Well, my backup quad crossfire PC that I keep in my bedroom is having a huge problem. I've been running various games and getting incredibly bad performance even without filters enabled. Well here is the hardware.
Apevia Cruiser Case
Viewsonic 27.5" Monitor 6 bit monitor(TN Panel)
Westinghouse 24" 8 bit monitor (MVA Panel)
MSI K9A2 Platinum motherboard
AMD Phenom 9600 processor (The one with TLB erratum)
2 500 gig SATA2 drives in RAID 0
4 Radeon 3870s with 512mb
Soundblaster X-FI
4 gigs of DDR 2 800 RAM
2 DVD Burners
2 DVD Roms
Antec Truepower 1000 watt power supply with 4 18 AMP 12 volt rails
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Now I ran Half Life 2: Lost Coast at 1920 * 1200 and only got a 34 FPS average. I had everything on expect FSAA including 16x aniso. The opening sequence of the benchmark ran in the single digits!!!!! The kicker is my old PC with an Opteron 185 (2.6Ghz dual core) and 2 Radeon 3850s with 256 megs of RAM ran the test without FSAA at a 98 frame average at 1680 * 1050. This is driving me nuts.
In frustration I uninstalled the drivers(8.6) and pulled all 4 cards out last night. I put in my single GeForce 8800 GTX and it got even worse, With the latest drivers I got even slower performance and image corruption. I'm getting a bit spooked here. As a precaution I ordered a very low cost and low power consumption Athlon X2 from Newegg. (Athlon 5200+ 2.7ghz Dual Core with 512kb * 2 level 2 cache) I can't think of anything else except that maybe the processor was damaged/ and or was a piece of crap right from the start. Because it has not been all that stellar from the beginning.
Anybody have any clue what might be going on here?
