December 2nd is the tentative release date for the xbox version. The company has hedged however on that specific date, but have guaranteed it'll be out in time for xmas.

According to one of the devs on the Ion Storm forum the Xbox version is now considered finished and will probably go gold anytime now with the PC version not far behind...they'll both be released simultaneously around early/mid December.

When it comes to Deus Ex 2, its both the journey & the destination for me....its been sooooo long since I've anticipated gaming fun like this.
It'll be that way for HL2 also, but thats a PC thing.....and a lot further out.

I myself have played through Deus Ex 4 times, only finishing it once. I also found a web site once with all the text data in the game put into one file, along with commentary and explanation. It was quite an extensive story and atmosphere that went along with the gameplay.

Hey, we could have Deus Ex trivia prior to the release of the second game... just for fun, and as a way to remember the important stuff.

I'd be up for that! Deus Ex had one of the most intriguing stories I've come across in a game. The conspiracies generated within DE made it believable, reflecting suspecious goings on of western governments.

Deus Ex 2 will have new power interest, but you play the familiar role of covert anti-terroism operative "Alex D".
I just hope the story is as engaging as was the original.

"Q": JC's brother Paul had a self-destruct mechanisim planted inside on of his augs. Could that mechanisim have been triggered during game play killing Paul, or was it just there to add tension to story?

Hmmm, not sure I fully understand the question. Paul's death in the game was a pre-scheduled event that occured only after you got past a certain part of the game. I don't think anything that JC did delayed or rushed the self-destruct switch in Paul.

Here's some trivia questions. I'll start off with stuff that is in the earlier parts of the game. Anyone is free to answer:

1) We know that Gray Death was a nano-augmented virus. What route was the virus administered to the people of New York:

a) airborn
b) secretly through a "vaccination" program at the free clinics
c) water system
d) food
e) powder attached to mail parcels

2) What is the name of the United Nations, world-wide police force?

3) What is the name of J.C.'s director in this particular group (from question #2)?

4) What is Project DIBBUK?

5) What does NSF stand for (there are actually two answers to this)?

Apologies for confusion re: Pauls self destruct mechanism. Im under the impression that Paul will make a guest appearance in Deus ex 2, which adds more confusion to my memory; was Pauls death a mandatory scripted event in DE?

Re: trivia, I'll give one of two possible answers for Q #5, NSF stands for National Secessionist Forces.

I'll resist hogging out on the other tempting "Q's"...for now. :D

You could actually save Paul during the course of the game. It all depends on what you do when MJ12 comes to raid his apartment. It's hard to do exactly right though, I've only managed to do it once.

And now...QUIZZLE TIME!

1: Pretty sure it's B

2: NATCO

3: Joseph Manderley

4. Whoa..no idea.

5. Northwestern Secessionist Front

It seems to me that DX 2 is getting the least hype over all the other big wig FPS coming out but I think it could turn out to be the best.

In regard to FPS, I can see how that may be true.
Deus Ex 2, as orignal, is cross over genre game. A little RPG & Adventure element combined with FPS fair.
For those who are focused on FPS only, DE isnt as attractive as say Half Life , or Max Payne may be.

Im biased towards Deus Ex, so anticipating DE2 to "turn out to be the best" sits fine with me. I cant think of any other FPS that has as compelling a story line.
DE2 is one game I'll pre order ;)

First of all, I did not realize that Paul could be saved. I assumed that Paul's death was a pre-scripted event. You saw Paul in his apartment and he was feeling ill. He tells you some of the conspiracy story, particularly about UNATCO and why he is helping the NSF. At this point, he is feeling ill because the kill-switch was activated and is having it's effect. Paul then asks you to go over to the UNATCO-controlled building to dig up some proof of what he's telling you as well as broadcast the emergency signal to Paul's friends (the Eluminati, I think). You go over to the building and find some evidence, make the transmission, and then UNATCO (under Walter Simon's authority) turns on you. You escape that building and run back to Paul's apartment. At that point, if I'm not mistaken, Paul is not there, but the men-in-black are beating down the door. You can fight them or run back out to the fire escape. However, you don't see Paul nor do I remember an opportunity to save him. I've even fought and killed the men-in-black and run downstairs in the apartment building and still did not see Paul or his body. In fact, later in the game, one of your mission goals is to take back the nanomachines from Paul's body, which is needed for Tracer Tong to figure out a way to beat your own kill-switch. So, I'm fairly certain that Paul always dies in the game.

------------------

Now, onto the trivia answers:

- You guys got number 5 right: The original name was the Northwest Succesionist Forces, later changed to the National Successionist Forces. In fact, the game refers to a "Northwest War" at some time. Some sort of small civil war. The NSF originated from a group of gun-loving people who lived out in the woods.

From a UNATCO training bulletin:
"Ten years ago, in response to the Sporting Weapons Act of 2042, splinter groups from nearly every state militia refused to
surrender their rifles, grenades, land mines, and other "collectibles"
prohibited by the Act. Unified under the charismatic leadership of Leon Woods, these isolated fanatics eventually formed the NSF with Woods assuming the rank of General. Their intended goal: the "liberation" of Washington, Montana, Oregon, and Northern California."

- E.T. got number 2 right, UNATCO.

- Renzatic got number 3 right, Joseph Manderly

- In regards to number 4: here's some hints. Project DIBBUK is referred to in the game by text only. I think it's a page of a book that you read and is found in several locations in the game. Project DIBBUK is a secrety military project that created something that is seen many times in the game and plays a significant role. I don't think DIBBUK is an acronym, although the game spells it with all capitals. This project is also referred to as SH-187.

- In regards to number 1, the answer is NOT b. People were already sick with Gray Death before they arrived at these free clinics. Take another stab at it. The answer is not obvious at first, but is supported by several texts in the game. In fact, the delivery system of the Gray Death was disguised as an industrial accident ... hint.

Im going to focus on Pauls fate for a moment.

Mission "Raid!"
Youre back @ the 'Ton. Shortly after reaching Pauls room, the Unatco raid everyone was talking abut breaks loose. You are meet with three [or more] MIB's.
The outcome of this battle is significant, "it determines whether Paul lives or dies".
[1] If you go out the window, Paul dies. [Paul urges you to take this path. btw].

[2] If you get waxed inside the room, Paul dies.

[3]If the two of you survive the first wave [which I always aimed for],
& BOTH make it out at least as far as the landing, Paul lives!

[I cant devulge my source, its classified.]

Suffice it to say, I believe devs of DE2 intended this path to be choosen, based on the prelude of Paul making a guest apperance in DE2.

Re: Gray Death, I know its not actually a virus, but a nano-technology that invaded host body & replicated there till death.
This was part of Pages master plan. I think the answer on how it was introduced to popualtion was revealed latter in game...I will continue to pursue this, so pleas dont give the answer away here on board, thanks.
