Anyone here know a thing or two about modems? Ever since I got my new pc last summer, I can only dial out on my main phone line, but not my second line. I get a recorded operator message when I try to dial my ISP. Now, if I hook are laptop up to the second phone line, it dials out fine. Haven't really looked into it much, since it works on my main phone line, but now I'd like to fix it. Any ideas? Must be some configuration problem with my modem, but why it works on one line and not the other is a mystery to me.

Okay...a few questions Aku.

On your old computer, were you able to dialup using your second line?

Is this a single phone with two lines coming in?

On your laptop, you say the second line works fine. But does your first line work on it?

The software installation for your modem may be recognizing the initial set up and may not be linking to the second line on your pc.

The first line may not be recognized on your laptop if you initially set the laptop up to connect to the second line.

I'm speculating here since I can't physically see your setup.</div>

There are two separate physical lines. My old pc could dialup on both. The laptop can dialup on both. If I bring the laptop into the room where my desktop is, I can plug the laptop into either jack and connect. My desktop can only connect on the one jack (main line), not the second line. If you have some ideas, great. My only idea is that this modem may need a better driver, or needs an initiliazation string in the config settings (which one, I have no idea...modems are so confusing). Oh, and it's a Lucent V.92 K56 Flex modem. I'm going to do some research on this modem now. Thanks.

Sounds like you have an internal modem in your pc. You could try updating the drivers.
