A lot of Zelda fans have been wondering if they would be able to get the special Zelda disk that will be coming with new Gamecubes after Nov 17. The disk includes the first and second Zelda games from the NES, as well as Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It also has a playable Windwaker demo. Since this is packed in with a new system, there was some concern fans who already own the system would be left out.
There are two ways, according to Nintendo's website, that you can get the "free" disk. The first is two get proof's of purchase for Mario Kart and 1080 snowboarding. The other is to subscribe to Nintendo power AFTER nove 17th (free Zelda game while supplies last.)
One other thing, Best Buy has a Demo DVD they give away in their stores, it has demos of new movies, music, dvd's and games on it. It also has a coupon booklet in it, and in there are $3 dollar off coupons for 1080 Snowboarding, Mario Kart, and Roue Squadron. If you're gonna buy these games anyway, might as well save a few bucks.

Hey, thanks for the info Gadfly! Can I assume that I will not get the "free" Zelda game if I'm already a subscriber to NP? Maybe I'll pick up 1080 Avalanche just to get it. Do you know which game is supposed to be better between SSX 3 and 1080? I can't find any reviews of 1080 yet.
P.S.
No Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past?

SSX Tricky is probably the game most people would prefer. If 1080 turns out as good as it looks, it will great. Did you like the first one? I like that it is more of a racer, great terrain, and of course, I'm looking fwd to avalanches. I think there are other titles that count towards getting the "free" zelda bundle. Check Nintendo's site. Seems like Mario Party 5 was one also.
Who knows if you can get a free Zelda disk if you are a current subscriber. I've found Nintendo's customer service to be highly involved, especially if you let 'em know what a fan you are. Just send them a note letting them know you are already a subscriber and that you own massive amounts of nintendo games. Who knows, it might work. As a company, they're pretty cool about giving out cool stuff to Nintendo Power subscribers. Last year they sent out a CD with the Tokyo Orchestra performance of classic Nintendo themes. It's a great CD. . .and it wasn't like it was part of a special "sign up" deal. . . they just sent it out to all subscribers just to be cool, I guess. Quite the cool little collector's item.
"A Link to the Past" would have been cool to have, but it is a big revenue generator on the GBA right now, so it makes sense to leave it off a free disk.

How about Ebay guys???? Thats how I got Master Quest. I didn't preorder Wind Waker. All you have to do is wait about a month or so and tons of copies will turn up. There were quite a few copies of Master Quest on Ebay when I bought it and it cost me less then $20 (not including shipping) I find that to be the easiest way.

I'll have to agree with you Gadfly. When I renewed my subscription to Nintendo Power they were giving out "free" strategy guides. I didn't have either of the 2 games that went with the strategy guides so I didn't check either box on the subscription renewal card. Well they sent me a letter with a list of strategy books they had available hand typed by some girl that worked at Nintendo Power! I was impressed with the fact that she went above and beyond her job just to make me happy.
And I also got the Super Smash Bros. Melee CD! I like track 3 (Zelda) and I think track 8 (greatest hits)!
I've played through Zelda: Link to the Past 2 times so I probably wouldn't play it anyway. I'd rather have the 2 NES games. BTW do you guys know what you get for "free" with the Mario Kart preorder? I'm not sure if I should go preorder MK:DD this week or not.

You paid that much for Masterquest? It was freaking FREE if you put down $5 bucks for a pre-order for windwaker. So, it was not free, but FIVE BUCKS. No one would force you to come in and buy Windwaker too. Just under $20 except shipping and handling?? For a copy of a freebie?
So anyway, what GC fan isn't going to buy a couple games this season including Mario Kart? Personally, I'm going to renew my expired NP subscription. It is a mediocre magazine, but it has lots of nice exclusive screenshots of upcoming games, codes, and cool freebies scattered throughout the year (Orchestral Music CD, Animal Crossing event Calendar). And it is less than $20--which is better than spendng $20 on ebay for the game alll by itself.
So: Ebay, nearly 20 bucks for a game that I can get for $19 NEW along with a 1yr magazine subscription; or for FREE with two games any Nintendo fan is going to buy anyway (1080, Mario Kart, MP5). . . .
Hard Choice.

blah.
I might get Mario Kart or 1080(on the off-chance it bests SSX3), but I'm not really up for plunking down $100 on two games I only kinda want, just to get this disk.
Same thing for the magazine subscription. I used to have a subscription to Nintendo Power back in the day...it's easily the worst gaming mag EVER. Ugh....I could write an essay on how crappy EVERY aspect of this magazine is. Basically, the disk would still cost me $20, because I place zero value on the subscription. In fact, I'd rather be able to flat-out buy the disk for $20, so I wouldn't have to fear being caught carrying a 'Nintendo Power' on its short voyage from my mailbox to my garbage can.
Hmm...maybe Nintendo will sell the disk at some point. If not, I'll try picking one up on ebay...assuming I can find one that isn't scalped to hell..

I actually saw a demo disc at Best Buy for 40 dollars!!! It was a demo disc with like 4 or 5 games that are already out (one of them being Viewtiful Joe). I thought it was miss marked or something. But I checked all the other demo discs and they were all $40!!! Come on Nintendo that $hit should be free! I can't believe they're charging money for a promotional demo disc.
Now this Legend of Zelda compilation is a little different though because it has 4 games in their entirety. The demo on the other hand only gives you like the first level of each game, so you have to go actually buy the game if you like it.

LMAO :p . Yeah, OOT is my favorite game of all time so I didn't have too much of a problem shelling out a measly 20 bux, even if it was free. The same goes for the other Zelda disk when it comes out. I'd rather just pay the 20 bux then go through all that fanfare of subscribing to a crap magazine or buying 2 other games for a grand total of close to $100.
