Anybody else have this problem? Sometimes --- fairly often --- the character who is speaking has his voice go so low you can hardly hear it, then it comes back to normal.
I have no other issues with audio as far as I know.

If you can, turn off the 3D hardware audio setting and see if that helps.

Nope, that didn't work and there are no patches available for the game. I am going to try reinstalling the game, but I'm not feeling all that confident.Thanks.

Well, I fixed it, sort of. I was running 256 of ram, the minumum. I added another 512 and THAT problem went away. But now I have a different problem. The audio is fine but now the game crashed to a blue screen that almost immediately reboots the computer on its own. 2x.
The game had never crashed before. In the :02 that I could see the screen I read the words "internet Protocol". After the reboot a window came up that said I had "serious damage" to something, but that windows had fixed the problem. That message came up both crashes.
This computer is not hooked up to the net. BTW, I had similar audio problems with Call of Duty and they are now gone, but that game is not crashing.
Thoughts?

That answers my question. I found it for twenty bucks and was thinking about picking it up, but as a rule I don't pick up games until they've at least been through a first patch. Saves a lot of grief.
Oh, your other problem. I really have trouble believing increasing RAM fixed a problem with fluctuating sound volume, but stranger things have happened. I'm more inclined to think the sound issue is a problem the game is having with your sound card or sound card drivers. Since the game hasn't been patched, that could also explain some things. As for adding RAM making your game crash, again, I have a hard time with that one. Does it crash all the time, or has it just happened once or twice. Does it crash when running anything else? If not, it's hard to fault the RAM. How often did you run the game before you added more RAM? Is it possible you just got lucky and the game didn't crash the first few times you played it, then just happened to start crashing after you added the RAM? Again, I think the fact that this game hasn't been patched yet is a big part of the problem.

I dunno, Aku. I played the game from start to finish and only had one CTD the entire game. I found the game to be pretty stable actually, with no weird gameplay bugs or even many quest problems.
But I actually think Papa Deuce would do better to hit up the official Gothic 2 forums to see if anyone else has experienced these problems. I don't think anyone around here thats played the game had many problems with it.
But just in case...see if more recent drivers have come out for your soundcard recently.

1. I do have the most recent audio drivers. Running Soundbalster Live Value .
2. I ran Gothic 2 about 10x. I always had the sound problems. They are now gone completely but the game crashed both times I played it since the RAM upgrade.
3. Now it has just crashed playing Call of Duty, which it never had before, but I only played 3x before adding RAM. And the sound problems are gone here, too.
4. My system only crashed 1x in 14 months prior to this. I'm running XP.
Strange how the audio problems have disappeared is all I can say.
What kind of RAM did you buy. Is is brand name, or some generic memory sticks? Maybe you really do have a bad memory stick in there.

Well, it is Samsung, the same brand that came with the computer. Same exact stuff except my 1st RAM was 256 and this is 512.

it sounds to me like you have some sort of virus, maybe u should run a virus scan on the computer, or perhaps defrag might help you out or5 at least help your computer run better

Can't be a virus as the computer has never been hooked up to the internet and has no programs on it other than a few games. I took out the 256 RAM stick and now all is fine. I moved the 512 stick into the first slot. Maybe I will add the 256 back, trying to put it in the 2nd or 3rd slot so that I still keep 768 RAM.
But Like I said, all is fine now, so it must have been some type of RAM problem.
