View Full Version : ESPN Basketball Disc Errors?

My family just bought ESPN basketball for the XBOX. I don't play it that much, but I do play the street ball because it's simple and easy to paly. Anyway, some funky things are happening. When you play exhibition, the commentary will cut in and out, and the last few times it's came up with this message "Disc is damaged or dirty. Restart your XBOX" Well, we all checked the disc, it doesn't seem to be dirty or scratched at all, it's very new. NO other game has done this, was wondering if it's happened to anyone?

Also, when we first got it, the person controlling the ball would get stuck in one place and the only way to move him again was by passing the ball.

So the issues are...
#1 Commentary cuts in and out
#2 Players get stuck on the court when dribbling and can't move
#3 Disc error messages (Dirty or Damaged Disc)

See, this is why I stick with Gamecube...HA! Thanks for any help anyone can give us.

Toodles.

With some of the older Xboxes (and some of the newer ones), they have Thompson disk drives installed, which are notorious for the occassional flake-out, especially on some of the newer, dual-layered disks. that could be the problem also. As much as I hate to mention another site, try going to gamefaqs and check the boards there. If there are any known technical issues with the game, somebody will have brought them up.

If you want to know if you have a Thompson disk drive, eject the tray without a disk and look to see if the opening in the disk tray looks like a big "U". If it does, that's a Thompson. I'll try to find that link again for identifying the Xbox disk drives....

If you have a Thompson, and your Xbox is under warranty, I'd recommend exchanging it for a new one with a samsung drive. I've compared the two head-to-head and there is a difference. Games run much smoother, and load much faster (Thompson drive is an 8x DVD-ROM, while the Samsung is a 16x).
