View Full Version : XBLA Limits Are Problematic For Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix

Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix isn't your dad's Street Fighter 2. While the original arcade classic was just 250k, in 1080p HD the game could be topping Microsoft's 150MB download limit on LIVE Arcade. And according to the game's director, David Sirlin, it's making development problematic.
"It's difficult to store so many 1080p graphics in such a small download size...It also makes it difficult or impossible to include all the original game's music AND all the remixed set of music. We're still doing our best to fit within the limit we've been given."
And even if all that fits, there are some unnannounced features that will find it difficult staying in the final game. While LIVE download limits force efficient, creative programming, here's hoping Microsoft makes an exception just this one time and let's us have this game as nature intended.

Ouch... One has to wonder what purpose limiting download sizes serves?
Hope this doesn't affect the PSN version.

Limiting DL size is for people that don't use an hdd and stick with memory cards. It doesn't make sense when they were able to put REZ on XBL, a game that has updated HD graphics(that look saweeet) and some great CD-quality sound and keep it under 150. Castlevania SotN is only 95MB, and that's a hella-large game with some nice-sounding tunes. Lumines as a whole is only 51MB. I can't believe that keeping the original 16-bit music on the game would be a hassle, but I don't really know.

The rationale MS is using doesn't make any sense given that surveys show the vast majority of 360 owners have HDDs.
Oh, and Castlevania and Lumines are not comparable to this remix of Street Fighter. High resolution backgrounds and textures require a lot of space and 150MB is considered minuscule now days.

i think it's different. games like sf2 uses a lot of sprites. And, when these sprites are in 1080, the size gets significantly larger. Capcom vs SNK 2 was about 400 mb and it was not HD.

MS's whole ideology when it comes to limiting download sizes, sucks. I mean you've got demos and movie trailers that regularly break those limits. Don't tell me people without a harddrive are not going to want to play those. So this whole thing with limiting XBLA download sizes is stupid.

Yeah, I think it's lame, too, but MS is almost forcing the issue by creating the Arcade Bundle that comes with a memory card pre-loaded with Arcade games. I told people if they were gonna get a 360 to get one with a harddrive, but no one listens to the gamer. They listen to the people at Wal-Mart.
And BTW, REZ HD is sick-looking and barely tops 100MB. But like Folk said, it could be the sprites thing. I always thought it would be easier memory-wise to use crusty old sprites compared to jillions of polygons, but I know not of these things.
Also, how about the games that use Unreal on LA? They have graphics that are better than XBOX games, and are under 50MB.

Street Fighter isn't going to be using any of the old sprites. They're redoing all the artwork in HD it should be widescreen as well. I wonder if they're going to do the animation as well. This should be a good looking game.
Yeah the DL size sucks.
