Pimping another website in your link, but with a new user name, huh? Well, we'll just take over this thread like we did with the other one, considering I was wanting to make a Mercs 2 thread anyway.
I'm getting the game. It's actually coming out at a good time. Not only is it showing up in stores on Sunday, but it's going to be Labor Day weekend so there's going to be another day of possible game time (unless I'm actually doing something), and it's coming out on the last non-football weekend of the year.
I can't wait for this game, but I have to get through this week before I can really start anticipating it.

So that August 31st date is correct, eh Hunter? That's weird.
But I don't know why I talk to you about this game; I know you're getting it for the PS3.

Yeah, the 31st is correct. Every store that sells games should have it ready to sell on Sunday. I could get it as early as 8am, but I pre-ordered it at Best Buy, which opens at 11am. If there's a difference between the PS2 and PS3 versions, then I may want both.
No co-op opportunities if I get it for the PS3 is what I'm guessing the  is for? I wouldn't be able to on the 360, since I'm no longer Gold. Sure, I still have some 48 hour thingies, but I can redeem one of those and only get 30 minutes of co-op in. I guess I like to be able to co-op at any time instead of having that 48 hour time limit.
More than likely, I'll be too selfish with the game to share the map with another player. I already know I'll call in one of those nuke bombs on anyone who happens to jump in my game, especially if they are a Giants, Raiders, Chiefs or Packers fan.

Sweet! looks like i'm safe, then.
I also will probably want to play some if not all of the game SP before I start messing around with co-op, unless they have the option for multiple saves. That really grinds my gears how Crackdown only gives you one save.

Indeed it was.
Was. That was before I knew about the following:

Yikes. Okay then.

Speaking of Crackdown... I think we should finish our game up before M2 arrives; what do you think?

Yes. I We made some excellent progress last game, one or two more plays and I think we'll have this sucka done for. For 10 measly Gpoints. We could also work on the stunt markers though, and a few others. Did you ever get the one where you harpoon five guys to a car?

Hell I am getting this game too. Not on consoles though. I missed out on the first game for whatever reason but its concept and gameplay always intrigued me. I will surely be playing this one.

LOL Yeah man; you don't remember? I nailed them to this big honking flatbed truck, and used all dead bodies - running all over trying to find bad guys, killing them, then carrying their bodies back to the truck, where you waiting, making sure the truck didn't disappear.
If we just set our mind to finding and killing the bosses there's no doubt in my mind that we could git r done in one more play through. I'm thinking about 4-5 hours is all it'll take us.
However, you and I both know that Crackdown is fun because of all the messing around you can do. So the question we have to ask ourselves is: do we make a serious thing of it and do it quick? Or do we go out and have fun, which probably means dragging it out longer?
And then of course there's the Stunt Markers that you bring up. Personally I'd like to get them all. But I've a feeling that getting all of them will take an additional 10 hours. That's for both of us to get them.

Questions for all who are interested in Mercenaries 2:
1. Which system are you getting it for?
2. Are you getting it Day One; sometime in the first week; sometime before the end of the year; or are you going to wait awhile for the price to drop?
Me:
1. Xbox 360
2. I don't know anymore.

1) PS3
2) Day one purchase, definitely. I have it pre-ordered, but I could cancel it in order to get the game a few hours earlier depending on my patience.

Don't forget about Merriman. He may have two torn ligaments. I like the idea of the Giants moving "Kiwi" back to DE after playing OLB. I wouldn't pay Strahan $8 million to come back and play one more year. I'm tired if these so called retired players not staying retired.
About my character's wife in Fable, good luck. I may make a chick character. She could have a wife, though, considering Molyneux may put anything in the game.

Four more days.
I don't even feel like playing anything else, except for football. There's always room for football.

IGN has a review up. Too bad it was after I picked up the game, which makes it kind of useless.
Speaking of picking up the game, I got it the way I didn't want to. I decided not to get it with my pre-order, instead getting it at whatever store would have it first. I was already out, having to make a grocery store run. After three stores didn't have it, I ended up at my least favorite store of all time, Wal-Mart. They had it. Surprise, surprise.

I wish my Wal Mart had it. Grumble-grumble.

If you can, see if your Wal-Mart has it tomorrow. I thought every store would have it today, but some of my stores didn't have it at all, and it didn't look like they would.

So far, the only problems I have with the game:
1) Non-Sniper Zoom/Croutch is on the same button (L1). I usually zoom when using rocket launchers, but I like to croutch a bit to get some cover. Having both on the same button makes me want to croutch even less. The Sniper zoom is mapped to R3 and isn't affected.
2) Besides the default costume and the free one with the pre-order code, the only way to unlock more (so far) is to pass these trials. As much as I like to go off the beaten path in sandbox-style games, I'm not interested in doing a bunch of these type of trials.
3) Controlling cars and motorcycles are as tight as they were in Mercs 1. They aren't as annoying as the motorcycles in GTA4, but it takes some getting used to.
4) Some of the dialogue in the "Story" is cheesy. I don't know how much there will be in the rest of the game, but I kind of miss the flow of Mercs 1.
If I had to score the game, even after those four things, I would give the game only a 9.999999999998 out of 10.

I finally played some Co-Op on Mercs 2. Actually, someone jumped in my game. I thought about turning off the friendly fire (or turning it on, I forgot how that works) and calling in an air strike, but I decided to use the unknown player to help unlock some stuff in some gun challenges. After I was able to do that, I was going to do a couple of missions with the unknown player, but he started to cause trouble with one of the factions I'm in good standings with. Instead of watching the good standings go do hostile, I punted the unknown player and changed my online thing from anyone back to friend.

I finished Mercs 2 today. It took me 52 hours of game time to finish, though I didn't do certain side missions because they would have ruined my alliance with some factions. I'd give the game a solid 8.0/10, but it doesn't compare to Mercs 1, which I gave it a hard earned 9.5/10.

Mercs 2 DLC inbound
Posted Sep 30, 2008 5:06 pm PT By TomM_GScom
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames spent far longer in the cooker than most people had anticipated. And when Pandemic's open-world shooter-for-hire action game finally emerged, it landed with the thud of an undetonated bomb in many critics' eyes. However, thanks to a catchy tune and a heavy marketing push, EA has a good shot at keeping the game out of retailers' scavenge bins.
Doing its part, Pandemic said today that it will soon release a slate of downloadable content to breathe fresh life into its shooter. Available on Xbox Live beginning October 13 and the PlayStation Network a week later, the Total Payback update pack will add in a cheat mode that allows gamers to unlock all of the weapons, vehicles, and airstrikes. The free download will also include cheat support for infinite ammo and unlimited health.
Looking further ahead, Pandemic also said that it is prepping a more substantial game update for November. The November DLC will add six new playable characters, including Blanco, Fiona, Ewan, and Eva, as well as cross-region co-op multiplayer support. Pandemic promises to post more details on the November update on the game's official Web site.
Mercenaries 2 is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PC. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Interesting that the content is coming a week later to PSN after Live. At least with PSN cards in stores soon, I can get some game content from PS Store now. I'll probably get this and the Folklore stuff I didn't pick up.
The more interesting DLC is the November stuff, which includes new playable characters. IN early Mercs 2 previews, there were more than 3 Mercs, but the dev team scaled back for some reason. I'm glad they decided to put those characters in the game. I'll probably wait until after the Nov update to hop back on the game, though I am going through some withdrawals since I finished the game.
