View Full Version : Gaming Anonymous -- Your 100+ hour games(SW Edition)

So I've taken to listening to new and old episodes of the Games For Windows (GFW) Radio (http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3148397) lately because I needed something to listen to while playing a windowed Puzzle Quest at night and I found out that podcasts fit the bill brilliantly. Eventually I came across an episode where Ryan was talking about how he was getting grief after making a negative blog post on some end-game aspect of Guild Wars (where he has logged more than 600 hours of playtime). Nothing surprising so far, but the guy he was getting flak from had some 5000+ hours of playtime logged into the game.
Wow.
Eating breakfast earlier today I was trying to think of all the games where I've played for over 100 hours--games that I can say I was or am addicted to. It was mostly interesting to me since I don't play MMORPGs, but I wanted to see what everyone's 100+ hour games were (and how much or how little games meet that criteria for you guys). So what games over the years have sucked you in to that level? Here's what I could come up with:
PS -- Don't just drop a list of games, gimme some details to go with it, dammit.
Final Fantasy 3/VI
Most of my other entries rely on a type of guesswork when it comes to answering the question if I had indeed logged more than 100 hours into. But FFVI had a counter, and I wore my maxed out 99:99 clock like a badge of pride way back when. I've probably played through the game 3 or 4 times in its entirety to boot. Though it wasn't my first RPG--that'd probably go to Dragon Warrior--it was the first one I'd gotten truly addicted to. I'd try to max out my stats by leveling up with the various stat-increasing espers and wasn't content until everyone had every spell and was at level 99 (a feat made very easy with an Exp Egg, Atma Weapon, and a few dozen fights with those Tyrannosaurs). Just last year I saw a friend playing this on an emulator fighting some bandit in a cave and instantly remarked, "You can steal bandannas from these guys." I could damn near tell him what he could steal from every enemy in the area.
Oh yeah, this was back in the days of Game Genie... And the game genie book had a few codes that let you start out the game with different weapons/armor, but it only had a few codes for it. Me and a friend actually sat through that long intro hundreds of times making an extensive list that slightly modified that code and let you start out with different gear.
Quake 2
Now my first FPSes were actually Wolfenstein 3D, Blake Stone, Spear of Destiny, etc. And I've played a good number of hours of Doom and Duke, too. But it wasn't until Quake 2 where I would first became truly addicted to an FPS. I logged onto Mplayer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mplayer.com) almost daily to DM on Edge or Tokays, I joined my first and only clan, created autoexecs and tweaked my configs and binds, and I became very good at Quake 2 in general. I mastered strafe jumping, trick jumping, rocket jumping, rail gun sniping, and I could even time the spawns of the armors and mega-healths in my head throughout the match. I've never been as good at a multiplayer game since and still to this day my friends refuse to play Quake 2 at LANs when I'm present.
TFC
After Mplayer died and I refused to play on Gamespy, I really had no where else to turn to. And really part of my addiction to Quake 2, as it turns out, was this mutual addiction I had with Mplayer so after its demise I largely fell out of the loop with Quake 2. I eventually found my way into TFC which answered my multiplayer FPS addiction and even expanded on the gameplay with new classes, strategies, etc. I eventually morphed into one of those damn super medics, but I grew bored with TFC and all the spam--I eventually couldn't stand 2fort and still can't in TF2. Fortunately TFC had a little-played map/mode called Hunted and there were a handful of 24/7 hunted servers which I played on for months.
Natural Selection
I love SciFi horror a la Alien, Aliens, The Thing, even Event Horizon truth be told. So when a friend told me to check out this beta of NS and described it as a StarCraftian alien vs marine deathmatch I was sold. But there was a complexity to NS that I hadn't encountered before in FPSes in that it was an FPS/RTS hybrid. There was so much to try out and become proficient in: LMG marine, HMG, heavy armor, jetpack, skulk, fade, onos, commander, gorge, etc! Even my playstyle varied over time from useless newbie, to useless commander, to useful marine, to "Is that guy using a wall-hack?" marine, to "OMG I almost crapped myself" skulk, to tide-turning gorge, to Rambo gorge-hunting maniac. Ironically once they patched out a lot of glitches/exploits from the beta, my enjoyment diminished in the game. Eventually rampant scripting skulks/fades made the game take a turn for the worse and I bailed on the game. But I still look forward to NS 2.
Morrowind
Perhaps my first open-ended RPG. I really don't need to explain how the game sucked up 100+ hours of my time, but it basically boils down to a huge environment to play around in, a lot of different classes and playstyles to try, and an unlimited supply of user created mods to tinker around with. I probably didn't play Morrowind for much longer than 100 hours before getting burned out, but I do know that I messed around with it for months and still didn't try out everything even the unmodded game had to offer.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
I had almost thought I'd retired from online FPS games before this game, but a few friends on a gaming forum wanted to get together and they found ET attractive because it ran well on most machines and was free. That was enough for me to play around with them and though I totally sucked when we played our match, I ended up becoming addicted to the game online. I attribute this game for markedly improving my aiming--especially with SMGs. Some days in TF2 I can't snipe to save my life, but when I pull out the automatic rifle suddenly I'm reliving my ET days and I can't not miss them. I turned out to be very good in ET, but the rambo medics, poor communities (at least amongst the servers with maps I liked and good pings), and other such crap really brought down the game to a level where I just wasn't enjoying it--no matter what my k/d ratio was.
TF2
I have STALKER to play, Gothic 3 and NWN2 to still try and play, Bloodlines, Rise of Legends, etc, all of these things I want to get around to yet when I'm playing them I usually end up thinking about TF2 and inevitably drop what I'm doing and go play that instead. Trying to beat my records in the game is addicting in itself--well it was until it got to the point where I can't really best them often anymore (my 49 point spree as an engineer was really a perfect storm kind of a event and though I've approached that as a sniper with 44, I don't know if I'll ever beat that unless they take out crits).
____________
I'm probably forgetting something, but that's the gist of my gaming addictions. I still find it strange that I don't really enjoy much SP FPS games these days and would even say I'm growing tired of the genre--but at the same time it's really become a sort of comfort zone for me over the years and I still get addicted to online play these days (see TF2). Contrasting this I dislike online RPGs and prefer their SP counterparts. Seems like these things should be backwards for me, but oh well.
Whew. So what were/are your gaming addictions?
I guess my first true hook was Descent 2. Then Quake 2 came along and I too enjoyed that and my first voodoo 2 card. After that in 99 I think I ran into Asheron's Call and was there for 2 years. That was my first mmo and I was hooked and logged a ton of hours in it.
I later moved back to single player games and Baulder's Gate and BG 2 come to mind. NwN next then Morrowind and then Guild Wars I logged a lot of hours completing the game. After GW I joined WoW with my brother and been in it since. I still only play there casually so I played through most of NwN2, Gothic 3 which I am back into now and I played a heck of a lot of Ravenshield with a group for a longtime. I probably have a ton of that logged online.

I only played WoW for more than 100 hours I believe. The next closest game would be Final Fantasy X, where I clocked in around 60 hours.
And yeah, Enemy Territory was freaking amazing. My first true online addiction. Unfortunately my pings were so freaking horrible that I had to retire my character. Too bad, I loved that game.

Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, Elder Scroll 3 and 4, Titan Quest and expansions, Silent Storm, Company Of Heroes, Civ IV, STALKER... Easily all over 100+ hours; not to mention the online gaming (GW, WOW etc.).

From last year, my 100+ hour games were:
Persona 3 - one of the few JRPGs that actually had me playing more than 100 hours, this game had the core SMT battle engine but placed in random dungeon generator and spliced with a day/night cycle of school life where you made friends with people in the neighborhood by day and killed monsters at night. Really addicting as tashi put it "Digital Crack is Back" and it's been a long time since I could apply that to a JRPG.
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions - although it's a remake the tactical combat and character creation and customization of this game is second to none, PERIOD. As the pinnacle of this genre there is really nothing else to play that can even touch this game at what it does. In fact, the greatest flaw of this game is that it's way too short, so back on the PS1 I must have replayed it at least 7 times just because it was too short. Its' telling that I played the original for more than 300+ hours or so all in all by my estimate, and when I got the remake on the PSP I *still* managed to login more than 100 hours into it.
Not sure if there were any other games I logged in a hundred hours or so from last year, there were lots of good games but I never played them for lengthy amounts of time like Call of Duty 4, etc. Even Stalker only hit about 80+ hours but that will change once I replay it.
Of all time, from different eras, these are some games that make the list easily:
Wing Commander 1 - dunno how often I played this but it was insane. This is the first time I ever really enjoyed a flight/space sim, and nothing has really come close since. The gameplay was addicting enough but combine that with the fully-branching campaign with multiple story outcomes and the rich character writing, this was clearly the best game of its time period and nothing even came close, hell even today many games don't even dare to replicate what WC1 managed to achieve, it would only be supplanted later on by a completley different game...
Civilization 2 - the game that knocked off Wing Commander from many gamer's addiction list, it can probably be called the greatest strategy game of all time. This game had the perfect balance of challenge, depth, complexity, and even humor and educational value. Not many games can claim to be "more than just a fun pasttime" and Civ was that, and a brief encyclopedic lesson in the development of mankind to boot! Replay value was infinite and the only games that ever came to par with it were its sequels, and only due to the modernization of graphics. Today TBS is out of vogue but the game still ate up a ton of my life.
Master of Orion 1 - Civilization in space. 'Nuff Said. But maybe not... this game had all the basic gameplay addictiveness of Civ but set in a sci-fi setting with galactic stakes, and an in-depth tactical combat map complete with ship building design. This game was gold.
UFO: Enemy Unknown - easily one of the best games ever, with infinite replay value as well as every game is different, the base tactical combat game was incredibly addicting, the atmosphere was incredibly engrossing and tense, but that wasn't all of it with tech research, base-building, resource management and RPG-like soldier improvement this game had it all.
Jagged Alliance 2 - JA1 was UFO in the Jungles, JA2 refined the formula and made it the definitive Jagged Alliance game that ate up my TBS gaming time like no other since UFO.
Action Quake - before Counterstrike, ther was Action Quake, and this is the game that turned me into a LAN addict. Quake 2 was fun but didn't grab my imagination, Action Quake with its team deathmatch gameplay was the first game to really snatch me away from my singleplayer world.
Counterstrike - fresh off the heels of my Action Quake addiction, Counterstrike came in force and became the most popular game to be played in LAN parties nationwide. Action Quake was the game that turned me into a multiplayer addict but this was the game that really fed my addiction.
Starcraft - Dune 2 was fun, but ultimately grew weary after time. Warcraft followed up and was Dune 2 with orcs and humans but never really made an impact on me. Then came along Starcraft which blew away the boundaries of the rather placid RTS genre with 3 fully-balanced, incredibly different factions and complex, breath-taking RTS gameplay that really created the blueprint for the modern RTS. Along with Counterstrike this was the only other
Diablo 2 was to Diablo 1 what Starcraft was to Warcraft. Diablo 1 felt too basic and simple, it was fun for a while but the basic Fighter/Mage/Ranger setup and simplistic point and click combat grew tiresome quickly. Enter Diablo 2 which refined the basic gameplay formula and heaped on all sorts of innovations AND 5 different character classes (not even counting the expansion) that each felt different enough from each other with special abilities and skills that allowed you to customize your character evenmore, it was addiction at first sight and oh yeah the multiplayer was good too.
R6 Rogue Spear - for the longest time Counterstrike ruled the LAN circles but there were gamers who wanted something with more substance, with a more deliberate approach to team shooters and Rogue Spear was that game. Who knows how many hours I wasted into this game, those hours got padded because of the fact that when you died you had to wait out the rest of the match -- and the matches can take long -- but I never felt impatient waiting it out.
Ghost Recon - this game was basically the successor of the Rainbow Six franchise and really brought tactical shooters to a whole new level. The wide open environments and convincing wilderness settings where a sniper could camp for hours was unprecedented at the time for a multiplayer shooter. Op Flashpoint was there but its multiplayer wasn't as convincingly tight as Ghost Recon's.
Suikoden 2 - must have played this game like 5 times and each play through takes about 40 hours.
Ugh so many more games to mention that I played for at least 100 hours (usually a lot more)
Tekken 3
Final Fantasy Tactics
Tactics Ogre
Star Control 2
Morrowind
Warlords 2
Ultima VII
The Sims 2
Fallout 2
Arcanum
Wizardry 8
Thief
Suikoden 3
Suikoden 5
But I'm sort of tired and there's more to the list actually, but I'll leave it at this for now.

well sadly, because i can only play when my parents aren't home :O, i have played very few games more than a hundred hours. Morrowind and Oblivion would probably fit the bill, but the only real game i played a lot is SWBF2, because it is the only game you can play with the sound off, for like 20 minutes at a time, constantly looking at the door to see if your parents are going to walk in. lol I find it hard to play games like oblivion or the witcher for small amounts of time with the sound off. I can only enjoy rpg's like that, or kotor if i can play for extended periods of time with all the comforts of gaming. For this sad reason i have put in 269 hours into SWBF2, which is not even a very good game. :(

lol. my parents want me to study i guess. and if i have done my hw like read or something. my mom thinks playing videogames is like stupid form of entertainment that is pointless so i shouldn't be doing it or something. i don't watch T.V either for that matter. :( oh well.
in that case when i go to college i can go on a gaming binge and make up lost time. LOL

I don't watch TV either, I think it's a waste of time. But I can't live without my games.

Now onto the System Wars rendition. Intangir, I hope you don't mind, because this is such a good thread for regular old Video Game discussion. I would like to hear others answers.
So, for me, i'd say that i've put in over one hundred hours in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Same goes for Tekken Tag.
I've mentioned that i've put in well over 300 hours each in Burnouts Takedown and Revenge. I would add at least another hundred hours each because of starting the game over to do single-player again, either for online reasons or because my data got corrupted which is I guess related. I'd put that mark at about 1000 hours. That's why I was so goddamn good at those two games, and why i will eventually be there with Paradise.
I'd also put Bubble Bobble, Tetris, DDR(various), and GTA San Andreas at over 100. Very addictive games.
I'm sure there are a lot more, but I can't think of them right now. I will though, eventually.

There's really only been one or two games in the past two generation of consoles that I've sank an overwhelming number of hours into. For the PS1 era, it was Resident Evil 2. I must've played this game a billion times. For PS2, it was DMC3. Sank a little over ninety hours into that game across both the regular and special edition.

Persona3 - 160 hours. What Mochan said.
Suikoden 3 - 113 hours Found all 108 Stars. First and last time I got them all in a Suikoden game on a single playthrough.
Final Fantasy X -120 hours. But that is only because I ran around trying to complete the game 100%, which I gave up on btw. Otherwise, I probably could have beat it at around the 60 hour mark. The unfortunate thing about FF games for me is they become more and more unremarkable the longer I play it so I usually try not to drag it out... versus a game like Persona3 that I didn't really want to end.
ONLINE
Phantasy Star Online - 700+
Champions of Norrath - dunno but for sure over 100. Rock solid hack-n-slash. Played it online and off with friends for many many hours.
WoW - played it for 6 months at approximately 3 hours a day 7 days a week, give or take 2-3 days here and there... 540 hours
And yeah you're not missing much by not watching TV. Except for female Ninja Warrior.

Final Fantasy XII - First FF single player game I got over the 100 hr mark with. Actually got to around 120. The marks is what did it for me.
FFXI, Earth and Beyond, Runescape, and Planestide. All MMO's. I think I only got 100+ on FFXI but just playing MMO's is time consuming.
NCAA Football 03, 05, 06, 07, 08. This is a pretty sad stat for me, but I love football, college more so. Up until last year I was still playin in college and being able to play what you do and love well it's beautiful.
CS, TFC, DoD on old school HL- 100 hours combined with my online cherry breakers.
You can probably throw in FFVIII and KOTOR1 in there as I've replayed each of those games 2-3 times getting 40+ hours in both.

Final Fantasy Eight was a great game. Seven is sooo overrated.
I also have to put FFX in my 100 hour games. The first time I played it I had over 70 hours, and then i beat it about three more times from the beginning after that.
I also have to add Ninja Gaiden, if I include all of them, NG, NGB, and NGS. Peobably Black alone is enough to put me over, with the awesome Mission mode.
Oh! And Stranger's Wrath.

Man where to start...
Soul Calibur 1 & 2 - easily couple hundred hours a piece
Quake 3 - 100+
Halo 1 - LAN parties galor
Halo 2 - everyday online since its release up until Halo 3
Xenogears - I have beaten it 7 times now...
First time through 80+ hours
Each time after 40-50 hours
Starcraft - everyday until Warcraft 3 came out...
Warcraft 3 & Warcraft 3 TF - I have probably played this game more than any other game I have played Ever.... I had to stop cold turkey after 3-5 years of playing it everyday
World Of Warcraft... Lets see Probably an average of 4+ hours a day for 6-8 months when it was first released...

Burnout 3 for Xbox...nearly 600 hours chalked up under my profile. Quake 3? over 1000
TF2...quickly approaching 100.

Wow, y'all.
Not only is my list short, but there are really only two games that I've reached "impressive" numbers on:
Ogre Battle 64 ... 700+ hours
I've played it thru 7 times now. With each and every playthru clocking in at about 100 hours. Official time. And I am not done playing yet! I don't care if it is last-last gen, I fracking love this game! And I love the characters. I am very attached to the recruitable, special characters especially. If we were to ever do a list of our favorite video game characters, I could not make mine a small one; as I would have to list each and every one of my OB64 friends.
ES IV: Oblivion ... 250+
Those 250 hours were all spent on the original main game. Now I've got The Orrery; Mehrunes Razor; Knights of the Nine; and Shivering Isles to play thru too. Plus several other side quests and Daedric Quests. I'll be getting back to this stuff soon enough; I'm not done with this game by a long shot!
Marvel Ultimate Alliance ... 150+
As with Oblivion, I'm not done with this game yet either. I played thru the main campaign about 4 complete times. Spent dozens upon dozens of hours trying to get all Gold medals in all of the individual "simulator disc missions"; and trying to get all of the single-player Achievements in general. Spent several hours (trying to play) online. But most crazy: I've kind of made it a mission of mine to max out all characters and all their costumes. Don't know if I'll get that done. See, I traded it in... and then picked up the Gold Edition with 8 new characters! So I've got those guys (and Achievements) to go thru now. Yikes!
And oh btw, I just read the news today (oh boy!): Activision is working on a sequel to MUA. Hooah!!!
Etrian Odyssey ... 125+
I honestly have no idea how many hours I've logged into this game. You know how it is with handhelds... But judging by the hours other handheld games have told me I clocked I'd say it feels like 150 hours or more. I put 125 tho' because I remember the developer once saying in a blog that the game could be beaten in about 50 hours. (Yeah; sure; that's what they said about OB64 too. ) I don't know... I just know that it consumed me for a good three months straight. It's my 2007 GOTY, don't you know? :wink5:
Halo ... 120+
I've played thru the complete game proper 8 times. But this is the greatest pick up and play game I know, and I played thru the individual chapters separately several more times. Each. Then there's my three co-op attempts. And oh, the Halo parties!!! 120 is a safe guess on my part. *Sigh* ...My favorite game of all time.
Don't know if I've quite gotten to a 100 hours on the following, but I think I'm close:
- Halo 2
- Rainbow Six Vegas
Rogue Bounty Hunter
02-08-2008, 07:50 PM
Oblivion - This one's a no brainer for me, especially since it hasn't been dethroned as my favorite current gen game. I've put over 100 hours with just one character, and that was before the Shivering Isles download. My 2nd character has over 80 hours, with barely any of the main story finished and just some of the main Isles story done.
Morrowind - I have no idea how many hours I had in original and GOTY Edition, but it was a lot.
NCAA Football 04, 05, 06, 08 - I'm right there with you, Papa Smurf, when it comes to this game. With 08, I'm about to start a new Dynasty after being in my 8th season in my current dynasty. I won 2 championships (Washington, NC State), and I ended up leaving afterwards, since I rather build a program that either sucks or is struggling than stay at a powerhouse. I have the same goal each season: Build Colorado Buffaloes from a struggling program to a multi championship powerhouse. Since they rarely get down to a 3-star status, I rarely get a chance to play with them in a Dynasty.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I - I beat this one twice, and it was a good thing I did. I got the best ending my 2nd time through.

100 hours is a lot of hours. Not too many games could ever hook me that long. The ones that have so far:
Advance Wars (the GBA original)
Gran Turismo
Animal Crossing
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (and Twilight Princess did 60-70 hours, and will play it a second time, which will put it over 100hrs some day.)
NBA Jams (SNES)
Mario Kart (all versions combined. . . probably have done 30 hours just on the DS version alone.)
Burnout Paradise stands a good chance of hitting a hundred hours based on what I've done so far. Depends on if I just suddenly lose interest, but this one has me hooked the way the original Gran Turismo did. I want to get all the cars and licenses in this one, and since I'm breaking up my play with online play, it'll take more than a hundred hours.
I wish all games had timers. It might be possible I've put in a hundred hours in something and not realized it.
Cumulatively, over the years, have probably also put a hundred hours into Galaga and Ms. Pac Man.

100 hours games?
The first was probably Diablo this is the first game I really got into online with. I played it every day for years I still played it when Diablo 2 came out.
Also I don't know if it was more than a Hour but the Original Tribes got me away from the standard Deathmatches of Unreal Tournament and Quake. I was actually in a clan for this game. They need to bring this back.
On the console side I tend to switch games rapidly and don't play them for years. Because for me to play a game for 100+ hours I have to be playing it over a year. The two that I can think of though are.
PSO the original since they ruined every single sequal. I've played this up until PSO 3 came out on the Xbox and they finally closed the servers I hear there is a way to play it with a private server now though. I loved the game. The cheating and duping got ridiculous but for me it became part of the charm. This game was like dodge city. Sega had no idea how to maintain an online community it was every man for himself. And that became part of the fun for me. I also was D!ck in the game doing bogus trades. Short story.... There was no in game trading mechanic for players in the original PSO so both players who wanted to trade would have to drop there items and then pick up each others I can count the times I dropped some B.S. and ripped people off for swords and items they worked weeks and months upgrading! LOFL I know it's terrible but god it was fun. Sometimes I wouldn't even need the item I did it just to grief. There was actually a petition out against me on the PSO forums at one time. Good times. PSU is pretty good as well but I'm not paying a monthly fee for anygame (well maybe if I got the game for free).
The only other game I played that much was ESPN 2k5 which had online leagues. And evertime you set one up you could go to ESPN2k5 web page and it would automatically set up a page for your season. With a forum and schedules and stat tracking. This lead got so serious that everyone (almost) gave out cell numbers to correlate games better. There was about a core 8 of us that played every season with various other members over the years (yes real life years!). There was real rivalires and everything. There was even an investigation because we all though a certain member was using a turbo controller and if you remember ESPN2k5 you could break tackles by rapidly pushing the a button. We had one member who played like 2 seasons who had to have average almost 200 yds. per game. Also 2K5 maybe where I made my greatest gaming acomploishment. Winning our league championship about six seasons in. Great game great fun. I need to find those guys.
Do we have any sports gamers here who want to start a online league???
As you can see from my list I've never played a single player game that long. And I wouldn't want to.

PC Games with 100+ Hours
Total War Series Well over 200 hours when combining games on this one. You all will too if you just invest in the expansion and download the two excellent MTW2 mods...
Deus Lo Volt 5.3! - Just came out a week or two ago, and it is freaking awesome. It adds more roleplaying elements to Medieval Total War 2, AND it more then doubles the number of provinces, makes expansions to the world map, has historic faction names, and adds several factions including Lithuania, Ireland, The Kingdom of Jerusalem, etc. If you even own this game, or have friend or cousin that does, then at least attempt this mod, cause it WON'T disappoint.
Broken Crescent- This changed the world map to just a enlarged map of the middle-east and lets you duke it out with historic middle-eastern factions
Some of the factions are as follows (all that I can remember)
Christian factions
Kingdom of Jerusalem
Kingdom of Georgia
Eastern Roman Holy Empire
The Kingdom of Malakia
Muslim Factions
The Imamate of Oman
The Malikate of Sindh
The Abbassid Caliphate
The Abbuyyid Caliphate
The Kypchak Confederacy
The Ghorid Sultanate
The Sultanate of Ghazni
The Kingdom of Armenia
The Turks
The mod is VERY well done and I highly recommend to anyone with even a slight interest in M2TW and especially to anyone remotely interested in the middle east at all.
The ORIGINAL Unreal Tournament 100+ hours still to this day play, and suck, at this game
KOTOR 1 & 2 + Mods- easily over 100 hours. KOTOR rocks.
Cyber Empires Second computer game I ever played (next to sopwith) so me and my friend played this old game to death, and it counts.
G-Nome played the hell out of this as a kid
Starcraft + Brood War This game is the ****!
Empire Earth/Empire Earth 2/ Empires Dawn of the Modern World LAN parties...
Dawn of War + Frozen Throne + Dark Crusade LAN parties again, + beating the campaigns
Battlefield 2142 Finally put this game to rest two months ago, but I might pick it up again in another week or two. Great game.
Guild Wars Factions Screw WoW you can play guild wars online....for free. Just how it was intended. Subscription fees in my opinion are BS and a Pain in the @$$. IMO the features of Guild Wars just put it a notch above WoW. Territorial lines can't move on World of Warcraft, and those endless Alliance Horde Battles amount to nothing when it comes to who owns what, and that is one of WoW's biggest flaws. I mean, in the end the lines in Guild Wars means nothing either, but at least its fun to have a overall conflict with changing political boundaries, it just makes the whole war more fun when you can actually conquer something.
I guess those are the only PC games that I really played more than 100 hours.
Gamecube Games with 100+ Hours
To make it short
Skies of Arcadia
SSBM
more later.....;

Well Gamer I admit I have put in a lot of hours into Shogun and Medieval 2. In fact I am playing Medieval 2 as we speak or rather i am still int he middle of my British campaign. Don't have time to play Kingdoms yet, I'll grab that a little later down the road. I don't think I've managed to hit 100 hours in either game yet though (combined though I'm sure I've put at least 100 hours into the Total War series).

You could pick yourself up a copy of Tribes 2 DTM that game has a solid cult following and should run even on modest PCs.
By the time Tribes 2 came out all the things I loved about Tribes became in vogue. The team based gameplay and huge battlegrounds were in a bunch of other online shooters at the time. And a big part of Tribes 1 to me was the community. Which is funny because a lot of them didn't cross over. I played a bit of Tribes 2 but never really got into it much.

I guess my first true hook was Descent 2.
Interesting, I played the first Decent and bought a Thrustmast flight stick and weapons control system just for that game back in the day and cost about 300 bones. Descent I easily put at least 50 hours into, probably a lot more than that but it was long ago so memory is fuzzy.
100 hour games: Morrowind, HL 1,2,ep1,2. The whole Halo series. the first Grand Turismo, Warhawk.
500 hour games: Battlefield 1942, BF Vietnam, BF Modern Combat, Battlefront Star Wars PSP, Socom PSP.
2000 hour game: Counter Strike...

Descent with a Flightstick is freaking awesome. I got one myself. I loved this game I wish I had a throttle but I stopped short of getting one. So I had a keyboard pad on my left hand for propulsion, and the stick in my right for axis control and weapon firing, controlling decsent was an awesome immersive experience. If had a Throttle the experience would have been complete.
But this was not a game I spent 100 hours on.
But hell yeah Counterstrike for the all time addiction award, LOL

7 Kingoms: Ancient Adversaries
7 Kingdoms 2: The Frythan Wars
Championship Manager Series succeeded by Football Manager Series (easily over 1000 hours)
Deus Ex
Knights of the Old Republic
Shogun: Total War
Medieval: Total War (the older and better edition) - still clocking up the hours with this one (750-1000 hours?)
Rome: Total War
**Medieval 2 is not in the same league as her two earliest predecessors. there's nothing tactical or strategic about the AI. worst in the series by far and i'm concerned i may not bother picking up Empire: Total War because of it**
Pro Evolution Soccer Series
Civilisation 4
Thief Series
and of course: Planescape
notice how only Deus Ex is the only 'FPS' there long enough to keep my attention long enough to complete it and play it again

I don't know about 100+ hours, but over the past few days I've played Brawl for a good 20 hours, and I can easily see myself putting over 1000 hours into this game over the next few years. Participating in tournaments really encourages you to play and practice more.

Man, Snake is a titan in this game. Heavy as hell, hits like a truck, and has tricks coming out of his ears. The only characters that give me trouble are those that can spam their projectiles better than I can (namely Zelda and Pit). Ugh they're annoying. However, Brawl confirms what I've known for a long time - Snake is the most bad-ass video game character of all time. :D
Also, fun fact: Kojima designed the Shadow Moses level in Brawl. That's probably why it's so flipping awesome.

I'm not sure how long I played these games but I'm sure it's the most out of my entire life span spent playing vids. The two most played for me were Phantasy Star Online and Super Smash Brothers Melee. SSBM was played constantly by my friends and I either before or after every band practice. Sometimes for hours on end. And we did that every week for a couple years.
For the most part, I don't play games near as long as 100 hours. I think I have too short of an attention span for that. Or maybe it's because I get excited to play whatever else has been recently released.

This past weekend was the fourth straight weekend where I put in 20 hours on Culdcept. With those 80 hours just right there, plus all the various other days, nights, and mornings I've played the game I'd say I've cleared the 100-hour mark on this game easy.

I have logged 1008 hours so far on CH, this game is the best multiplayer online, pc, xbox 360, or PS3. In Fact some people I know have about 3000 hours. For those of you that dont know CH stands for Chromehounds!
Next would have to be Halo!
