Kicks off tonight in about an hour and a half from now. 8pm, Mountain. I remember seeing some DOA fights a while back, and thought that I could scrap with those guys. Of course, it looks so easy when you're not playing, but still, I know I could scrap with a few. Not in the FPS games though.
Anyone gonna watch? I want to check it out, just to see what the hub-bub is all about. What games are involved? I saw DOA4 and about three FPS.

Just as I thought, the DOA4 matches were pretty average. I just don't see people performing amazing skills, it just looks like me fighting RBH. Basic moves, with the standard combos.
The Forza matches were also pretty lame. Everyone tried to take each other out at the beginning of the match, and whoever made it through endind up winning the race. Dull.
Counter-Strike was pretty cool, though.
I think they're gonna be showing these matches every Sunday or something like that. The 101.

Well in fairness, there isn't really much depth to Dead or Alive compared to say Virtua Fighter or Tekken.

Maybe the first 3 DOA games. But DOA ultimate and DOA4 are far from being the button smashers the previous ones were.

Well I'll take your word for it regarding DOA4 and Ultimate, I never played those. The previous 3 were not exactly button mashers, you had to learn some timing to do those reversals and to avoid them (especialy against CPU on ultra hard because the CPU is plain cheese) but yeah generally I found they did not have as much depth.
Re: FPS lol I feel ya Bane trying to get a kill off a master is hella hard. I used to be a master at Counterstrike though and I would outrank the enemy doing 30+ kills suffering less than 5 deaths. That was until I injured my left middle finger anyway.

I've been watching this show for the past few weeks, and there are some seriously talented gamers in these things. The teams as a whole are basically like what I play with online, and that's having one or two monster gamers with the rest being average, or probably slightly above-average, but the gamers that are the leaders are very good. Femals always say that they don't like being stuck in the whole "she's good, for a girl" deal, so I'll just say that the girls of this competition suck ass. i have some killer female gamers on my Live firneds lists who kick ass on most guys(not me, lol), so to see how average the girls of this competition play is a bummer.
Those DOA4 guys got their blocking skills down, and are able to adjust their gameplay on the fly depending on what the opponent is doing. I try to do that kind of stuff, but usually when I stray from my original gameplan, i start getting wupped on.
Also, the Counter Strike Source guys do some serious ownage. Almost like they know where their opponent will be. I learned a trick called the flick shot where you click the mouse and swing it towards your enemy and get a quick kill somehow. Fantastic.
The soccer matches are boring. I like it in real life, but seeing a couple of shlubs play it in a game just doesn't do it for me. Unless they pull off a crazy GOOOOOOAAAL!!!
I don't like the Forza matches either. It's 2 vs 2, and the matches end up being crash and smash races, the winner being the one who makes it through the wreckage. Kind of lame-sauce.
Overall though, it's fun stuff if your a fan of competative gaming.
Also thought about this thread because they're going to start having tournaments at my local bar(the Drifter, where my band plays shows) in a week or so, and I'm gonna see how I hold up against the locals. I think I'll do OK, the only problem being that i don't have guitar Hero 3, or 80's(gave it to my bro). They're also having Rock Band tourneys, so i might see if I can find a crew to shred some tacks with.

Thing with fps games is knowing the maps like the back of your hand and knowing where all the spawn points are.In a game like UT 2004 listening to sound was crucial to being good.I could beat guys who were better then me just by knowing where they were on the map. Each weapon pickup made a distinct sound so when i heard a weapon pickup i knew which weapon it was and where it was located by knowing the map so well.It would allow me to get a jump on my opponent even if he was superior to aiming i could get off a shot or 2 before he even knew where i was.Theres alot more to being a good fps player then just aiming.I use to watch this game competition on G4 TV forgot the name of it but they had some actual pro gamers on there at times

Here's a highlight of DOA Female semis.

And Birmingham Salvo beat San Francisco Optx in the finals. Some good battles in that one. It's the first win for a European team ever, although i'm not sure how many of these Gaming Series there have been.
