Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums, and I need some help making a decision on a game purchase. As the thread title suggests, I'm looking to get a good hack-n-slash RPG, but I'm torn between Dungeons & Dragons Heroes and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance.

Basically what I'm looking for is fun gameplay involving satisfying combat and addictive levelling-up and shopping elements. I'm not too concerned about story depth or clever puzzles, I more or less just want a Diablo-style affair.

I've read reviews on each, and it's still hard to choose which one to get, so any suggestions would be helpful, especially from anyone who's played both games. Even if you've only played one of them, throw in your two cents as well.

Oh, and does BG:DA have a multiplayer co-op mode?

I can tell you that the games are fairly similar in nature. Baldur's Gate DA being the slightly deeper of the two. D&D Heroes coming in as a combination between BG Dark Alliance, and Gauntlet.

Both are fairly close to a Diablo-style game, I think all in all, BG edges out D&D, but only by a slight margin. I think the overall production values of BG are a bit better, and from a single-player aspect, it's the better game.

As for multiplayer, BG does allow co-op play, but only for two people, if you're looking for more than 2 players, D&D Heroes delivers.(up to 4). I've even gotten the wife to play these titles with me, and we're currently near the end of D&D Heroes (we think).

I'd pick up BG first, and if you decide that you like it, D&D Heroes is a good follow-up before BG Dark Alliance 2 hits early next year.

Welcome to the forum! Kinda forgot about that in my original response.

I'd have to grudgingly suggest Baldur's Gate DA. Both games are not very good. I rented BG DA, and got a few cheap thrills out of it, I rushed and bought D&D thinking it would be a great improvement. It is actually worse than BG:DA. The gameplay and progression couldn't be more simpler, a three year could be successful. Simple gameplay, in and of itself, is not really bad, but there is no depth here, the spells and their effects are weak to say the least. The monsters are not challenging nor impressive. The cut-scene's are nice, so if you are a cut-scene freak then you may like it.

I would suggest BG:DA over D&D only because it was slightly deeper and more closely akin to the D&D universe. D&D is a waste that you should rent, you can finish it very quickly, maybe 7 or 8 hours. However, I recommend skipping both of these titles man...don't say no one told you so.
