It should be in stores right now. Reviews are on opposite ends of the stick. A 95% and a 67% for the PS3 version and 95%-60% for the 360 version. Well I can't not get it. It's Silent Hill! I'll just have to experience it myself in all its awesome, or sucky glory.

It looks like Best Buy has the best deal on the game. Buy SH and get the Silent Hill movie for free. Not sure if the movie is any good, though.
I keep seeing two developers for the game: Double Helix and The Collective. I'm familiar with the Collective from last gen with Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb and Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1. I have no idea who Double Helix is.
The fact that the game gives the character a fighting chance is the biggest reason why I want to play Silent Hill. I think that may be one of the reasons why a score is lower, because "a fighting chance" is different from the older Silent Hills, where I guess the option has always been "run or reload the game"? I played the first one for only a couple of minutes, and that's about it for my history with the series.

The movie is pretty decent. It doesn't have that video game to movie vibe. If you're not into the series you'll have a lot less issues with the movie.

Well a couple hours in, it is a lot more combat oriented. That doesn't make it RE or Gears or Uncharted or even Drakan, if you remember that one. The controls are typically fudgy for a 3rd person survival horror game and the heavy emphasis on atmosphere and exploration is still dominant. But the controls are more responsive and the moves more varied and you can dodge in 4 directions. Maybe even angles if you aim for them. Haven't tried that.
Overall I'm happy with it though. The graphics are good, the lighting incredible of course, just don't go comparing it to Uncharted. The sound is masterful. All around a solid SH entry so far, scored high if you're a fan and like that it hasn't changed, scored lower if you're expecting something other than the typical SH experience, or that the controls have changed. More later.

Cool. I ended up picking up the 360 version (with free movie). I won't have a chance to play it until either tonight or the weekend, though.

I got a chance to play some of the game. Not bad. I like the fact that you can control the camera, which makes the exploration more enjoyable. The combat feels basic, but at least Alex (main character) feels like he has a fighting chance, instead of the main characters for the survivor horror games of the past. Actually, I would put this one in the action/horror category. It's not as action packed as The Suffering, but at least you have some type of weapn so you can fight back. The game is pretty dark, too. Too dark. I need some light. Can't see a thing except for the creepy, busty nurses who keep trying to kill Alex.
After playing Alone in the Dark, I all but gave up hope on these type of games being any good. Fortunately, SH has given the sub-genre a chance. I may have to keep an eye out for Dead Space now, though there's little hope I'll want RE5. If I want to control a tank, I'll just play Mercs 2 instead.

I liked the movie, though a couple of the plot points were a little confusing to me. But it had a great creepy-disturbing feel to it.

Yeah I had to see it a second time before I felt like I actually understood what actually happened. Not saying I do, :p but some things did click the second time.

What started out very promising ended up rather lackluster. Fans and the not so fans are torn pretty much down the middle. But the average percentage on GR is about right where I think it should be. IGN's score was a little harsh but it's not far off.

I got bored with SH after a few hours. Maybe it's due to the non-sports games I usually play, which are usually action or action-rpg, where I'm usually doing something and not walking a long period w/o anything happening. I thought SH would be more along the action-horror type, and it is as far as the combat, but the lack of enemies and the time between doing nothing interesting gave me the feeling that it's still a survivor horror game.

So did I. I finished it only motivated by the fact that I had paid for it. The last... quarter of the game picks up, but most of the game was a chore to play. Well on to Dead Space on the 14th. Hopefully it turns out good but I'm gonna wait. I can't get all the games I want between now and Dec. So I may wait and see what's up with Fallout (28th), Resistance 2 in Nov. and Persona 4 in Dec.

I'm not sure if or when I'll play Dead Space, but I did download the free armor available in the PSN store, just in case. I think it will be available for only two weeks.
As far as Silent Hill, I'm going to trade it in towards something....

For some reason I was thinking Fable 2 and Little Big planet came out next week. But that's the following week. I think I'll rent Dead Space from Gamefly and let that tide me over till fable 2.

I wish it was next week, or now this week.
Dead Space looks to have a lot more action than Silent Hill. Also, the whole space thing is interesting. This could end up being one of my 3 Toys R Us games.

I think it's awesome. I've been playing silent hill since the very 1st one and althought it had it's up and downs, I think this one is pretty good, love it so far.
