Just wondering if the cube has anything to offer for older gamers --- let's just say over 30 and leave it at that :D !
I like sports games and rpgs but not if they are done in anime style. I like "thinking mans" games too. And, occasionally I like a good racing game.
Is there enough with the cube for a guy like me? I'm a big strategy gamer and rpg gamer, mostly on the PC, even though I have a PS2.

Well, to be honest, if you are big into sports games, the PS2 is the king of the hill. If you are big into non-anime rpgs, you already have a PC. So it seems, as far as what your post is saying, you already have the best platforms for your preference of games.
But, that isn't to say that you wouldn't enjoy a Gamecube if you bought one - I certainly do and I'm closer to 30 than 20. I think there are a lot of great exclusive titles on the Cube and is definitely what you want if you like nostalgia at all.
The best advice I can give is this - research what titles are available for which system before you make your final choice. So if you really like what you see in the Gamecube library, then go for it.

I'm going to have to agree with trebor in that the PC sounds like the gaming system of choice for you. However the Gamecube has plenty of great games that you will more than likely enjoy. I think the aspect of the Gamecube you'll enjoy the most (coming from a PC and PS2) is the speed and easy to pick up and play nature of the Gamecube. You'll definitely be pleasantly surprised with the lightning fast load times of the GCN. And the games are generally easier to play with less complicated menus and controls when compared to PC gaming.
Some of my favorite games are:
Metroid Prime
Eternal Darkness
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 0
Super Mario Sunshine
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
You should check out these games to see if you think you would enjoy them. I usually go to gamerankings.com to look up games I'm considering a purchase of. If some of these games look cool to you then you should go pick up a Gamecube for just $99!!!

6, 16, 26, 86, I don't care how old you are. Mario Kart on the Gamecube could be the biggest title ever for any system. Everyone loves it, although some will say they don't, but when it comes to fun, you can't go wrong with Gamecube. Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario and Mario Kart, you're covered on the Cube. I'm 17 and I'll never stop loving Nitnendo. Kisses.

Alli brings up some good points there. I'm 22 and I still have the most fun playing Nintendo games. Although I spend an amount of time gaming on my PC, I always find myself going back to my Gamecube to play the latest Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. games. If you can't have fun playing Mario Kart then you're a bad, bad, bad gamer.

gamecube all the way man!!! the game cube somtimes have better graphics then the ps2. not tot mention the great variety of game on the cube. sure the pc and the ps2 offers a lot more games but the game cube offer really good ones. Quality over quantity. I know you would enjoy metroid prime and mkdd and also medal of honor. i know my dad does hes around 40 and hes plays games with me like mohrs and mohfl both of those are good games so hec anyways the cube is only 100.00 bucks. Get one you won't regret it im sure.

Well. . . .I don't consider 30 to be old anymore, but anyway, I'm an adult gamer. If you'd have posted this question over in the sys wars forum you'd have probably gotten a bigger earful on the subject. There are a lot of adult gamecube fans at this site, but there are a lot of people that would have had a blast trying to sell you on the xbox.
I think the GC is great for older gamers--but not in all cases. In mine, I'm a fan of Nintendo first party games despite their lack of violence and "too cute" graphics. I loved the strategy game pikmin, the colorful vacation themed Mario Sunshine, and Metroid was a stellar first person-perspective adventure. The system has games that appeal to all age ranges, as well as a little bit of really good "adults only" fare like Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil. It's got some good adult multi-system games too, like Hitman II and Splinter Cell--but of course, you can get those on PC too. I'm an adult gamer, and the GC is my favorite system, and the most diverse. F-Zero is one of the best futuristic racers I've ever played.
Still, I'd only recommend this system of you really like Nintendo, Mario, Zelda type of games. You mention being into PC RPG's and strategy, and in that sense, an Xbox might be kind of redundant since it has so many PC ports (I'm sure you've already played Morrowind.) As far as occasional racing, xbox is my favorite place to race. GC seriously lacks RPG and realistic racing games.
If you're just looking for some console-style gaming to compliment your PC, as an adult gamer I've been more pleased with the GC than I ever imagined I would be (I wasn't a big fan of the N64 and its lack of 3rd party games.) And at $99, you can't really go wrong.
One thing I can say for sure is, don't buy a Ps2 right now. The price will drop sometime soon, and being that its the least powerful console out there, its definitely overpriced right at the moment.

Despite the lack of rpgs & strategy games for most consoles, Game Cube is just too good a value to pass up.
I bought it this summer when the price dropped to $99, just so I could could do that retro thing in Star Wars Rogue Squadron: Rogue Leader.

well if people are over 50 they shoud get the game cube so they can play mohrs. it would be so cool to be able to play a game about a war that you served in. You could see how good they reinacted the scenes and the feelings of the game.

At $84 used I couldn't pass up a Gamecube and I've plowed through RE0 RE and Eternal Darkness since I'm a big survival horror Fan. But western RPGs and strategy games? You're better off with your PC and PS2. The Xbox has 2 really good western style rpgs with a PC sensibility to them, with more to come, and a good to average hack n slash in D&D Heroes, depending on who you talk to. The PS2 has some pretty good non anime RPGs. Check out Wizardy Tale of a Forsaken Land, Legend of Alon Dar, Shadow Hearts, Summoner 2, Kings Field and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance is great and it's multi plat. Gladius is a strategy RPG that's multiplat also, so you can't go wrong purchasing a Cube at all... just don't know how much action it's gonna get though. But for the price my small GC library is worth it.

if your looking for good racing or stradegy or rpg you dont really need a gamecube because most good rpg racing are on each system.Consider getting an xbox they have good games and good exlusives better than gamecubes no doubt.Dont get me wrong gamecube is a good system but xbox has more to offer. Now if your into Mario,Zelda,And Metroid consider getting a gamecube. But in my opinion Xbox is the best system.
Hope I could Help!
I am closing in on 40 and enjoy the GC system as does the whole family. My main gaming platform is my pc but there is still alot of fun titles on the GC including:
SW Clone Wars
Mario Sunshine
Metroid Prime
Zelda WW
Mario Cart DD
V-Joe
NFL 2k series of course and Maddens........all good stuff
I like the smaller system and disks so my boys don't totally ruin them and the fact that it is easier to put away is a factor in this house full of toys.

I hear a lot of people are buying GBA:SP's, older people to be exact. If you have on I'd get on the wagon and buy a cube. Its only 99$. If your a star wars fan (particularly for the rogue sqaudron [was reading the comics and books way before the game came out]) Look no further. It has some top SW games and the ones you miss you get on your PC like KotOR and Battlefront (Battlefront is coming to the PS2, so it might hit the cube).
Anyways theres a lot of stuff you can do with a cube it seems and its very small and portable. I'd buy it, oh wait I bought it (two days ago in fact)
