View Full Version : Pile of shame

A pile of shame in our context consists of games you've really wanted to play but never got around to. It may also includes games that you played but never finished.

Here's mine:

1. God of War (PS2)
Never got around to beating it. Plan to resolve that ASAP. May also consider God of War 2 thereafter depending on how satisfied I am with the first one after I beat it.

2. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
Now that I have a Wii again, it's first on my list. Well, it's tied for first.

3. Zelda The Twilight Princess (Wii)
The other "tied for first" Wii title.

4. COD4 single player (PS3)
Played 27 hours of online multiplayer but never played the single player.

5. Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Never finished it. Some other game must have distracted me.

6. Metar Gear Solid 1-4
Never played any of the Playstation Metal Gear games. Messed around with MGS1 for the PS1 and that's about it. Not sure when I'll get around to it however.

7. Shadow of the Colossus & Ico (PS2)
Played approx. 30 minutes of each. Really want to give them a try.

8. Super Stardust HD (PSN via PS3)
Played the first world 100+ times and need to move onto the rest of the worlds. Also need to beat them in succession whille playing arcade mode.

9. Last but not least; GTA4. Played 2 hours or so and shelved it temporarily when I picked up a Wii. Got distracted but I plan to come back and invest mass time at a later date.

This is a fantastic thread idea, Fiveski!

1. Fire Emblem - Radient Dawn.
This one's been sitting on my entertainment center for months. First it got shelved when I played No More Heroes. Then it was Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now I'm heavily addicted to Mario Kart. Sad thing is I was really enjoying FE-RD, but I've been in a "twitch" mode of gaming lately.

2. Etrian Odyssey
I love this game. I truly do. I've probably invested over 40 hours into it so far, but I stopped playing for some reason and I haven't picked it up since. Major shame on me for that.

3. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
I don't know if this counts or not, but I bought this game knowing I didn't like the previous versions, but hoped I would find the love in it that so many other players find. I didn't. Just can't see me investing any more time into this since MK came out.

4. Ninja Gaiden - Dragon Sword
I like it - it's pretty. Thing is (and this applies to Etrian Odyssey as well) the only time I play my DS is before bed. Lately I've been in more of a reading mood than a gaming mood, so my DSing has suffered tremendously.

5. All WiiWare/Virtual Console Games
Yes, I'm lame. We haven't bought one single game from the download service. Though, that might change soon, since my wife is a Dr. Mario freak and it is being released on WiiWare.

6. Medal of Honor - Heroes 2
Gave the single-player mode all of 30 minutes. I have spent many, many hours online though.

7. Rayman Raving Rabids
Played it for a week or two when the Wii launched. Then I popped in Twilight Princess and never played Rayman again.

8. WarioWare Wii
I'm posting this on my wife's behalf. She insisted that we buy this game, then promptly stopped playing after about 3 days.

9. Fire Emblem - Sacred Stones
Bought this one right before the DS was released and never found the time to actually play it.

10. Rogue Squadron, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes, Eternal Darkness, and many, many more...
I've beaten and loved all of these games, but never got around to playing the "hard" modes, additional modes, gone for all the points, went for the best ending, etc.

Oh yeah I have a ton of these. If we were to include previous previous generations there's just too much for me to list. Right now though these come to mind:

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
Contra 4
Etrian Odyssey
Trauma Center
The World Ends with You
Animal Crossing
Rune Factory
God of War 1 and 2
Devil May Cry 1 and 3
Ninja Gaiden
Valkyrie Profile 2
Final Fantasy X

Why the hell do you have to go and get me thinking about this issue? I've been trying to ignore it for a while now...

1. The Witcher
Such a long game. What happens is I start playing it, I really enjoy it, then something comes up in real life, so I stop gaming for a while. When I come back to games, I can't for the life of me get back into this game since it takes such a massive time/energy investment. It's an AMAZING game, very deep, but takes a lot of effort (at least for me) to get immersed in its world.

2. Crysis
I actually started playing it again two days ago, and it's really fun. I just hope I can finish it before the summer is over.

3. Resident Evil 4 (PC)
I'm at the part after you have to go through the clock tower, shooting all the wooden planks they stuck in the gears. I can't get back into it because I know that the first thing I'll have to deal with is a mass of enemies on a bridge and one monk with a rocket launcher. Ugh, I hate that rocket launcher guy.

4. Crush
This game is great and all, but it's so...boring. Not boring because it's a boring game, but boring because it's a puzzle game; there's no action and shooting stuff. I really want to finish it though.

5. Daxter
Sort of fell by the wayside for some reason. I need to get on it and finish this, I love the game.

6. Assassin's Creed
I think exams might have crept up on me, but for some reason I stopped playing this game, even though I really enjoyed it. But now I see such a large barrier if I want to start again, i.e. having to get caught up on the story (even though there's not much of it).

7. Rainbow Six Vegas
I tried playing it again yesterday, but damn this game is AGGRAVATING! Whoever designed the shootout areas is a bastard. After restarting this one checkpoint over 10 times (no joke), I finally got through the area and turned the PS3 off out of frustration. We'll see if I come back to this.

8. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
This game I really enjoyed when I started playing it, but then I got Vegas and stopped playing it, then when I stopped playing Vegas I never went back to GRAW2. I like this game more than Vegas, but I guess Vegas left a bad taste in my mouth. This game I intend to finish though, and soon. It's great.

9. New Super Mario Bros.
Wow, I don't even know where this game (or my DS, for that matter) is anymore. I remember playing the game back when it came out and I enjoyed it very much, but never got around to finishing it.

10. Yoshi's Story DS
Ditto. Played it when it came out, but I eventually moved on. I really went all out though, never moving onto the next stage until I got 100% completion on every level.

There's probably a lot more games out there that I haven't finished, but I'd rather not think about them. I'm very ADD with games, I'll move on from a game if I haven't finished it in a week or two. I really need to work on that.

Super Smash Bros Brawl - Good game, but after starting the side scroller/platformer part of the game, I've completely ignored the fighting mode. I haven't unlocked Snake or Ganondorf, and those are the two characters I wanted to unlock before I even picked up the game. Even then, I don't even play the side scroller. I thought it was better in Melee, where you pick one character and used him or her for the entire thing. Here, there's a bunch of switching going on, and at times they give good options, but other times they give me characters I couldn't care less about controlling.

Zelda: Twilight Princess - I've had this game since February, but have logged in a total of 5 hours. I played some of it a few weeks ago, but other games put this one on the backburner.

Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - I just got this one 1/2 off, and still have yet to power it up on the DS. I've been trying to revive my non-existent handheld gaming interest, but it's hard to do with the current gen systems around.

Mario Sunshine - Still have a long ways to go in this game. Its a very good game, but like the DS games, the Wii games (excluding Bowling and HR contest) seem to get put on the backburner for the other systems.

God of War II - Twelve hours in the game, and still haven't beaten it. It may be a good time to try, with NG2 coming out next week.

Perfect Dark Zero/Kameo - Two Rare games on the backburner. I picked these up new for $4.70 each, and figured they would be some good collection games that I can jump on during the quiet months of gaming. Well, there hasn't been any quiet time.

GT 5 Prologue - Good game, but I personally find Need for Speed Prostreet a lot more interesting. It's more sim than the other NFS games (though not as sim as GT or Forza) and there's car damage. Plus, it has a much better career mode than Prologue's same old boring mode, which isn't even a career. It's the same as the other GT games, IMO.

Mario Kart Wii - Like it. Beat three circuits, then stopped playing it for PGR4 and NFS Prostreet. It won't be ignored for long, though.

Folklore - I like this game, but it's kind of annoying when I feel like i'm doing the same thing twice. I'm thinking about just going the rest of the game with one character (Ellen), and picking up on Keats part later on. I disagree with the devs about this one. I think I can get the full story with just one of the characters.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrows - Actually, I may not be ignoring this game for long. My interest in SOTN may have me playing this one soon, and I can still find Portrait of Ruin new for $20 in case I still want some 2-D Castlevania.

GRAW 2 - This game looks fantastic on the PS3. So why am I not playing it? I dunno. Maybe after MGS4, I'll get into it.

It seems like most of my games on here are either Wii or DS games. THere's a few PSP games I should list on here as well, but I'm turning against the PSP for some reason.

I've gone back to finish Twilight Princess, which has sat on the shelf for more than a year. I played it a good 6-7 hours over the holidday weekend. After that, I'm playing Ocarina of Time, which I downloaded but have never played.

RE4 kept dying in the second Krauser fight with the bombs ticking down.

Fear Files downloaded the demo on live love it but never picked the game up ( I want it for under $20)

And there are a bunch of other unfinished games but they are unfinished for a reason I don't want to.

I started hacking away at my list and are currently playing God of War. I'm 6 hours into the campaign and are making good progress. Hopefully I can knock it off the list and move onto the others ASAP. I plan to focus on my list over the summer while putting newer games on the back burner.

I also have two additions to my list.

-Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3). Sorry Mochan but I really want to finish this game. Have only played it cooperatively and plan to finish it the same way although my playing buddy hasn't been available lately as he's now thoroughly engulfed in GTA4. I'm adding it to the pile as I eventually plan on coming back to this game.

-Army of Two (PS3). Started the coop campaign with my cous' on Friday and are waiting for him to pick up a copy so that we can finish (played locally over the weekend but want to start playing cooperatively over the net as local isn't always feasible).

I have a lot of games that I want to play, but haven't because of a lack of system(Wii) or they're just low on my priorities.

One for sure is Twilight Princess. I just have no will to play it though.

I enjoyed both of these games. I played through the first mission of Army of Two again, and I may go ahead and plow through it before next Wednesday (June 4th).

Vegas 2 is still my current GOTY contender, though it won't stay that way. I still think this game is a lot better than the first Vegas (especially since I'm currently playing that one), and I plan on visiting Vegas 2 again soon.

One for sure is Twilight Princess. I just have no will to play it though.

I've been tempted to get rid of Twilight Princess. It's a good game, but I just don't think I'm going to ever finish it. I've had it since February, and I can only muster 5 hours of play. With me wanting to wave the Wiimote around for about 30 minutes max a gaming session, I'll never see the end of this game.

-

I need to add another game to my list:

Grand Theft Auto 4 - It's not a disappointing game, but there's something about it that makes me forget I even have it. I only stopped playing half way through the other GTAs when I came down with "being burned out" symptoms. I've only played about ten minutes worth since last Monday, and that was even a bit forced. Oh, I know what it is. It's a combination of story and main character that's not gripping my attention. I usually want to find out what happens in the story or to the main character, but after playing over 30 hours of the game, I'm still not interested in him or his story.

Oh, I have another few additions:

The Total War Series
I played Medieval, Rome, and Medieval 2, and haven't finished a single campaign yet. These games take FOREVER to f***ing finish.

Deus Ex Series
The first game I didn't really get into. The second game I really enjoyed the bit I played, but my Alienware kept dying on me when I tried to play this game, so I just never got around to finishing it.

FEAR
Started playing it a few times, but my Alienware kept dying on me before I finished it. I would always have to format the hard drive, and so I'd lose all my progress. I hate that Alienware with a vengeance.

Maybe also because GTA4 doesn't do anything you haven't already done to death in the last three games, gives you less things to do in fact. The story in San Andreas was pretty lame too, but I didn't care because there were so many fun things to do. Oh, I forgot, you get get to duck now. Wow, that's enough to hold my interest.

You might be on to something. I guess if the same stuff I did in the other GTAs was polished in GTA4, then it would hold my attention longer. Unfortunately, it seems less polished, especially the motorcycle controls.

The most enjoyable, non-story or side mission related thing I liked doing in San Andreas was driving from city to city on a crotch rocket while listening to the in-game music. I don't think I ever went through all the cities w/o wrecking at least once. On GTA4, I can't make two turns on a bike w/o wanting to drive a car instead. :(

I wouldn't be surprised if anyone trades in their copy for either MGS4 or Ninja Gaiden 2. I also wouldn't be surprised if anyone decides to just shelf the game for a while, and let the disappointment wear off before they play it again.

PSHH, I'm already there, man. I haven't played it since the last time we went online, except to show someone who hadn't seen the game yet, and that was only to cause some wreckage in the city. It's Niko, I think. i just don't like him at all. This might actually be the first game I've ever played that I can't stomach the main guy so much that I don't want to see the story. It took 15 hours of playing 4 to get to the level of almost-boredom where I only will run around the city, avoiding missions and just screwing around, when it took me 50 hours to get there in SA.

I've actually finally got some games off this list, but I've still got a bunch. My top ten would be.

1. Uncharted - Bought this game in November. Didn't start playing it until last night...

2. Assasin's Creed - Like the previous, but I put a good one or two hours into it as least.

3. Bioshock - refer to #1

4. Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces - refer to #1

5. Gungrave: Overdose - I know I'm like an hour away from beating it. We'll see.

6. Max Payne 2 - Put some work into this title. I need to finish it.

7. Jade Empire - refer to #1

8. Fable - Put maybe 40 minutes into it. Got this while in the Navy, haven't picked it up since.

9. Zelda: Windwaker, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess - Own all of them, have yet to beat one of them. Haven't even touched Twighlight Princess.

10. The rest of my Gamecube games, Killer7, Skies of Acadia, Tales of Symphonia, SSMB, Both Metroid Primes, FF: Crystal Chronicles (that's a great game btw if you have four people), and PNO3.

I would've put Star Ocean 3 on this list, but of all the games on this list I've put the most hours into that one and I just was not compelled to finish it.

There doesn't seem to be much of a main story (or motivation) Niko besides wanting to get paid to do stuff. If there is more, it's taking too long to get there, and more importantly, to get interesting. Maybe Rockstar is just too full of themselves nowadays.

Too bad GTA4 hasn't kept my interest. At the beginning of the year, the thought of a GTA4, MGS4, NG2 game rotation seemed too good to be true.

4. COD4 single player (PS3)
Played 27 hours of online multiplayer but never played the single player.

That's weird.

5. Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Never finished it. Some other game must have distracted me.

Yeah, probably like any and every other game ever made.

4. Ninja Gaiden - Dragon Sword

Alright, who said this was a great idea? This sucks. What is this supposed to be, like, therapy or something? 'Get things out in the open and then somehow feel better about yourself'? I've got a million games that I haven't played or finished. And I feel lousy about all of them.

First there are the games that I've bought but have never played. I mean never even touched. Some of these might still be in the plastic even. Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusader's; Full Spectrum Warrior; The Bard's Tale (2004); Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone; DiRT; Forza 2... oh the shame. But my bottom five for this type would be:

5. Psychonauts - Yeah all of you game critics - especially you Play magazine - I feel bad for never playing it. You don't have to say anything alright! But hey, at least I bought the game right? Yeah... good for me.

4. Homeworld - I talked about wanting to get into it. And... well.. we used to have a poster come around here - particularly in the PC forums - who even mailed me the strat guide and all kinds of other great stuff for the game. Photoasylum. (Seriously, thank you bud from the bottom of my heart - wherever you are at.) And yet I've still never even gotten around to installing it. I feel like a fracking azzh0le. Yeah, great thread!

3. Indigo Prophecy - Man, I swear I have been so close to starting up this game. As recently as this year even. But alas, I still have not. I do not know what the hang up is.

2. Kameo - This was one of the first two games I bought for my 360. Every year I say I'm going to play it, and every year goes by where I didn't. At first I used to say it was because I wanted to devote myself wholly to it and not be interrupted by anything. Now, I don't know what my fracking problem is.

1. Jade Empire - I bought this game the day it came out. Made a big deal of it too. Six months later it dropped down to twenty bucks. Now you can find it in the used bin for like five bucks. I paid $50+ for it on day one.

Then there's the games I started but have never finished. Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks; Rainbow Six 3; Eternal Darkness; Jet Set Radio Future; I-Ninja; Morrowind; Disgaea; and so many racing games... Need For Speed Most Wanted; Midnight Club III DUB Edition; Forza; Test Drive Unlimited...

A bottom six for you:

6. Viva Pinata - Is there really any finishing this game? Regardless, I put it on here, and put it on here so high because I was cruising along with it one weekend, and enjoying it immensely, then all of a sudden, bam!, it's been four months since I last played it.

5. Amped 3 - I like it, I want to finish it, but it's so hard to find the time for it. First, because it's a snow boarding game it doesn't appeal to me in the spring and summer months. But then come winter, I get in a mode where I'm trying to finish the current year's games, and then it's suddenly late winter and I'm sick of winter and don't want anything to do with snow!

4. Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War - I put dozens of hours into the online multi-player portions, but have never finished the sp campaign. I'm gonna be honest with you: the game scares the crap out of me. Or it did at the time. I've come a long ways since then so we'll see. My goal is to play it - and finish it - this upcoming Halloween season; it's priority number one.

3. Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - To be fair, I think the reasons for me not finishing it are due to circumstances beyond my control (so to speak) more than anything else. But the strong desire to get to it as soon as I possibly can remains.

2. Xenosaga - Culdcept of all games has stoked the fire and desire to finally finish this game. I will. I will get to it as soon as I'm done with OB64. This I swear!

1. .... - Why am I admitting that I haven't finished this game? I mean, this is beyond shameful. This is bs. I don't have to tell you anything. 'Oh but it's therapeutic'. The frack it is! What's therapeutic about admitting to everyone that I have never finished Fable?! Hah?! Ah... shift. Hey man, a lot of people/critics were complaining about how short the game is. I'd say I've probably put 25-30 hours into it - which is way more than a lot of you - and I wasn't really close to finishing it yet. Of course I haven't played it in years either. I got seriously sidetracked in the game. Playing drinking games, kicking chickens, chasing after women... I GTA'ed it and forgot what I was supposed to be doing. I want to finish it; it's something that's hanging over my head, but I think I'm going to have to start all over from scratch.

And then there are the game's that I can't finish; the games that I can't beat, or am stuck on. Like: the Contra's (except Neo Contra); Ikaruga; Ninja Gaiden (Xbox); The Bard's Tale (1987); Time Crisis III; Gauntlet Legends; Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (console versions)... and...

...Hey, if I can admit that I haven't finished Fable than I can admit that I haven't beaten Bowzer. That's right, I have never beaten Super Mario Bros. I. Am. Ashamed.

Thanks Five.

-I'm shocked that Glock has still not played Jade Empire. I've had it 3 different times: The Limited Edition for $50 that I finished, a "new" regular version for $14.99, and I stumbled upon a new in plastic version at K-Mart for $10 that I haven't played much of. I forgot why I got rid if the "new" version, but the LE version went bye-bye when my Xbox went kaput and there was no word on what was backwards compatible.

* "New" means that it wasn't in plastic at Gamestop, but like a dummy I bought it anyway since I wanted the game again.

-I never finished Morrowind, either. I GTA'ed on that game, big time. I went to Mournhold and was doing missions there instead of even arriving at the guys house that is the first mission of the main story.

-I'm making it my mission to finish God of War II before Wednesday afternoon/evening, or whenever I make the trip to get Ninja Gaiden II.

-I want to amend a game on my list, kind of. Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's the same game, but instead of the Wii version, it is now the Gamecube version. A day after I got rid of the Wii version, I see a brand new GC version for a pretty cheap price. I figured if this is my last Zelda title, I'd at least want to be able to play it more than 30 minutes at a time.

Glock, if you put your mind to it, you should be able to finish Fable in about 3 more hours. I am really weak gamer; I do not kick ass like Cuddly. If reviews say a game takes 20 hours to beat, it takes me forty. I beat Fable in less than fifteen, and I kicked a lot of chickens and had a lot of sex.

I have games like you that I haven't even played; I will usually at least OPEN a game that I'm saving for later because I'm already playing something, and play the first ten minutes, just because I'm curious to see what it looks like, but then for whatever reason, the games keep getting pushed to the back of the least. These particular games I think get pushed back because I want to start them when I have a LOT of freetime, but that never happens anymore.

Unplayed and sitting there on my game shelf: Steambot Chronicles, Persona 3, Disgaea, Fatal Frame 2, Trauma Center Wii, Devil May Cry.

Games I haven't finished? Wouldn't even know where to start. There are quite a few games I've just messed around with for 6-7hrs and gone "ok, I got the picture" and moved on.
