I attended the Midwest Gaming Classic for the first time last weekend. It was only a short drive from where I live so how could I turn it down? For only $10, I enjoyed quite a good time.
There was a couple different areas at this years event. Not counting the outside smoking areas of course. There was one area with a multitude of vendors selling many rare and classic items. Another area was a museum dedicated to displaying every console, computer, and handheld gaming device ever made. Most were even playable. And last but not least, there was a huge area full of classic pinball machines and arcade cabinets open and free of charge to play. With this being the MGC, the main emphasis in the arcade/pinball area were the classics. Pinball machines dating back to the earlier models were present and playable. Within the gaming area, there was also a couple tournaments including Halo 3 and Guitar Hero including the man himself, Walter Day as referee (anyone see the King of Kong? Great flick!).
I started in the first area closest to the registration table; the vendor/sales room. There was so many cool items for purchase that I can't barely begin to list it all. But here's a list anyway. An abbreviated one.
-Games for almost every console imaginable especially NES, SNES, Dreamcast, Saturn & PS2.
-Consoles, controllers, guitar hero guitars, the Steel Battalion controller and game
-Import games for every console
-Plush toys and other imported videogame memorbilia. My favorite were the Animal Crossing toys. Oh, and the DOA mugs with bulging breats (they literally stuck out off of the mug) was also pretty sweet. And lots of Mario action figures.
-Arcade cabinets for sale
-Pinball machines for sale (both mainly classic games)
-Pinball parts, pieces, raw tables, back drops, etc..
Team Fremont and VGO EVO were also present. If you don't know, there are quite a good couple podcasts coming from those groups (including Playstation Nation - one of my faves).
Spent a few hours at the show and wish I would have stayed much longer. I'll be back again next year and can't wait until that time comes.
