Morrowind GOTY that is....
Being the addict to Morrowind that I am, I had to pick up GOTY. Let me tell you for those interested, it is well worth it.
One of the main problems I had with the original, was that not too far into the game, you were practically invincible with all of the gear you had. All of this has been solved with two words DIFFICULTY SLIDER. Crank that sucker up to 100 and you'll be running around in your full daedric armor getting your @$$ handed to you by a group of Goblins. Now I've just touched the surface of the first expansion, Tribunal, and I'm already hooked again. I haven't even visited the isle of Solstheim (Bloodmoon expansion, which is supposed to be the much better of the two).
Now I know what you're thinking..."But Spaz...what about all the glitches?" Well there's good news and bad news....
The good: I've not had a single DDE (Dirty Disk Error). The game seems to run a bit smoother, the visuals are a bit clearer, the draw distance seems about the same in outdoor areas, but the draw rate seems a bit quicker so it isn't "as" noticeable. Maybe it's just me, but the sound on the expansions seems to have been improved.
The bad: The game does freeze up for no reason for about 3-5 seconds, not very often and it will recover. There was only one time it did not and I had to restart, but that was after playing for several hours and trying to do about 5 things at once with multiple enchantments.
In addition to this freezing, I've heard that the particular disk drive in your Xbox can be partially to blame. Some of the earlier Thompson drives (the hole in the disk tray is just shaped like a U) seem to have issues with this game. My drive is a Thompson, the other drives are a Samsung, which is supposed to be the best of the three, and there's one more that I can't think of at the moment. If I can find the link, I'll post it.
The ugly: Load times. I literally started to load a game, went to the fridge to grab a beer, tried to twist off the top, remembered that this particular beer does not have a twist off, fumbled around for a bottle opener, laughed at myself for being a dumb@$$, opened my beer, returned to the livingroom and sat down...and the game WAS STILL LOADING. I'm not sure if it only takes a while with imported characters, or if it does the same when you start a new one, I'll have to test that. But it is a REAL pain as you will be dying several times if you play with the difficulty slider up.
Anybody else picked this one up yet?

Have you had any problems with Constant Effect items locking up your game like the first Morrowind?
Does the GOTY edition show the health bars of the enemies this time?
I've been keeping my eye on this one, but this may be the only title ever that intimidates me, mainly because I would have to start from scratch. Given the fact that I can't remember anything during the first month of playing this game after it was released, I really don't want to do that again :D . I will definitely pick up the title, but I'm not sure when.

Interestingly enough, the True Crime game for Xbox is reporting problems on many websites. Gamefaqs has many users that have experienced slow loading times and freezes with playing True Crime. And it may appear that certain drives are more prone to this than others.
I myself have a launch Xbox and a second one I bought several months back. So I have the Phillips and Thompson drives. For True crime, my launch Xbox drive makes a wierd sound when playing True Crime and it takes about 3 times as long to load as my other one. But with my newer Xbox, True Crime has locked up on me once.
It seems that with 3 possible drives, Xbox is not as standardized as we once thought.
I thought we played console games to avoid the problems with PC gaming. Crashes, lockups, which brand drive do I have, clearing the hardrive's cache .... [to Quote ThaMaskedGamer] "I don't know fellas, sounds like a PC to me."

But, yes the enemies have health bars this time around. And as far as the lockups go, I haven't had any that have frozen up the game again, just one, and the DDE is no longer an issue that I've seen.
If you're going to start all over, I would recommend you level up severely before attempting to go to Mournhold (Tribunal expansion) and I'm assuming Solstheim would be even more difficult. Although you can get some unique equipment there early on without getting into too much combat.

So far, True Crime locked up on me just once while doing some random crime solving. I hope it's a one time thing.
On Morrowind GOTY, have you tried to become a werewolf yet?

I'm "trying" to be good and take it one expansion at a time, so I started with Tribunal and have been working my way through that one. Saving the best (Bloodmoon) for last. And so far Tribunal has not disappointed in the least....a bit more linear than the original, but a very huge underworld to explore.

And all I can say is...wow... It's a different experience, that's for sure. Different enemies, weapons, armor, the landscape is completely different. Even the NPC's have more audible lines(except those stupid imperial guards where they constantly repeat "what say you" or "keep moving").
Anyone who was a fan of Morrowind MUST HAVE THIS GAME!

RBH's sentiments mirror mine, almost exactly... I am daunted by this game. I have the "first one" but really did not get that far into it. Though that's not because I don't like - I do, very much - it's just that I know the game will suck up months of my time. Still, I too am very interested in picking up this GOTY edition - I just don't know when. Prolly early next year. Because the next RPG that I'm going to allow myself to get immersed in is Deus Ex (besides Top Spin, Tiger Woods 2004, and Links 2004, I mean. :D ) And boy... I can't wait!
Question for you, SCP...
I've heard/read that this GOTY edition will allow you to carry over and play with your character(s) from the original edition. Is this really true?
And oh, btw...
I never did get your list of the 10 greatest games of this generation ya know!?!
Nor you either, Darwin!

In the GOTY Edition, can you still play in either 1st person view or 3rd person view?

Yes you can carry over your original Morrowind character...and I would recommend doing so before even attempting either expansion. You should be about level 15-20 before attempting to visit Mournhold or Solstheim.
And, yes, you can switch between 3rd and 1st person at will as in the original.
I'm just starting to get into the main story of Bloodmoon....quite interesting.....

If you decide to get turned into a werewolf, let me know how well it plays. That would be one of the first things I do in Bloodmoon, even if I save the werewolf part to a different file. I did the same when I turned into a vampire, but it wasn't as fun after I walked in the sun accidentally.

I guess I can kiss the sun and all of outside goodbye........
............I picked up the GOTY edition after getting rid of another game. I forgot how long it takes to build up a character if you do not pay for training. I'm only on level 3 and my character is dirt slow. I will try to play this in moderation, so I will not burn myself out on the game.

All,
My understanding (from GameSpot) is that Morrowind GOTY on Xbox does not include the new additons to the journal and the new quest log feature. The PC version of GOTY (which is coming out soon after the Xbox version) does include these features, but the Xbox version does not. Can someone confirm whether this is true or not?
Morrowind GOTY is the game I've been waiting for on Xbox all year, but if it doesn't have the quest log, I'd rather buy the PC version instead.
Thanks for the help,
RH.

The quest log in the Xbox version is the same craptastic, unorganized piece that it was before. I'm not sure why they couldn't bring that same update over. But since I don't have a rig that could run GOTY at and acceptable rate, I had to go with the Xbox version.

Spastic,

Thanks for the confirmation. Darn. I was really looking forward to playing Morrowind GOTY from the comfort of my living room, but with its enhanced quest log, the PC version seems like the way to go.
Thanks again,
RH.
