It looks like the company that brought us Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic is in Chapter 11. Stock that once went for $40 can now be had for about $.50. The Mighty have fallen.

3DOs financial woes are a little surprising when you consider the continued success of software sales since year 2000. The software industry on a whole has seen annually, double digit prosperity for four years now, but not 3DO.
[I cant help but wonder if 3DOs con$ole manufacturing laid the ground work for their finacial implosion].

Well actually 3DO was not a game developer per se. M&M and Heroes was developed by New World Computing which went away shortly after M&M 9 released. My opinion and what I stated in my review of M&M 9 came prophetically true--that its release would be the end of the road for 3DO.

The problem is that the Lithtech engine wasn't enough. 3D wasn't enough. The game was a mish-mash of frustrating and feeble game play that just wasn't all the much fun for long time M&M fans who loved the series because of its quaint and simple feeling, a great story, fun environments and even fun skills. With that the series ran out of gas and 3DO has not signed up a rookie winner in a long, long time.

It didn't help that they released Legends of Might and Magic, a medievel Quake, an obvious rip off on the series.

It's too bad but let's not despair. I believe they'll be selling the franchise of M&M if they haven't already (I'm almost positive they have but I can't remember the buyer).

Lastly, I might be wrong but as I remember it 3DO was in the vid chip market as well but they could never seem to keep up with the 3DLabs and Nvidias of the world. A ton of money bled out from the company as I recall.

The video card company was 3dfx and not 3DO. I lost lots of money when 3dfx went belly-up, at least by my standards. It was a real shame, what was once the number one video card company ran into the ground by poor management.

Yeah, I still think the old Voodoo 5 5500 was a kick-ass card. Maybe it was outperformed framerate wise by those GeForce 2s, but in every other way I thought it was superior...wow remember the image quality on those old Voodoo cards? They were a cut above anything else around for a while.

Right now it looks like ATI is the "real" video card company, even though Nvidia seems to have a larger share of the market. I've always liked Radeons.

Trust me, 3DO made a chip. It pre-dated both 3dfx and Nvidia. This was back in the IBM 286 days. That was part of 3DO's problem, they wanted to crack the hardware market and it cost them.

I'm not actually sure about M&M, but Heroes of M&M is probally going to be bought by UbiSoft. Here is the link to the PDF where is it stated that UbiSoft is the leading bidder for Heroes of M&M Asset (1.3 Million), it looks like.
