Well you need to buy an (otherwise useless) broadband network adapter. Then plug an Ethernet cord into your Gamecube and you're ready to rock. The only problem is you then must find a friend who also has bought a broadband network adapter, has a GCN and a Mario Kart: Double Dash!! game disk. Now I have several Ethernet cords just lying around that I can use. But I can't see any logic in buying a $40 network adapter for the sole purpose of playing 8 player Mario Kart. Let alone the fact that all my friends who own a Gamecube do NOT have a broadband adapter either. If you actually do have the resources to do this please enjoy it for me. I'm sure that 8-player Mario Kart is just plain silly fun.
But if you honestly bought 2 Gamecubes for this purpose Alli, then obviously money is no issue so buy 2 Gamecube broadband network adapters, an Ethernet cord and 2 copies of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! And don't forget to let us know how much fun you have. BTW if you have a money tree growing in your backyard (which it sounds like you do) you should go buy 2 more Gamecubes and you can play some 16 player Mario Kart! It could possibly be the ultimate video gaming experience you've ever had.

One end of the Ethernet cord just plugs into your broadband adapter (which is in turn connected to your Gamecube). In theory this allows you to "network" your Gamecube to anything the other side of the Ethernet cord is plugged into. Networking your Gamecube to another Gamecube to play multiplayer games is the intended use of this feature. You can also "network" your Gamecube to your PC which gives you lots of interesting possibilities. One of which is playing Super Mario Kart: Double Dash!! "online" through a server on the internet.
However back to the question at hand.
1. You can purchase an Ethernet cord at any major computer or office supply store. I would try Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart or Office Depot.
2. You only need 1 cord Ethernet cable for you to play 8-player Mario Kart with both of your Gamecubes. However from what I understand you can play up to 16-player Mario Kart with 4 Gamecubes. You would need 1 more Ethernet cord for each additional Gamecube you want to add to your network.
3. Well it really depends on the length of the cord you want to get. I would imagine the price would be around $20.00.
I hope this helps you. Here are some websites that may help further clarify the networking ability of the Gamecube:
