Rumour: Xbox 360 news at CES.
HD-DVD built-in or hybrid units?

With the 2008 CES opening next week, rumours are rampant that Bill Gates will make an Xbox 360 announcement as part of his keynote.

Gates has previously indicated that this year’s keynote will be his last as he steps down from his full-time Microsoft role this June to focus on his charity work.

Analysts are currently speculating that the announcement may involve the previously rumoured Xbox 360 SKU with a built-in HD-DVD player. It may also relate to Microsoft licensing the Xbox technology to other manufacturers for use in creating hybrid game console/DVR/HD-DVD machines.

Microsoft has not commented upon the rumours, and Toshiba denied earlier rumours that it was involved with Xbox 360 hardware developments.

The 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show runs January 7-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Well, that was interesting. I feel that this would be a great move. I remember saying awhile back that if a game were to come out on 5 or 6 DVDs then it wouldn't be a problem, and I will humble myself and take that statement back...because I thought to myself, "what if every big mega game comes out with 5 or 6 DVDs from this point on?" After awhile, it does get annoying, and I already favor a high storage capacity, not only because it is hitting the point of being affordable, but just because of how much it can hold in general.

What do you guys think...? Post your thoughts here.

Makes no sense to have this ability built in if games won't make use of it. I'm thinking the announcement is probably going to be about Gears 2 and maybe some other big exclusive title for 2008. Maybe they'll even give a firm release date for Alan Wake or show something from it.

it's close to impossible to make games on hddvd now. how would M$ answer to the millions who don't have the drive? wait, M$ doesn't care for its customers' problems. my bad.
