I remember close to 2 years ago posting how this site was dying well today i came upon the most awe inspiring review ive ever laid my eyes on.You know i probably have the worst grammar out of anyone on this board but even i can put more thought into a review then this.Does anyone even bother to check and see if a review is atleast thought out?I so miss the old days when aku, mochan and sbs even know hes a prick wrote some really good reviews.Because of them ive gotten some really good games i wouldnt have normally have gotten but with the thought put into there reviews id pick them up and never once was let down.comon someone needs to start looking at some of these ridiculous reviews and deleting the hell out of them this is turning into a massive joke.feast your eyes upon greatness people
Summary
this game is aload of rubbish and should not be on sale it is an expansion pack wow and is very rbbish i give this expansion pack for wow -10/10 so all u wow fans this is rubbish
Strength
the strenghs are that it is gay
Weakness
every think
that makes me want to run out and get this game what a freakin joke
"Does anyone even bother to check and see if a review is atleast thought out?"
The short answer is no.
I used to check reviews daily when I worked for the site. I'd pick review of the day and did my best to choose the winner/s for the contests.
I doubt anyone is watching the reviews often, or at all. My guess is the review of the day is somehow automatically picked by the program that runs the site. What triggers the choice is a mystery to me.

Ooh, ooh! Let me do it!! It probably wouldn't be every day, but i would definitely weed out all the craptacular reviews that plague this area. I've seen many like the one Bane posted. I don't care about being able to choose the Rev of day, but I could help whe it comes to browsing reviews for moments like the above mentioned to be deleted.
LOL @ "every think". That's instant classic!
Every once in awhile someone brings this subject up again, I guess it's an opportunity to vent. This site's been dead for years now, only the forums live on. It's run by mysterious men in black who count the money given to them by stupid advertisers who don't realize that 97 percent of the hits here, the people take one look and leave. Totally useless site outside of the forums. I guess you could send a letter to the advertisers and let them know that they're wasting there money. Maybe it will put the final nail in the coffin of VGR. But that wouldn't really accomplish anything other than take the forums away too, so you're better off just waxing nostalgiac for the old pcgamereview and reading the many (some well-written) customer reviews of games over on Amazon.

LOL it makes me want to cry that my previous work on this site can be "matched" by something like that.

Well forums are a dime a dozen i wish this site would go back to the way things were.Use to have a news section that members could post and respond to.The reviews back in the day were on the whole pretty well thought out.I remember one of the guys who runs this site over a year ago said he would listen to us and work on fixing the site up but he hasnt even touched it.We gave him ideas and he dissapears. This site has turned into nothing but a virtual billboard.
This site has turned into nothing but a virtual billboard.
Which is why I don't use this site at all, it's a waste of time.
Here's a bit from a thread in October 2003. This is the way this site used to be...
http://www.pcgamereview.com/PRD_155159_1451crx.aspx
I was looking forward to a 27,000 character behemoth as well! ;)
*edit* Okay, scratch that. In the time between me clicking on it and creating this thread, it seems to have been fixed. Anyway, I'm off to read the FULL version! :)</div>
Aku and I are on the same page about this. I'm hoping it looks okay now, if not we will both be making sure it gets posted correctly. He had written a review of over 5000 characters per section. I had to add what was truncated. It was my mistake where some text was added in. So I'm waiting for the word from him to see if it looks right now.

Yeah, I'd say this site is a mere shadow of its former self. Hell, some would say that PC gaming is a shadow of its former self, but that's a topic worthy of its own thread. I used to write a lot of reviews back in the day. I don't spend nearly as much time gaming as I used to, but when I'm deciding whether or not to buy a game I usually look at reviews on Amazon.com. I much prefer well written consumer reviews to professional ones, and I miss the days when this site was a wellspring of good reviews.
Professional reviewers tend to hype everything. Take "Sins of a Solar Empire." The way some reviewers blathered on, you'd think this game was the second coming. I've been playing it - it seems like a nice strategy game, but it's hardly the religous experience you might expect after reading reviews on MetaCritic. It was the gamer-written reviews on Amazon.com that let me approach 'Sins' with more realistic expectations.
BTW, whatever happened to the gamer/curmudgeon known as Suicides-by-Steve? I see posts by some old-timers, but nothing from him....

welcome back old timer! how many years has it been?
SBS was banned last year i think after a spate of mini tantrums on a thread about Saddam Hussein. the last straw was an attack on ET if i remember.. a fun read if you find it nonetheless
it was also this forums last hurrah to be honest

My heydey of PC gaming (and posting on pcgr.com) was in 2000-2001. I got less into gaming after 9/11; I wrote some occasional reviews of indy games and older titles for a while than drifted away. I couldn't really afford PC Gaming as a hobby at that point.
I recently got a Dell XPS 210, and have been rediscovering gaming as a result. I probably never should have gotten Vista, however.:mad2: I recently finished Vampire:Bloodlines and just got Jade Empire from Steam. I've also been expirimenting with Sins of a Solar Empire, a game that takes a while to get used too.
I'll look for that Sadaam thread. I used to agree with SbS about most political issues - we were both pretty left wing (unusual for PC gamers, I know) - but I tried to express myself in a more, uh, subtle manner.
It was a big blowout between me and SBS that lead to his leaving. Take a look at Bane's signature, lol. I saw SBS on WoW a month ago and started talking to him but he wasn't being very social. :)

Well sbs was a prick plain and simple.I can be hard to deal with from time to time myself but atleast i can distinguish reality from fantasy unlike him.He also got banned from some neverwinter night persistant world forum for acting like a moron.

I always had issues with SbS, some people might remember the time we were into a huge debate over game design (it was a thread about game ideas and how we wanted developers to go here, read up and steal ideas) and I started cross-posting his old posts to prove him wrong, then he did the same, and it became a huge mess. I recall Lara and Hieremias I think even stepped in.
We really just never agreed on things and he would always call me out as a worthless pirate despite the fact that he always got games for free himself (if not through normal piracy by getting his hands on copies from friends or from the library or things like that). We simply had totally opposite views. Bane and I more or less tend to be on the same page with many things and Mike was always on the opposite end, or would somehow end up on the opposite end; he was always very disagreeable, which isn't necessarily bad (I do that a lot, too) but sometimes you have to wonder.
But whatever I'm not one to hold a grudge. But reading through those old posts is classic, man. Bane and I had some opposing views there in the Saddam thread heheheh.

Wow, that was one psychotic flamewar. Sort of what might happen if you locked Ann Coulter and Michael Moore in a room together.
So, anyone else playing Sins? That game sure could have used an advisor like in the Total War games. I'm a veteran strategy gamer, and I'm having a tough time getting the hang of things. I'll probably stick with it for a while, since I love sci-fi strategy gaming. Speaking of which, what is the latest on Starcraft 2?

Wow, can't believe I just read that entire thread. Wow. That was some intense sh** haha. I think that's probably the most interesting thread on VGR. That and this one (http://forums.videogamereview.com/showthread.php?t=8107).

Yeah and the thing is, Superfly, there are posts in that thread that were removed by the moderators. Personally, I think it would have made the thread even more entertaining if they had been left in (plus a little easier to understand the context for some later replies).

Wow, SbS got banned just for a measly comment like that? Ouch. Harsh, considering VGR members call each other far worse in SW.
But anyways, you all are a bunch of dweebs. I've seen worse threads though, like the ones with TTGM(Triforce, for those not in the know), trying to "rally up the troops". Lame sauce.
Yeah, but you didn't see the stuff that got deleted, lol.

that wasnt even the thread he got banned for.i should have been banned to ill admitt, but what sbs got banned for i believe was when ET made a thread and sbs out of knowhere started acting like a twit to him.Worst one though was telling aku the world would be a better place if he walked down his street and got hit by a car and died or something like that. The dude has mental issues.i use to get along with the guy played some games online with him and everything, but that was the last straw for me the guy pissed me off on numerous occasions but i always let it go because he was a long time member here and he was pretty knowledgable about certain things, however telling someone they hope they die is going to far.

Let's see if I remember the sig. It's something like, "If we're lucky, Aku, you will die a oh so horrible death while walking down the street, you pathetic little worm.", or something like that. I always thought that was a cool sig, and wondered what was the reason he posted that.
Was he the one with the Buttface for an avatar?
No, the buttface avatar was another guy. Ilnadmy posted a link to the thread SBS got banned for, Bane. It was funny because it was so anticlimactic.

Yeah been playing Sins, an advisor would have helped spice things up and give a more cinematic feel to the fights. The graphics are too small usually like MOO3 was and it's often hard to tell what is going on in a big confrontation, an advisor telling you the enemy general got slain or some such would have been a nice touch.
I've more or less got the game's basics down after 2 games. I'm not very good at it but I know how everything works -- guess I'm just good at picking up how game mechanics work, must be from decades of never reading game mauals.
Star Craft 2, we don't even have a release date yet, we really don't know much about it.
