I have never played Chrono Trigger, and saw that it was pulling in high review scores. How good is this game? Also, is it pretty heavy on the random battles?

I recently joined the "Atlus Faithful" so I could get mailings about games, and they have posted an article about the new localization for DS of "Legacy of YS Books I & II"--never heard of it, never played it, and they are calling it an action RPG. Meaning? No random battles? Here's the article:

And finally, I just got Luminous Arc 2 in the mail from Amazon. I thought I'd canceled my order because Mochan and Aylmer--I think--thumbs downed the series pretty hard. I've had no real time to play it (just ran through the intro which was visually pretty with nice music, and the early scenes of the game are sorta weird in that sometimes there's voice, and sometimes just text, and it isn't really structured in any way that makes sense as to why or when a character will have recorded voice or not.)

BUT, the "Luminous Art" art book that comes with the game is cool. And a little bit twisted. There are numerous sketches for each character, as well as one color full page rendition of each character with a bio-blurb. I didn't look at the blurbs right away, and though they were something to do with character class. A, C, DD, D, etc. But then noticed that the male characters didn't have these stats and it dawned on me: THEY LIST THE BRA CUP SIZE OF EACH FEMALE CHARACTER. I just had to laugh my ass off. A character that looks all of 10 years old with DD hooters. That's just wrong.

I like the C cup characters myself :D

I'm in suspension on the Ds version of FF4, but it's a good JRPG, tho dated. And random battles out the azz. Lately, tho, alll of my gaming time has been taken up with Eternal Sonata on the PS3.

Eternal Sonata is really good? I tried the demo, but didn't get hooked the way I did by the SRPG Valkyria Chronicles (it's a genre I like a lot, and what they've done with it is really unique.)

I don't want to get too carried away. . .my current interest in the RPG genre might fade, and over-buying is a problem for me, getting stuff and then not getting around to playing it, and RPG's are almost always such time munchers.

I picked Chrono Trigger up the other day, even though I played it on the PS1. Back in the day (1995) this was the most cutting edge rpg there was. Does it hold up? Personally, not really, even though many reviews say different. It's still an awesome game tho. There's no random battles, one of the reasons it was considered cutting edge.

Ys is an action rpg so no random battles. Although, I have real problems with how the Japanese do their action rpgs especially with those 2D graphics. They usually amount to boring button mashing. The 2 exceptions being the Tales series and the Star Ocean series. But that said, I never played Ys because I usually avoid the Japanese action rpgs.

I take that back about the random battles. There are times, like when you enter a new area, that battles are unavoidable. But for most of the game you have the option to pick and choose your battles.

The Sonic RPG is probably the only RPG that has my interest, mainly because Bioware developed it. I doubt I'll ever play it, though.
