Xbox pre-orders in second, at least from what looks to be a pretty limited and unscientific statistical sample provided in this news clip.

I didn't pre-order it, but I'm definitely going to be buying the GC version tomorrow!

Yes. Thank god Systems Wars is back. I don't care about weenies buying Link either (Link, weenie, ah the hot dog metaphor. . .that was pretty clever, Mass.)

As far as priorities, they haven't changed, and Nintnedo is still kicking xbox around the school yard.

This is off-topic, but I dig your avatar Gadfly. Eye in the pyramid...are you a fan of the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson?

Big fan of Wilson's work, especially the non-fiction books Quantum Psychology and Cosmic Trigger. I don't generally read science fiction, with the exceptions of RAW and Philip K. Dick.

My first encounter with the Illuminatti was the Steve Jackson game (the one in the late eighties, not his recent rip off of Magic the Gathering.) Then my superstitious girlfriend burned the game, fearing it was a tool of Satan (and some would agree with her, seeing how this little seed sparked my interest in everything from UFO's, Comparitive Religion, Aleister Crowley, The Golden Dawn, Perception Psychology, Scottish Rite Freemasonry, Kaballah, The Knights Templar, Charles Fort, and the path to achieve true slack/enlightenment via learning to drink beer and watch TV with absolute concentration.)

What are you even talking about? I think Cubites need something more to play alone. . .more epic single player adventures like Zelda, Metroid, or Eternal Darkness--the kind of game that is in abundance on PS2 but lacking on GC.

Everything else good is totally geared toward multi-player--Monkey Ball, SSBM, Mario PartyGolfKart, etc. In fact, there's little doubt that Gamecube offers the most fun multi-player experience out there. (I'm talking actual people in the same room multi-player, not killing remote strangers in an online FPS.)

It's hands down the only console with games that make it worth having four controllers for.

remote strangers are better than friends. You can only play 3 different people so many times.

Amen to this one... I bought my gamecube for the multiplayer purpose (the other thing is, I want to play Ikaruga... this game is damn real hard) so that I can play with my wife and my son... not to mention my friends... they love SSBM so much!

I'm hardly surprised GC has the most pre-orders as GC owners have been starved for a decent release since early Spring.

I've read 6 reviews on SCII last night and this morning and they all state that the Xbox version is the best (that's what I pre-ordered). Best graphics, sound and shortest load times. With the gameplay being identical on all three systems why not choose the best option?

The only other difference between the versions are the unique characters (Heihachi is the lamest choice, Link is cool, Spawn is ok, IMO) and the controllers (GC is worst, Xbox best, PS2 is fine).

I think PS2 is the best controller when it comes to Fighting games... I have played SC2 on Xbox (controller S)... damn, after playing for an hour i experienced cramps in my hands... I haven't experience this when I'm playing with my friends in a Dual Shock2 controller even for a 3 straight hrs (were playing Street Fighter EX2 Plus most of the time)

Awesome! I am a big fan of the Illuminatus Trilogy, the Shroedinger's Cat trilogy, the Cosmic Trigger series and RAW in general. I've also have read several Philip K. Dick books as well.

Lately I've been reading some H.P. Lovecraft - whom you might enjoy, given the titles you have listed. In fact, since I recall you like Eternal Darkness, you would and should read Lovecraft - as the entire ED plotline is very influenced by him. Right down to the cyclopean cities and ancient ones.

So you have a great taste in music, books and videogames - I'm quite impressed.

Eternal Darkness was a total Cthullu inspired game; but it also drew heavily on a lot of other stuff, from Poe to Sir James George Frazer. I dis on story based/movie style games in another post, but if you are going to make an interactive story type game, Eternal Darkness shows how it is done; literary, intelligent, dark, atmospheric, and compelling. Resident Evil doesn't even compare.

I agree. I bought Resident Evil recently (it was $15 on clearance) and while the graphics are incredible, I've found the story to be rather stunted. Not to mention the voice acting and the control scheme - which are horrible. ED is just superior in every way (except perhaps graphically) - which goes to show that substance always wins over graphics.

I recently finished "At the Mountains of Madness" by Lovecraft. It's pretty heavy reading, but very satisfying. I haven't read any of the Cthullu stories yet, but I'm going to in the future.

Since I know you dig good music, I'll let you on to my absolute favorite - Trilok Gurtu. Run out and buy everything you can that has Trilok. He's an Indian percussionist who blends traditional Indian music and instruments with western jazz. Look for the album "African Fantasies" if you can find it - check amazon or http://audiophileimports.com/

Even if the GC version of SC II does trounce the other versions in sales, it's still a lose-lose situation for the GC owners on this board.

If the game sells badly compared to the other versions, it's because GC-owners only buy "kiddie" Nintendo-licenced crap, and have no real taste in games.

If the game sells well, it's because GC-owners are starved for a AAA title.

"shrug"...I will find it amusing if the GC-version outsells the XBox. With PS2 I could understand (since 'uber-bargain' VF4-Evo might siphon off some sales) but XBox? Maybe they're too busy playing Tao Feng :P

Get bent!
The number of multi-player games available for the XBox absolutely blows away the number available for the GC! You must remember that every game that is XBL enabled is also set up for in-house multi-player.

And the XBox even goes one better as it's the only console with games that utilize the LAN hook-up! Having 4 of your peeps playing the same game, at the same time, in the same room is a blast. But it's even better when the screen is only divided into two; instead of four!
What?

Lan parties...

I've seen a bunch of those in the back room of many a hobby store...and MAN...they have to be the most depressing spectacles I've ever seen. :o

Oh, and while XBox might have a lot of multiplayer games, I'm not so sure about the quality of them....

What?</div>

Moot point. As there are several GC games coming out that utilize LAN system linking. MK-DD being the most notable.

Granted, it's a bit late, but better late then never.

LOL! Really? Nintendo is kicking something alright.First you say it then you do it.You get the hint.Plus on the positive note:Link looks to be a very well versed character for SC II.Hell even I wish Link was on the Xbox's version of SC II.But I am not about to buy the little console that cant do anything just to play with Link either.

Nintendo will most likely sell more GC's than Xbox's but in the real world more and more kids wants to be online playing with their friends. In the real world more and more teens would rather be playing upcoming games like Halo2,games like MGS3,games like Manhunt, and so many other "M" rated games.Resident Evil wasnt enough on the GC.Parents think that buying a GC for their kids will pretty much cut down on such things.LOL! And they are pretty much right.

Lately there isnt many "M" rated games on the GC.Plus whats all the hoopla about some of the games on the GC being too hard? Games like Ikaruga,Mega Man Network Tranmission, and the upcoming F-Zero has been pegged by Videogame critics as being "Too hard." Thats a load of garbage. The games of yesterday clearly was more challenging than alot of games are today will ever be.

Not saying there isnt some challenging games out there though.I mean isnt that what we buy these games for? A challenge? I thought so.

You wish Link was in the Xbox version, but won't buy the console that can't do anything? You sound conflicted. Actually, Soul Calibur II is the one game that Link looks like a complete fruit in. Spawn looks very cool; Link, put in a realist context, looks pretty fruity in his tights and boots.

The console that can't do anything. . . . except play games. If it drops to $99 this fall, are you saying you're too cheap to pick up a system with so many games that are destined to be classics? Critics say F-zero and Iakruga are too hard? Have you played them? They are every bit as hard as Contra: The Alien Wars on SNES. IMO, most of the early games that were hard were because the control and pixel size sucked. I mean, F-Zero, with gorgeous graphics and perfect control, has ZERO forgiveness: you do all three laps perfectly or you start the race over. If you fall off the track once, you are over. I have no idea why you are depriving yourself of games you obviously would love.
