If your looking for a popular FPS, then i would say Battlefield 1942.

If your looking for an non-paying RPG experience, go with Never Winter Nights.

I would suggest the same as Fred, but including Ghost Recon.

Shuddup, you NWN slut! ;) LOL I WOULD have posted it except this messed em up a tad...

squads etc

I assumed Squads=Military, my mind blanked out etc. :) However, the servers running mods are REALLY slow these days. One of the most active (CoA), I've been banned from. Oh well, once I get HotU, it shan"t be a problem. :)

I used to be a NWN slut, but not any more... lol

So, i've been meaning to ask you, why did you get banned from CoA??? That was like the only good server i found back in the day.

Get this... I abused the Voiceset too much... I played this guy that sounds like the main antagonist in Baldur's Gate (forgot his name again), with this real cool "cross me and I'll **** you up" voice. Well, I guess the guy I said a few words to (didn't say much of course- since the voicesets are pretty limited), was a longtime player (maybe a guard) because next thing I knew, I was thrown in jail, and left to just sit- so I got in a big debate with the guard and DM saying it was unfair for me to be there, and I wanted an explanation of why I was there. This debate turned into a shouting match between the DM and I... I sealed my fate there, I know this, but to turf people for such silly things... I dunno... They even went to far as to doctor a couple screenshots on the forum boards when I went there to vent. I couldn't really believe someone would go to that length, but when they finally banned me from the site, they even went through and changed all my posts as well. I never say this, but I think Moya may have seen the changes... It's to bad you've dropped out of the scene... look what NWN:HotU will be adding to the game...

Yeah, I saw the changes. I never saw the originals of course, but it struck me as an utterly pointless and childish thing to do. Doing that just made them look like more of an ass.

What really got me was the Screenie they took of the Conversation. I have no clue how they did it (maybe created a player that looked like me) but talk about alot of work for something so trivial. Of course I was being pretty persuasive with some, and defending myself against the others until that hit the boards. I was utterly speechless.

Damn, i didn't know the CoA DM's were like that. Hell, i think i only saw like 1 in my whole time playing there!

I was kinda wondering the same thing....

Would like a good PC game i can play online, but where teamwork is an important part of the game.

Only problems is my machine specs.

Will the games you all have already listed listed run on:

1000mhz P3
255mb RAM
64mb Voodoo5 5500 AGP video card

And if they wont..... anyone know some slightly older games that fit the description, but will run on my specs?

Thanks in advance for any advice. :)

Man... htf can you find somthing on your computer and then go blank just a few hours later trying to find it again?

Anyways... I am pretty sure those are my specs. ;)

Your system specs for NWN are fine. It's the Graphic Card I'm not too sure about.

You may be better off hitting the Bioware boards to be certain.

NWN requires teamwork first and foremost.

Ghost Recon will run fine as well, but I'm not too sure of BF1942. That game chugs on my comp (1.5 Ghz, 64 DDR Radeon 9000 pro, 384 DDR RAM).

Ghost Recon will run fine as well...

That's great news.

I almost bought the Ghost Recon Gold Pack last night at Wally's World, even before reading your post.

Gonna have to grab a copy when I can.

Well, just to be sure, you should snag a copy of the demo. I ran GR on
a GF2 MX card (32 MB) flawlessy. Your RAM may hold you back a bit,
but nothing that will make it unplayable. Again though get the demo if WW doesn't have a good return policy.

DL'ed a copy of GR demo now that I have a broadband connection.

Runs ok, but i think you are right and i need more RAM.

Gonna try to sup up to 500 MB asap.

Had some trouble running it at first, but DL'ed a new driver for my Voodoo card and that seemed to help.

Still a newb and getting my butt smoked! ;)

My handle is jhakien if any of you still play the demo rooms online.

Haven't really played PC games alot so tweaking my box is stil new to me....

Hopefully i can get it running smooth enough, I can go out and buy the retail version.

Also.. any of you play Wolfenstien ET?

Free game... I. wonder how fun it is.

Also sorry if my replies are slow... as somone mentioned earlier about us generation X kids, I have a problem with cognitive disipline at times. ;)

Plus moved into a new place right before Thanksgiving.. has been hetic here.

I play WWII Online and even with its issues I think it is the best Military
Game online. It is all about squads and you play againist other people(squads).
There where a lot of issues when it first came out, but most of these have been addressed. The graphics are not up to standards of today, but this is getting replaced over the next year. It is the only game that keeps me coming back.

Wow! People still play that game? I had no idea that it was still even in existance. I have a buddy who played that once.
He said it was released too soon, and wasn't prepared upon release very well. I personally think that no matter HOW much they tweaked it-
it would be hard competing against BF1942's free action.

Very good point.....

Also, compared to BF1942, the graphics looks like moldy cheese....

Actually the game is on a rebound. They have teamed up with Matrix Games for development. There are not as many players as most of the MMORG out there. Around 15,000 players worldwide. And as I said the graphics are not up to most other standards - but in terms of game play for military sim there is nothing to compare in my opinion.

First the area of play is over one million square kilometers of Northern Europe. Just to compare it to other games check out the map overlays at www.freewebs.com/nrakjar/maps.html. The map is continually being expanded in detail. Eventually there will be a North Africa and Italy. Someday in the distance future there will be Russia.

It is possible to play German, French, or British and as Armour, Infantry, Air, or naval. You can have different careers in different areas at the same time.

Squad play is what this game is truly about. My Squad is the 116th Windhund and we are about 70 players from around the world. The other day we were in operations with the 1st Army group and where involved in an attack that amounted to maybe 700 hundred axis and at least that many allied players. This is the game that pits squads against squads.. i.e. people against people.

If you want eye candy and first person shooters of the duke nukem genre then this is not the game. If you want squad play this is the best thing out there. In fact I would not even of responded to the thread if it hadn't mentioned squad play.
