What games have you bought, either the last year or this current gen if you don't buy too many, that you either wished you didn't buy it (or traded for it) or was glad you did?

I four games right off the bat:

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom - Good character design, able to choose your character, hack and slash combat, but I wish I didn't buy it. The game sucked. No blocking (or any type of defensive moves), no jumping (I like jumping), and a not so great save system ruined what could have been a really good action-rpg game.

The Orange Box - I only wanted it for the two Half-Life 2 games, since I never played them. They were too boring for me. The other games, Team Fortress and Portal were of no interest to me.

Bioshock - Simply overhyped. Great story, great atmosphere became a run of the mill FPS that couldn't keep enough enemies on screen to keep my interest.

Too Human - This game is becoming more irrelevant each day. I don't think I played it in over a week, and with less time to game and Mercs 2 now out, I don't want to spend time playing it anymore. I'll be shocked if there's a Too Human 2 anounced. Silicon Knights were unproven before Too Human, and now they'll always be unproven, IMO. I put TH in the same category as Dead Rising, a game with a lot of potential, but the devs just weren't talented enough to achieve that potential. It didn't have to become a great game, AAA status or anything like that. All it had to be was good, and it feels average. I would keep playing it if there was nothing on the horizon for a good while, but it's almost September.

I'll give this a go.

Orphen To this day, this is the only game I've taken back to Gamestop because it was just crap. I remember reading all the negative reviews about it, but I was young and just getting into anime so I was very curious about it. I went and got it and I must say it's probably the worst game I've ever played. It was for PS2 kind of action RPGish, but it was just crap at the end of the day.

Auto Modellista pretty much the polar opposite of Orphen for me. This game got horrible reviews and I had been keeping tabs on it. The reviews kept it from being a day on purchase but then I just snapped and I had to get it. I'm so glad I did. In fact I ended up buying it for the GC and PS2. I originally bought it for GC because I wanted better graphics and they had some extra features but I ended up buying it for PS2 so I could do the mountain races online. So much fun. I wish people still played it today.

Those are the only two I can think off the top of my head. I'm sure I'lll have more later.

Bullet Witch - This game came out on the 360 after Lost Planet and Crackdown, and though it got lower review scores, I enjoyed the game more than the other two combined. A better developer would have made the game better, but it wasn't too bad overall.

Metroid Prime 3 - Simply put, it was the worst controlling game I have played on the Wii. While I'm still not thrilled about Metroid going the "me too" route when it comes to FPS, controlling Samus using the Wiimote made the game worse.

Dragon Warrior 8 I just can't handle random encounters any more. The game has a nice atmosphere, but the battle system and plot is so tired that I just couldn't get into it.

Final Fantasy VII I fell for the CG comericals. When I played I couldn't believe this turn based crap was considered a video game.

Skies of Arcadia I knew I hated turn based JRPG's but I decided to give this one a try yeah they suck.

This gen I really haven't ran into it Maybe it's the abundance of demos but I've been generally satisfied with every game I've bought this year.

I rented Burnout Paradise even though I didn't really like the demo. Just to try the full version and no it's the worst burnout in the series.

I should have held my ground and not bought Bionic Commando Rearmed. I said if it didn't come out in May, then I wasn't going to get it. It's not a bad game, but it's very forgettable compared to the current-gen stuff that is just now coming out. I would have played nothing but BCR during May-June. Now, it's just a space-waster on my 360.

I definitely should not have bought Jeanne d'Arc. Terrible SRPG. Disgaea, on the other hand, is one of the best purchases I've made.

I really wish I hadn't bought Assassin's Creed. Annoying-ass game that is.

It must be the PC version of the game that has messed up controls. I thought the controls were great for the game on console.

Do 3rd person games control well on the PC, w/o a controller?

I could say the same about PC ruining console games. Just look at all the games that's first person only. Look at Mirror's Edge. Interesting concept, but playing it in first person only just limits the game, IMO.

I would buy any 2D isometric game for pc or console if it's a good game. A 2D game with today's graphic advances would look great. But everything is geared toward wowing the player with the immersive graphics. I don't think that's the pc's fault. It's the advance in technology that enables these games to be made, as well as the arrival of big huge HDTVs and big flat screen computer monitors that make first person games so enticing. Game publishers push for these games because they sell, and developers forget that there are certain types of games that are just better if they are not first person. I saw the demo for Fallout 3, and it just looks like Oblivion with a different theme. I don't see how it can capture the feel of the original Fallout from what I saw of it.

I actually become less immersed in a game if it's first person only. As much as devs try to make people feel like they are the character in the game, I only want to control the character, not be that character. I guess that's why it's easy for me to choose to control a chick in a game than other gamers.

I think Fallout 3 is going to be great, based on how much I enjoyed Oblivion. I usually don't like putting high expectations on games, but there is only one coming out by the end of this year that can outdo Fallout 3, and that is Fable 2.

I thought the videos out for Fallout 3 gameplay was wasted on the first person only view. It made the game look like a run of the mill FPS and didn't give me a good chance to see the animations. From what little I saw, the character looked a bit stiff (not as stiff as Too Human), but the characters in Oblivion were stiff as well. Also, why have a game that you can create and customize a character if it's stuck in a view where you can't even see them?
