View Full Version : Why ... WHY!?

... ... ... Why haven't I played Persona 3 before now?

I rented the game from Gamefly to give me something to do while waiting for my Xbox 360 to get back. I don't know what happened to the past week. I seem to vaguely remember doing something other than playing this awesome game, but I can't quite imagine what it was.

Seriously, I haven't been this addicted to a JRPG in AGES! It's like the glory days of the SNES RPGs all over again for me.

I pray to God that Atlus releases Persona 3 FES in the states so I can buy it. Persona 3 is impossible to find now and playing this games is making me drool over the extra content.

Right now I'm near the end and am trying to fuse my ultimate team of personas to do battle against the end boss. So far I got a Thor with Resist Wind and Akasha Arts, and a Seth with Fire Boost, Fire Amp, and Ragnarok, and I just now got Thanatos with Deathbound, Die For Me, and Null Light.

Fun, fun. :D

I always wanted to play the original Shin Tegami Nocturn, or whatever it's called.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

And yes, you should definitely give it a try, if for nothing else than to be able to have Dante in your party. :D

The story is very original for a JRPG, and I the combat system is fun. My only complaint is that random battles are very frequent and happen everywhere, even in towns! You do get items and skills that let you avoid fights against weaker enemies altogether, but still ...

Oh, and I once asked for that game by name at Gamestop and got the oddest looks from the sales person and the people standing next to me. Priceless.

You shoulda listened to Tashi and me. When it comes to JRPGs we know what's cooking. :)

We can only pray that FES makes it here but it's highly unlikely.
Nocturne is okay but is a different experience, it's more traditional RPG in the Final Fantasy vein but with a much darker setting and theme. I prefer Digital Devil Saga to Nocturne on the whole -- better game system, better presentation, better graphics, story is a wash but I may be one of the few who thinks that way. But yeah LOL Dante.

Persona 3 is better than both though by my estimate, although it's more "kiddified" compared to the other two but that never bothered me.

Damn straight.

Since next gen is lacking in this area, I'm gonna go back to all the PS2 rpgs I missed. Xenosaga 3, Dragon Quest 8, Growllanser, Rogue Galaxy, Valkyrie Profile 2, and there's another brand spanking new rpg coming in March called Baroque. It's from Atlus so it should be worth a look. Speakingof Atlus they have some major announcement coming via the countdown on their site.

I agree DDS is better than Nocturne for the reasons Mochan said, but the story held my attention better, and Persona 3 for me is just the best game in the SMT series, period.

Next SMT game I'm buying at least 2, because they're always published in limited number and eventually they go for some inflated price on ebay.

I've been into music lately (and learning new software for work) and not doing much gaming, but I picked up DQ8 for $5 at a used book store a couple of days ago, and I have to say it rocks. Beautiful to look at, listen to, and to play. It is very non-linear, and exploration is the main focus. The game world is huge. The storyline is ok too. I am amazed that this game came out in '05 and I completely missed it. It's so sweet I even ordered the strat guide for it.
