Xbox Live on fire
Microsoft announces that its Xbox Live online gaming service enjoyed its busiest weekend ever earlier this month.
Microsoft has today announced that last weekend was the busiest ever for its Xbox Live online gaming service. On Sunday, November 2, no fewer than 83,652 players spent a total of 262,268 hours online. The most popular Xbox Live game on Sunday was the recently released Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3, which recorded a total of 24,478 players for the day and at one point accounted for 6,731 players simultaneously.

And for Counter-Strike Fans Next week PC gamers wont be the only ones that'll be playing Counter Strike Online.
Counter-Strike goes gold
Eagerly awaited console version of popular PC multiplayer shooter set to ship on November 18. Could add to record-breaking Xbox Live numbers.
Xbox gamers can now plan to try on the boots, lift the guns, and take aim in Counter-Strike, as one of the most popular multiplayer titles from the PC camp is confirmed for a November 18 release date.
The Xbox Live-enabled title's release should please Xbox Live staffers as well. In related news, Microsoft reported high usage numbers for the online game service. In a short e-mail burst to the industry today, a Microsoft spokesperson said that on Sunday, November 2, the online gaming service set new usage records. "On that day, 83,652 unique users spent 262,268 hours on the service." GameSpot has additional coverage of Xbox Live usage numbers in a related news story.
The release of the Xbox Live-enabled Counter-Strike could add to those numbers.

Dont be shy just jump right in here.
(PS2 fanboys invitation)
One guy from Gamespy prefers ps2 online, who cares. IGN had a roundtable, 16 editors in all, xbox live smoked ps2 online, 12 to 4. Take away EA from the ps2, and ps2 online is truly unremarkable, save for a few offerings.
PS2 online can be very crude. A number of games force you to reset your machine if you want to move from online back to single player. Ughh. ATVOffroad Fury 2 is a joke with its online component. When I got my ps2 online bundle, the experience scarred me emotionally and I haven't tried it since. No voice, barely any players, max of 4 racers, all sorts of whack things happening on screen due to other players crappy, read 56k modem connections, and having to reset the machine when I wanted to go back to single player, if my ps2 hadn't frozen already upon exiting the online game. No wonder it's free. If I get the headset, I might try going back online, but no voice just plain sucks and playing with 56kers is brutal.

MS has been doing online gaming for many, many years. Its no surprise that Xbox live is so much better than PS2 online.Nothing takes the place of experience.I didnt know you had to go through this much crap with the PS2 online.Thats insane in the membrane, insane in the brain.

Never heard of Everquest? Experience had really nothing to do with it. Sony took a conservative approach since online gaming isn't exactly a cash cow, and MS threw in everything but the kitchen sink because they got into the console war a day late, and couldn't afford to come any less, although, they certainly aren't a dollar short.

Everquest for PS2 is a joke, and a BAD joke at that. From what I heard EQ PS2 has been a failure as far as sales go as well. PSO is the best online RPG offered on consoles right now. TFLO will destroy everqueer.

No broadband, so unfortunately I can't really argue due to lack of online game play experience.
However, I did notice Medal of Honor: Rising Sun's online content is exclusive to the PS2.
I will admit that the online portion does not sound all that overwhelming, but it's the lil bit of ammo I can manage to muster to throw into the defense of PS2 Online.
It's an effort anyways. ;)

dude it,s like this...MoH Rising Sun is a steaming pile of feces as was Frontline. If you'd rather play that crap online over the likes of Return to Castle Wolfenstien, Unreal Championship, Rainbow Six 3...etc....etc...

6,700 people online at the same time? Is that all?
How about 20,000 people online at once for Socom 2 on the PS2?
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=53716
Arguing about the quality of service might be fun, but as to what is more popular and more on fire, the PS2 is most definitely ahead.

The number of people online doesn't mean a thing, much the same way that sales don't count. You see, while there might be 20,000 people online at once playing a game of Socom 2 the problem with that is that..well..they all suck. Now I'm not saying that they're bad at the game, far from it, what I'm saying is that they suck as PEOPLE. I mean COMEON, anyone worth the amount welfare pays out for em a month won't be playing a stupid PS2 online game with jaggies..they'll be hitting up Live and dating chicks, dood!
So since those 6,700 people playing live pay more per month and are generally more important than the 20,000 people playing Socom then you could say that they count for 3 people. That means that Microsoft is in the lead with 20,100 people playing..that's 100 more people playing in comparison the PS2 stupids. You do understand basic math, right Twelve? Hell, why am I even asking? You probably don't since you play the PS2.
Not only that but you have to take cost into account. Live costs 50 clams a year whereas you just pay for the broadband adapter for the Jackass2. So Sony is actually LOSING money every month whereas Microsoft is scoring BILLIONS off the revinue earned from its monthly fee. That gives you a more quality experience in comparison, so really...does the number even count towards which one is winning the system war? I don't think so. Sales, users, rental charts, nothing counts..it's about the QUALITY. That's why the Gamecube is winning the system wars...even though it's just sold 5 consoles around the world it has Maia...Maya....Maeamo...Sieg...Sigu....that jap guy that made Zelda and Mario onboard. And he is like a literal GOD to me.

So whats online for the PS2 to challenge what MS is bringing to the table for Xbox live?
I am assuming this question. Tony Hawk 3,4 and UG, SSX3, GT4, FFXI, Madden, SOCOM 2, RE outbreak, Tiger Woods PGA, Ghost Recon, NBA live, Syphon Filter, XIII, and alot more.
Alot of good titles and, I am not disagreeing that LIVE is a better service than PS2's. The thing is there are more people playing SOCOM2 than people playing R6. I personally dont see playing online console games that appealing, but games like Halo2 and GT4 could change things.

Yes the PS2 has a few online games to talk about. But then you add the Xbox's line up:NFL2K4,NBA2K4,NFL Fever 2004,MechAssault,Capcom vs.SNK2,(the only online fighting game)Top Spin,(tennis game);etc. Then upcoming games like Counter Strike,Urnreal II,DOOM III,Half Life 2,Halo 2,True Fantasy Online,Tenchu:Online,DOA online and a lot more to come as well. You compare both line ups and I see the PS2's falling a tad short.
Plus the Sony HDD wont be here till March. Most of those online games in the future for the PS2 will require the usage of a hard drive just to play the games. To me that kind of sucks.

Most games are going to need the hard drive to play online? Hmm...I'm only aware of FFXI needing it. Last time I checked, one game didn't qualify as "most."
Seeing as so much of your information on PS2 online is wrong, no wonder you dislike it so much. The people who know the real deal seem to give it a lot more credit.

The bottom line is, I think Dreamcast had the best plan...modem out the box, KB and MOUSE...,web browsing, what could be better?
I think if not for the huge variety of games on LIVE it wouldn't be a good deal but the fact of the matter is there is a larger variety of competitive games on Xbox LIVE than PS2. FPS? Xbox OWNS PS2 here, PS2 has 3 online FPS: Tribes, Warhammer40K(snicker), and the new MoH(SLOWCOM IS 3rd person), Xbox has at least a dozen now and they are ALL higher quality than any of the PS2 offerings. Racing, Xbox owns PS2 there as well...

If you would've done your homework you would already know this already.Besides I never claim to know everything there is to know about PS2 online.I just know that when you compare both online games for the PS2 and the Xbox the only thing on the PS2 that makes noise is SOCOM II and Madden. The rest cant hold a candle to the games on Xbox live.Anytime you would like to compare those games jump right in.

Its official.
It is impossible to cheat right now because of DNAS. WHen you log on you have to log onto DNAS and it detects gameshark, action replay, code breaker, all those devices.
When you try to log on with any cheats or anything it shuts you down and wont let you play online for 24 hours.

Go and find me some manual codes for Socom 2 that don't require cheat devices and even then, you have to prove to me that those codes work online.

obviously, you guys don't know much about Socom 2 the day it came out there were at a few times over 70,000 people were logged on. Since then it has never droped below 10,000 except when they are doing matnece on the server. And it is no longer a cheating game there have been very few cheaters less than 100 and half of them have been banned....Gameshark no longer works......And there are fewer than10 gliches that have been found and then are all minor.
