This probably could go under Gadfly's thread but, ah well. Yahoo! has been running a ton of game news stories lately. Their reviews seem solid too. Don't always agree but I can't complain. And apparently handhelds get left out. Anyhoo, according to Yahoo!...

Well specifically the article said "the games WE'RE most anticipating" so I suppose that refers to the Yahoo staff. Most of the games they list are very commercial and mainstream. Ninja Gaiden and Bionic Commando vibe more with the hardcore crowd and Saint's Row sits permanently in GTA's shadow. Surprised to see Fallout and Spore though. Ghostbusters... I dunno. It's got deep roots in pop culture but it's been off the radar for a long time. There were a few Ghostbusters videogames, none of them any good by memory so I don't think most have a clue what to expect. But overall it's a halfway decent list of anticipated titles.

Ninja Gaiden has never been a sales behemoth, it's clearly one of the best action games out there, minus the putrid platforming in the xbox version of the game. Saints Row2 shining in the year of GTA4 is laughable. That game is going to be massacred in reviews and sales, it won't even be funny. Ghostbusters and Bionic Commando will get some sales based on nostalgia, but nothing beyond 200k upon release. Beyond the GT5's, MGS4's, FF13's etc.. I believe the new IP's are what we've got to keep an eye on. I'm lookoing at Infamous and that shows a lot of promise, and no doubt, it's from SUCKER PUNCH.

Only really oldschool hardcore gamers would be looking forward to Bionic Commando, which isn't a franchise. Who the hell would care about St's Row 2 when GTA4 is on the horizon. Ghostbusters, many of the gamers today probably weren't born when the movie was shown. NG2 is a bit more understandable but still pretty hardcore just like DMC4, which incidentally doesn't make the list either.

All the titles listed are old but consistent and powerful mainstream franchises, or successors of a long massive mainstream franchise. You know, so I'm rubbing this franchise-infested reply into your face.
