I've played Tricky and loved it but never bought it. Now that SSX3 is out it's sparked my interest in the series yet again but i haven't heard a whole lot of good about 3 aside from the graphics. Should i grab 3 or save the 30 bucks and opt for the oldie but goodie??

SSX3 is supposably quite a bit better than Tricky. Whether or not it's $30 better is up for debate.

The PS2 version of SSX3 can be played online. If you can/want to take advantage of this, you probably should go for SSX3, since the number of people you can play with online wanes as a game ages.

If you are getting the XBox version, or don't have a online-capable PS2, I'd say go with Tricky. It's not like SSX3 is going to drop off the face of the earth any time soon. Get Tricky, play through it, and when you're done, you may very well be able to get "3" for under $50 as well. :)

Shogun u bring to light a very valid point. I am planning on getting the X-Box version considering I wouldn't have a PS2 in my house if it contained a life saving serum and I had 20 minutes to live. Therefore the Live aspect is outta the question. I think I will get Tricky, play through it, and keep monitoring reviews/news about the newest member of the SSX fam. Anyone else w/ words of wisdom please feel free 2 share. Thanx

Are you familiar with metacritic.com? Basically it gathers multiple reviews of each game, and then creates an average score out of 100 based on all the scores from the reviews. Out of about 15 reviews, SSX 3 gets an average score of 93, which ranks it as one of the highest rating Xbox games on the site. Four of the collected reviews actually give it perfect 100's, and the reader reviews both give it 10/10.

So there's no shortage of extremely good wrap-ups for SSX 3. I'm thinking you can't go wrong with it.

The game has a lot more to offer than Tricky. At any point and time you can freeride to whatever destination you want on the mountain, or just search for collectibles and hidden challenges for cash to buy upgrades, gear, and unlockables. It's not set up in a wholly linear fashion like previous SSX titles.

The trick system is also superior. If you thought the uber tricks from Tricky were impressive, wait till you pull off your first Monster. The system hasn't changed all that much as far as filling the meeter, then spelling out words. Except this time around you pull ubers to spell UBER, then you start pulling off super ubers after uber has been spelled to spell SUPER, at which point you'll have unlimited boost the rest of the run. They've also introduced a combo system where you can constantly string tricks together in a combo (with the wonderful addition of the board press) making a HUGE bonus at the end of the string, or even at the end of the run. It's possible to string combos together down the entire mountain if you're focused enough.

SSX3 tops Tricky in several ways, but they're both titles worth having. Even with my love of 3, I'd still pick up Tricky first since it's cheap, and then pick up 3 later when the price drops on that as well as someone has already suggested.

Thanx to those of you that replied. I took the advice of the majority and bought Tricky. I love it but now that i re-read your posts I think I shoulda shelled out the few extra bucks and got 3. The limitation of essentially 2 play modes is a little restrictive but overall a great game that will get me through the droughts here and there.
