Just The Answer portion. I'm 20 hours in and I was expecting more story. So far it's just fighting and the occasional flashback after I beat a floor. So, does it get better or is it like this til the end?

its like that tip like almost the end. Before the final part you finish with the flashbacks, after that you get to a decent but almost contrived story section then the game is done. Overall extremely disapponting. It didn't help that persona fusion was nerfed due to lack of the compendium.

Its worth it just to see the real ending but really I just got mygameshark and hacked myself to max so I could breeze through it.

I was tempted to just watch the endings on youtube but I was 20 hours in at that point, so I decided to just go ahead and finish it but yeah it's just a severely scaled down dungeon crawl. :( If I wasn't so into the characters there's no way I'd finish it. Did you ever check out the anime?

The anime is utter crap IMO, but I couldn't get past episode 2. Maybe it got better after a dozen episodes, but I doubt it. It's still being subbed but I have crossed it off my list of things to watch. I am not even sure why they call the anime Persona, it's like it has absolutely squat to do with Persona 3 despite being set in the same world.

I only went through with Episode Aegis because as you said I truly loved the characters and wanted to see how it turned out. Mephis is actually a nice "addition" to the cast all things considered. But it really was nothing but a huge dungeon crawl and they would throw you a bone at the end of each segment (a crappy flashback), it was so disappointing I was expecting way, way more. In the end just watching the vids on the tube might be a good idea. What I did was uber-pump my party using Codebreaker and that let me literally just walk down the stairs straight to the bosses and beat them up to get to the next story part within minutes. I finished it in less than a day.

Extremely disappointed, but I was thinking of replaying the main game with FES because aside from getting new Personas you also get to have the Aegis S.Link which I wanted to max out. This time I'll play the game and cheat form the start and just have fun making the shadows piss their pants hehehhe.

LOL! Ah I wish I could that but I played on my PS3. I picked up DQ8 and Valkyrie Profile 2 and I'm anxious check those out, so I'll probably explore FES (and date Elizabeth) another time. Btw I'm at the 12th boss. How many til the end?

Too bad the anime sucked. I still might make an effort to dl it and see an episode for myself. But I'm kind of animed out. If it isn't just great it won't hold my attention anyway.

DQ8 is gonna take over your life. I put more than 130 hours into it. It is one of the very best JRPGs of all time, IMO. So much exploring to do.

btw, my two tvs say that they are displaying 1080i when the PS3 is upscaling PS2 games. I did not know they were upscaled that much. But it makes sense, since the PS2 had interlaced output. DQ8 looked great. I am playing Bombastic on it (an action/puzzler) and it's beautiful.

I have to get back to Valkyrie Profile 2. It's a good game but for some reason I ended up not playing it. I think it's because I bought an HDTV at the time and it made all my PS2 games look like crap.

Elizabeth yummy.

12th boss? Well you have something like 7 doors to go through, and each door has like 3 bosses, so I guess you're 1/3rd of the way through.

Yeah that's why I play all my PS2 games on it. PS2 games and dvds look great. Next to my dvd player there's just no comparison.

I was actually looking for Mario Kart and Mana Khemia (of which Gamestop had neither) so I opted for DQ8 and VP2 instead.

Doh! I must've counted wrong. The last bosses I fought were the 3 (red, black and white) samuari. I went through the very last door and I'm at the bottom of the Abyss of Time, and I fought my shadow self once "main character from previous game" but I died. So, I fought 21 bosses? Damn. Well I was sorta playing the game halfass paying attention, since there's really no story.

I said f'k it.

I was in the fight with Junpei and Koromaru.

1st fight, Koro hits me with fear. I'm paralyzed with fear for 3 rounds and die.

2nd Fight, Koro hits me with Mudoon his very first attack and kills me.

3rd fight, I had Junpei beaten and Koro down to probably less than 100 HP. I couldn't even see his bar. He casts Mudoon and kills me. I had Lilith (I think) who is immune but it wasn't always convenient to have her equipped.

I was lvl 75 so I could've gone back and grinded it out some but that's a big peeve of mine. To me that's how devs deal with an imbalanced game. If I'm strong enough to get to the boss, I should be strong enough to beat it. So it's hardly worth the effort at this point. I just watched the ending on youtube.

hehe, you were close at least, but as much as I loved the Journey part Episode Aegis was just one big boring dungeon grind.

It was nice how they wrapped it up. That was a pretty long ending, almost 30 minutes.

I've since cracked open DQ8 and I had forgotten how unforgiving DQ games were and how painful it was leveling up. But it is really addictive. I haven't been able to put it down.

It was pretty painful, considering I was 2 fights away from the end. :p I had the same experience with Grandia Extreme. It's a great battle system but it doesn't stand on its own without the other stuff that makes an rpg great.

Agreed. I couldn't stand playing Grandia Extreme even though I loved Grandia 1-3. JRPGs cannot live on hack and slash alone, it seems.
