been their lead in offering best price on prebuilt systems. I purchased a new Gatway 6 months ago over Dell, despite the fact it cost $140 more than similar Dell unit. I didnt like Dells out sourcing activity.[old school; spend your $ where you make it, to hell w/world economy].

Yup, but as I indicated @ the time of my post [11/25], I made my decison six months prior....just shows how quickly the market can change....hopefully T3KTON's link above will establish a trend for domestic suppliers of PC's to keep their tech support local, as opposed to taking it off shore.
