Gamecubes are back in production...
Nintendo Restarts GameCube Production
Does this mean people are buying GameCubes?
November 05, 2003 - Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper reports that Nintendo has, as of October, restarted production on the GameCube hardware. According to the paper, the stock of four million systems held over from the previous financial term have all been sold, prompting the renewal of production.
Nintendo, back in January, revealed that it would be temporarily stopping production of the GameCube due to excess stock.
http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458044p1.html
So to sum up - Gamecube sales have quadrupled, Gamecube's marketshare has doubled, Gamecubes are back in production, they are now the # 2 selling counsel in North America and had the best sales from the biggest multiplatform title this year - Soul Calibur 2.
Yup sounds like a real desparate situation down at Nintendo headquarters. LOL!!

Its great to see that things are turning around for the Gamecube. Nintendo seems to be finally waking up, and things are continuing to look up now that they are going to bring out the Zelda Bundle package as well. :D
Oh no....I hope they don't have to cut the price to $25 to sell these.
No need to flame, just joking.

Ummm, hate to break it to you, Trebor, but Nintendo is not out of the woods yet. The thing you have to remember is that most of these units were sold in Japan, not here where they really need a success.
Most 3rd party titles are still being cancelled at an ever increasing rate. So unless a miracle happens this Christmas, I'd say 2004 will be continue the downslide. Until they move a significant amount in the U.S., this is just a temporary reprieve. If things are so rosy, why is Nintendo rushing to get their news system out first? Because they know that they've lost this round. Just read Massi's interview with George Harrison to see what I mean.
Oh, BTW, if you think V/U was fed up with Nintendo, wait to you here what my friend from Atari/Infogrames told me. I'll be posting that soon.

It sounds like Nintendo's decision not to slap any bells and whistles on the Gamecube is finally paying off. DVD players, backwards compatibility, hard drives and all the other features cost $$$. Without all the extras Nintendo is allowed to price the Gamecube significantly lower than the PS2 and Xbox. Perhaps price is a big decision factor for people who have waited until now to purchase a gaming console. Perhaps they already have a DVD player or 2 and a computer with a hard drive. And perhaps the advertisements in the newspaper with the $99 Gamecube next to pictures of Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda: Wind Waker and Metroid Prime hold more weight than the $179 PS2 or Xbox. Maybe, maybe not. But I think it's time for you Xbots to stop bashing the GCN because it seems to be doing just fine.

Yeah, ummm Zilla Man, I hate to break it to you, but, US GC sales have remained at a constant 400% increase since the pricedrop and it's about the same in Europe. Also, they didn't drop their price in Japan - so enough with your wacky theories.

I think doubling your marketshare in the US is a pretty good indication of a upturn, wouldn't you say?
Plus, what seems more likely, Nintendo rushing to get a new handheld to the market to compete with Sony's or Nintendo rushing to put a new console on the market first, which they specifically state is not in the plans? I'm going with a new handheld.
Oh, BTW, if you think V/U was fed up with Nintendo, wait to you here what my friend from Atari/Infogrames told me. I'll be posting that soon.
Hmmm...anyone noticing a pattern here?
Acclaim first starts with the "fed up with Nintendo" speak. Acclaim also happens to be in financial trouble.
V/U is "fed up" with Nintendo. V/U's financial woes are widely known.
Midway is "fed up" with Nintendo. Midway is in the red.
Now Atari/Infogrames is "fed up" with Nintendo? Not coincidentally they are having financial problems as well.
Four companies are "fed up" with Nintendo. The same four companies are on the verge of bankruptcy. I know this is a "Un-American" kind of attitude, but, perhaps these companies should blame themselves for their money problems? Perhaps releasing a barrage of sub-par software titles isn't the best way to make money?

Wow what is this? Another rah rah Nintendo thread thanks to the price drop. Oh well at least you actually mentioned a game in this thread Trebor. The thing is that the game you mentioned is third party but it still proves nothing that we did not already know. We already know that if they put cutesy Nintendo characters in a game then everyone that owns a GC will buy the game. I still can't think of a single reason to buy a GC this Xmas other than Mario Kart, Viewtiful Joe, and a price drop. If you look at it objectively then you would know exactly what I mean.

Oh give me a friggen break Prince of Darkness! Here I'll give you a list of other reasons to buy a Gamecube:
Metroid Prime
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 0
Super Mario Sunshine
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Pikmin (for $20)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (for $20)
Ikaruga
Beach Spikers Volleyball (far and away better than any volleyball game on the Xbox or PS2)
Sonic Mega Collection
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2
Mario Golf
I can go on and on. You can't honestly tell me that none of these games interest you! Half of these games do not feature "cutesy Nintendo characters" if you're so opposed to them! If you really aren't interested in any of these games then you're a bad, bad gamer.

Calm down Sparky. I was talking about the holiday lineup which is spartan at best. The bottom line is that I am sick of these rah rah Nintendo posts that are coming on the heels of a frickin' price drop. The GC has hit the magic pricepoint of $99 and that is why people are buying it---plain and simple. When the other consoles lower their price you will see the same results for them. Btw---I still have my GC along with Zelda, Metroid, SSBM, ED, Soccer Slam, and Mario Sunshine. The only title that ever makes me fire up the Cube is SSBM because it is the only one that has withstood the test of time for me. That is my main problem with the cube.

Are you that gullible? Gamecube's marketshare in North America HAS NOT doubled. Sales for OCTOBER ONLY have doubled over the previous month.
Xbox has around 1.5 more installed systems than Gamecube in North America.
So they are the #2 selling system in North America in October. Let's see if that momentum continues with a mere handful of releases for the holidays-many of them being mediocre like Rebel Strike and niche titles like Viewtiful Joe.
All three versions of Soul Calibur 2 sold very well in the US. You act as if SC2 selling the most copies on Gamecube is some big deal. First, the numbers aren't that much higher than the Xbox version and the PS2 version is the best selling version as far as total copies sold goes. Second, the only reason the game sold so well on Gamecube is because of Link. Don't delude yourself into thinking that sales of SC2 are an omen for renewed 3rd party support.

Also, we've gone over this a million times - I don't namedrop videogame titles often. My least favorite kind of post on this forum is "gamelist" which people use ad nauseum. Well that fact is a direct contradiction to the stigma that "3rd party games don't sell well on the Gamecube". They do sell well when 3rd parties give enough respect to the platform. Delaying GC versions and sloppy ports seems to be a trend of 3rd parties.
You shouldn't dulude yourself into thinking "the only reason the game sold so well on Gamecube is because of Link" mentality that is so prevalent in Xboyz®. So many of you use that excuse that I get a good chuckle every time I see it. I think the lack of a "top-notch" fighting game on the GC platform had a huge part to play in SC2's success. Link is cool, no doubt, but he wasn't my reason for buying the game.

Just giving you grief as usual man. I don't like not counting the multiplats either especially since I love the Xbox so much. It just doesn't make sense to not count multiplatform games. Just because a game is on two or more platforms doesn't make it disappear from the game library from your system of preference.
Plus, if you don't count multiplatform titles, the Xbox library has a serious disadvantage. Since the PC platform, like Japan, counts. :p

Ah, you can't put up a decent arguement so you try to personally attack me. Don't worry Trebor, I am used to it. See, unlike you-I own more than one system and enjoy gaming on more than one system. I've said it so many times that I am almost blue in the face: WHATEVER SYSTEM HAS MY CURRENT FAVORITE GAME(S) IS MY CURRENT FAVORITE SYSTEM. Xbox has had a flood of quality games while Gamecube & PS2 has had a trickle. Of course, that's just my opinion and should be taken as such.
The reason for Soul Calibur II selling best on Gamecube IS because of Link. Look at the three covers for the game. The PS2 version has 4 characters on it as does the Xbox version. The Gamecube version has only three however-with Link taking front & center and arguably the most popular SC character-Mitsurugi also on the Gamecube cover only. Nintendo fanboys lapped this game up because of LInk-pur and simple.
And as for Mario Kart Double Dash-it is one of the few Gamecube games I am getting between now and Christmas alongside Resident Evil Code Veronica X and Mario Party 5. I contrast, I have eight Xbox games to buy before the end of the year and four PS2 games.

I don't think the GTA series is too violent or outrageous to be on the GC--after all, the fully topless BMXXX showed up there. And I don't think you could say nintendo didn't want the series, though I doubt they pursued it. I do believe MS payed a lot of money to get these games, which are better suited to the Xbox than the GC. So much of the gamecube demographic wouldn't (or wouldn't be allowed) and much of the rest of the GC demographic has a PS2 and has already played this game if they wanted to. Even on Xbox, I'm wondering how many out of 10 million users haven't already played this game on PS2 or PC. I suppose some total sheep will buy the same game all over again, but I would have no idea why. Once through this game is enough.
One other thing though, is I don't think you could actually put this game on the GC if you wanted to. I know large games like Resident Evil can be split on 2 disks because the game is sequential, but GTA is not a sequential game, it is free form. And it is way bigger than 1.5GB; I think all those different radio stations, even compressed into MP3 format, take up nearly that much space.

Just calling em' like I see em'. Joking about your multiple personalities is nothing new around here, let me remind you.
Yup that's right, Geezer, the box art was really the big selling point.
Maybe you bought the game because of Link - since I recall you bought all three versions for the system specific characters. But I didn't. There were only two fighting games available for the GC when SC2 was released - Mortal Kombat (never liked this series) and one that was so forgetable I can't even remember it now.
And as for Mario Kart Double Dash-it is one of the few Gamecube games I am getting between now and Christmas alongside Resident Evil Code Veronica X and Mario Party 5. I contrast, I have eight Xbox games to buy before the end of the year and four PS2 games.
Goody for you. There is 1 GC title I'm buying from this point to the end of holiday season - Mario Kart. There is also 1 title I'm going to buy form my Mac between now and the end of holiday season - Throne of Bhaal (finally ported to the Mac platform).
I might rent PoP, BG&E and Metal Arms - but nothing else really interests me.

So when the Xbox gets a port of a old game, it is a reason to brag. But when the GC gets a port, or a remake, of an old game, it is a sign of a "failing platform". Most amusing. Can you Xboyz® make one reply that isn't contradictory?
Also, when you say 3rd place system, I assume you are referring to the Xbox - since it is in 3rd place according to worldwide sales. And no, I'm not defending the Xbox.

<div class=\"smallfont\">Thanks professor, but your beating a dead horse. We all know the distinction between the current sales upturn and total numbers. Funny you didn't mention Mario Kart, though. I'll bet your life that MK will be the biggest selling game this holiday season.
Lastly, I know this is a transition period between your "kitty-cuber" persona and your "Xbot" persona, but you totally passed over your "Sony milk-drinker" personality. C'mon! We need some variety.</div>
With games like Prince Of Persia and True Crime running around for all three consoles I seriously doubt that Mario Kart will blow any of them away during the holidays.Keep hope alive Trebor.(I just loved those RS III review scores.LMAO)

Between now and xmas, it would not suprise me at all if Mario Kart outsold Prince of Persia and True Crime world-wide. It might even outsell them just in the US, even though those two games are on all three consoles. Stores are placing huge relase date orders on Mario Kart. . . just go ask around and see how many copies some of the stores are getting on release date. At any rate, it will certainly be the largest selling game available for only one system. I guess games coming out for 3 consoles plus PC have the advantage of targeting 100 million user base as opposed to just 10 million.
RS III was flawed by the attempt to put land missions in it. But have you played it? Did you know it included the entire second game in the series with co-op mode? This game didn't score terribly, it just didn't turn out to be the A+ title most of us expected. It's not that big a deal, but feel free to put it in every single post you make as you have been doing. But save yourself some typing time and make the RS thing your signature line until you pinch off a new thought out of your puckered brain.

Mario Kart: Double Dash will release November 17 in America.

Yup that's more than 180,000 units sold - in less than a week. Plus, it has a 94% ranking on Gamerankings.
Also, the ranking for Rebel Strike is at 76%, with scores ranging from a low 4/10 to a high 9.3/10 - I've never seen a game with such mixed reviews. 76% is hardly a poor average - it's a good average, in fact. But, being as that I know you haven't played it, your comments carry this much weight - 0.
Keep this crap up and you'll get banned again, for sure.

Okay so the GC still continues to sell at a fever pitch.Your point is what? Cheap console sells out the whazu.Thats great. But it doesnt mean its the better console over the PS2 or the Xbox though.
Mario Kart will do well for itself. But overall games like True Crime and POP will outsell it in the long run.Plus as far as RS III goes yes I've played it.I actually liked the flying missions. The on foot missions sucked.
I even thought the disco intro(with the Star Wars characters dancing on the strobe light dance floor) at the beginning of the game was kind of cheesey too.Bottom line just about every videogame magazine said the game sucked.Game Informer even said and I quote"One of the biggest disappointments in all of gaming."And the overall score of the game was a mere 6.5.That right there carrys a whole lot of weight IMO.
Nice try to rile me up Trebor ole chap but its all about the games.Keep the personal comments to yourself.

You've played RS III? You've been caught lying about things here so many times, I don't see why anyone should believe you. The game was disapointing because it wasn't perfect. . . when everything else in the series is perfect, your hopes are very high. Point is, there are a lot of games on get scores in the mid seventies that are a lot of fun, including many xbox titles. I'm playing Oddworld right now; its flawed, a little repetitive in the gameplay departement, scored in the 70's, but I'm still digging the hell out of it because of things about it that were done well. I could see you getting your laugh a MONTH ago when star wars came out and we found that it wasn't perfect, but for you to still be squawking out of your ignornant cake hole all this time later about a GOOD/Average game in EVERY post you make, it just makes you look like you've got nothing but some weird obsession.
You have no idea the behind the scenes celebrations that happened when you were banned, the virtual high-fives. But now, once again, whether you actually have anything to say at all, you'll spew in EVERY SINGLE THREAD OVER AND OVER AND OVER. You'd think you could take a page from Joah from Alberta's book and CONSERVE YOURSELF.

If I never played RS III before how would I know about the disco intro before the game credits started? Good question huh?
Its not my fault that RS III-The most hyped up Star Wars game yet was reviewed as a flop compared to the last Star Wars game that received nothing but praises. And just think that particular game happened to be an Xbox game.OUCH! Did that hurt? I bet it did.LOL!
And yes FYI I read all the comments that you and many others made.I will forgive but never forget them.Other than that I would watch your flaming and stick to gaming if I were you."The Game" isnt going to conserve anything.Me and you are going to be the best of friends around here Gadfly.Watch your mouth or you'll go South.I've learned my lesson.Chill out before you be the next to get sent packing.

Compare RS III reviews to KOTOR's reviews. From one Star Wars game to another KOTOR killed RS III reviews by a huge margin of over 20%.Not to mention Game Informer called RS III"One of the biggest disappoints in all gaming."Not even an Xbox game has ever received that distasteful honor.
Plus the way you've been "Whistle-blowing" on people to the mods about things lately,I'll make sure to stay clear from you Trebor.Real man you are these days.

What's up with you lately questioning everyone on whether they are "real men?" What's that have to do with anything? You just did it to Folken, too, a bit ago in another thread. I think you even did it to me in an xbox thread. What, me getting an xbox finally makes me a "real man?" What's with you and getting one phrase stuck in your head that you put in every single post on any given day? I'm being fully serious when I suggest you may need medical help.
So what do you mean when you say "real man" anyway???
Since it has become a compulsive phrase for you, it doesn't take much to see you have manhood issues. Are you blustering about "real men" to hide your shame over the fact that you were a badly behaved little boy who has spent the last month in "time out" standing in the corner with a dunce hat on while the rest of the class continued to have--finally--rational discussions of the state of gaming and on console competition?
