I've been through a lot of mmorpgs, most of them decent. AC, AC2, DAOC, WOW, Ultima, EQ, COV but this one is fun for some reason that I've yet to fully understand. I think mostly because there is no loot hording, no real progressive crafting, no banks, no storage, no housing, no mounts, no massive raid content, no pvp rewards, no huge selection of armor and weapons, no personalized attributes, sounds like a depressing game doesn't it?
Well it's not, Pirates of the Carribean Online is actually charming in its elementary execution focusing on running around, goofing off, doing a few quests here and there, playing some poker and blackjack, teaming up and hitting the high seas with your friends for some old fashioned pillaging. The game is silly and it's fun. You can buy items to differentiate your character but they cost a small fortune which cracks me up because they do nothing other than make you look different.
The first thing I thought about was I don't know how long this game will hold my attention but I'm going to keep an open mind and see what happens. Funny thing is, I was having fun with it without really thinking about the fact that I was having fun with it. Then it struck me the other night--this game is actually a helluva lot of fun. I'm not trying to sell anyone on anything but justed wanted to pass on that it's 4.95 for the first month, 9.95 for two months. So basically for $15 you get two months of uninterrupted service and there is NO box to buy. It's a free download. It's at www.piratesonline.com.
