I am looking for some good two player CO-OP games.
Not games where there is a seperate 2 player mode where nothing gets unlocked and/or no game progresion can be accomplished in 2 player mode.
I would like a game or games where two players actually work together to beat the game or the stages at the same time.... playing TOGETHER and not against each other.
The only examples I have to reference to in my current libary is perhaps Tekken Tag in Pair Play Mode and Dynasty Warriors 4.
Me and my wife love the pair play mode in Tekken Tag and Dynasty Warriors 4 is a blast with 2 players..
Also another example i could give (although no stages or game progression could be done, but two players could play against the computer and it was fun as all get out) is Bad Fur Day for the N64.
Unfortunatly with the PS2 Fur Fighters, multi-players are set against each other and can not be configured where both players work as a team against the computer. Makes me sad as the only reason i bought the game was an assumption it would have a mode similar to the muliplayer mode in the N64 incarnation. Guess what they say about assuming things is true. :(
Any kind sould out there have a few games he or she could recommend that might fit the bill?
Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any replies. :)
PS... I have heard Time Crisis 3 fits the description I am looking for, but I am not sure if it does or not. I am unsue if both players play at the same time or it is a turn-based 2 player.
Also... RPGs don't count... my wife won't play rpgs. :(

What's the misses got against RPGs? Tenchu 3 has co-op play that's pretty cool.

Went looking around a bit and.....
The new Lord of the Ring: Return of the King game looks like it's is going to have a two-player co-op mode similar to DW4. :)
Half-Life on PS2 seems to have a decent co-op mode from the reviews I have read and right now it's selling at a rock bottom price which fits my budget nicely.
Also, I will check out Tenchu 3 with a rent and see what's up.
Can't wait to see what's up with the new LoR:RoK. Hope it turns out to be awesome.
Me and the lady where just at the rental store last night and noticed none of the previous LoR games had co-op modes. I am very glad they decieded to put one in the last installment of the series.
Could be cool with all the swarming Orcs and Goblins everywhere..... *wheeeeee!*

I don't know why she's not into them. I think RPGs are just a lil too long and complicated for her (and me too I guess, *blush*) somtimes.....
With work and school it is hard to remeber where you left off if you can't play the game for a few weeks.
If their was a good cross between an RPG and a fighting game such as Dynasty Warriors that we knew of we would probablly play it, but finding a good game that fits your gaming style can be such a pain and a hit on the wallet too.

Hmm... you MIGHT give Baulder's Gate Dark Alliance a try if she doesn't have a fit if you bring home an RPG. :) It's an action oriented RPG with adjustable difficulty levels. It's a greatest hits title so you should be able to find it for $20 or less. And it's a short title. I beat it in 17 hours, and some I talked to said they blew threw it in less than 7. There is a story but you can bypass the cutscenes if youre not interested, although, sometimes you have to make choices during conversations with other characters. Co op is highly encouraged.
Oh yeah there's Gauntlet. Its an RPG too but it has little story and lots of action. But the fun of this game was playing it in the arcade. It loses its thrill without the threat of having to put in another quarter if you die. But for button smashing co-op fun its not bad for a rental. I think she'll like Baulder's Gate, but if she doesnt you can just point the finger at the stupid guy on the message board. :p

Yes, Time Crisis 3 fits the description.
And - if I may be so bold - it is exactly what you're looking for!!!
It is an AWESOME game!
But... I have only played it single-player, thus far.
A couple of things that you should know about TC3 then:
1) The light gun - the "GunCon 2" - will not work on LCD monitors or projection tv's.
2) Without the GC2... forget about it. I mean, yeah, the game is still a good game, but if you're using a regular PS2 controller you are not going to think that.
3) TC3 does not work with the GC1 (the original GunCon "1").
4) TC3 is sold two ways: one way is to buy the game only, for $49.99 (U.S.); or the other way is to buy it bundled with a GC2 for $59.99*.
5) Two-player cooperative mode is split screen (vertically). But, the game does support system link - so if you've got two PS2's and two tv's that you can hookup together, then each player can play on their own screen.
6) The GC2 is not hard to hook up at all - but if your PS2 is plugged into the back of your tv then it might entail a little "heavy lifting". Here is detailed walkthru of the process... however, you have to know that this will read much harder, and appear to be more complicated, then it really is:
- What you have to do is unplug the yellow (video) rca jack coming from your PS2, to the back of your tv, into one end of an External Cable (supplied)...
- which is then "re"-plugged back into the tv (while the other end ultimately connects to the light gun). Don't worry, this cord/cable is plenty long enough to reach from behind your tv to the front of your PS2.
- And this is where the other end "ends up" because the light gun must also plug into the PS2 system itself (front USB port).
- Just as there are two USB ports on the front of the PS2 system, so too are there two plugs at this end of the External Cable, for two GC2's!
- The GunCon2's cord length is about 7 feet. Which is good enough, I think. (Could have been better - but still, long enough).
- You never have to unplug this connection - but you you should be aware that this bridged connection is not as... solid... as a direct connection. All you have to do is detach the GC2 and tuck the External Cable "away".
* = GunCon2's are sold seperately for, around, $29.99.
Now, a word about the GC2... AWESOME!
Yes, I will agree that it doesn't look like much - all molded in one ugly color - but it is well constructed. (Though not well labeled. Like I said everything is all the same color - including the "embossed" letters and words that "identify" the guns buttons.) And everything has a nice, responsive, feel to it. And, the buttons are well placed. Particularly the "Thumbcon" button (or d-pad), which is a crucial button for TC3 gameplay.
Like I said, TimeCrisis 3 is an awesome game - single player (I still can't you anything about the co-op mode :p ). Better than the arcade even!!! I cannot tell how fun it is to have that real-life arcade experience in your own family room! The only thing that I can see wrong this game... is that my arm(s) sometimes get tired! :D
I'm trying to break away from grading games on a 1-10 grading scale, but TC3 deserves to be recognized and I've got to tell you... I'm giving it the highest score I've ever graded a game at... EVER... a 9.9 !

Read up on some reviews...
Baldurs Gate is definatly on my list to buy now.
From the reviews it sounds like a great mix between an RPG and a fighting game.
I think the lady will like the hack-n-slash of BG over the stealth killing of Tenchu 3 and BG sounds like it has a stornger co-op mode.
-----------------------
Gonna pick up Time Crisis 3.... thought it sounded cool too and glad to see others liked it. Now it is for sure going in the shopping cart ASAP.
I also want to pick up Starsky and Hutch and give it a try when I can.....
Co-op mode sounds cool with one player driving and the second shooting..... it is also compatiable with the Guncon so the 2 player co-op might be really interesting. Plus I remember watching the show as a kid. :)

Contra:Shattered Soldier is an excellent co-op game, but it's the hardest you'll ever play.

Damn... I remeber playing the first Contra game for NES.
It was as hard as all get out too, even in two-player co-op mode.
We played that game for hours.
Guess the new one i's on my list too then.
I just hope my controler can take the punishment.
Hard games = thrown controller.

Yep, I suggest Balder's Gate: Dark Alliance. I've played that game 4 times with 4 different people.
Timesplitters 2 is also a good co-op game...though I don't know many girls who play FPS games.

So many good games that I want......
So many good games that I want and are soon to be relased......
So small a budget!!!!!!!! :(
There seems to be ALOT of good games out there.
Didn't use to be that way.
Back in the day 90% of games sucked major ass and were not worth buying.
This change in the market is AWESOME!
Seems like now only about 40% to 50% of games are not worth owning.
Could be wrong, but there are a hell of alot of good games out there.

True, my wife doesn't really like to play FPS either.
Perhaps though with a good co-op mode I could get her to break the FPS barrier.
Between Half-Life and Timesplitters 2, maybe I can succed. :)

I actually had fun playing Gauntlet as a co-op game (actually up to 4 players I believe). I've played many co-op games, like the Buffy game, and this is the only game where it seemed easy for both players to keep up their stats, as well as fully be able to see how each player was playing ... if that makes sense.
I use to play Gauntlet back in the stand-up coin-op video games and loved it then so I had to pick it up for my PS2. What I hate now is that it won't play in my PS2 anymore ... it makes this weird scratching sound.
