Well, that takes the sting out of Grabbed by the Ghoulies. More and more it looks like I'll have to be picking up Top Spin. Who woulda thunk this would become a killer app for the xbox.

I rented CS, don't liek it, will pick up RS3 instead. Glad to know XBox finally has more exclusive quality games.

December is gonna be great for Xbox as well...the long awaited Deus Ex 2 coming out...I never got into the first one but it has won many awards and DX2 could turn out to be the sleeper hit between HL2, Doom 3, and Halo 2.

I am with you. I will be getting Top Spin tonight because that review sealed the deal for me. It sounds like it is practically flawless. I am going to have to wait on Amped 2 though(too many games too little time). I can see it now---For digitized t&a in the form of Anna Kournikova and horrible gameplay there is no power greater than the X. Wait...scratch that...Topspin has excellent gameplay...so does Crimson Skies...so does Amped 2 etc.etc.

I will give Crimson Skies some credit, though, because the game looks DAMN good and plays BETTER than it looks. I didn't think Xbox(or any other console this gen) was capable of the technical accomplishment of Crimson Skies.

IGN usually is full of crap Folkie, but half of those games have recieved excellent reviews elsewhere as well.

The thing about IGN is that the content of the reviews is generally reliable, but then the scores are out of whack.

In other threads here...
The Prince of Darkness said that CS was his new GOTY...
and TheMaskedGamer said that he considered CS to be one of the greatest of the greats, and he put it only behind MotoGP2 and Halo, on the XBox.

And I agree perfectly/100 percent, with both of them!

But I still would like to add something else...
...and that's that I think Crimson Skies is the absolute epitome of a "this-generation" console game. It is exactly what you were thinking of when you were thinking about what this generation of games could, and should, be like - with regards to: graphics, sound, presentation, controller interface, gameplay, challenge, value, replayability and lasting appeal, and... well... everything else... including on-line play and other system features! :D

For those of you that need elaboration:
- Crimson Skies looks awesome! You know I'm an Xbot... and thus a "graphics ho"... right? So hear me when I say, "look out Tecmo!"

- The sound effects and the music are right on for a "Wild Wild West type flying game". Some effects are perfectly captured, and some are arcadey... but all fit the mood perfectly, as does, especially, the music.

Also, in case anybody's forgotten... I have been very hard on previous Microsoft games with regards to the voice acting (Midtown Madness 3; Voodoo Vince; anyone?) but I have no such complaints with CS!

- The controls are just fantastic - with everything mapped out... well... perfectly. It's a snap performing the preset "stunts" and aerial manuevers, but you can also effect rolls on your own - which is a lot more challenging (read "disorienting")... but also, quite a rrrrrrush!

- Unlike the single player aspects in some other XBL games (like MechAssault, Unreal, and the aforementioned MM3) the single player missions and story in CS... are GREAT! Though I am frequently reminded of MechAssault's sp mode (prolly 'cause Fasa Studio had a hand in both, eh?) the makers totally got it right with this game here! In fact...

... now you might want to sit down for this...
... especially when you consider how much of a fan of XBL I am...

... I like playing the single player a lot more than I do the on-line games, right now!!!

what baffles me about Xbox is that there just so much variation. RTCW is still my fav game right now, but how is it that 16 players on certain maps can potentially lag...yet on CS the levels are 10x bigger than anything in RTCW, and there is NO lag?! The flight in CS is soooo smoooth...the moves done by clicking the rt analog are ingenious and feel rather natural. I've still only scratched the surface of different planes and combinations of moves but this game is a real gem because a lot is to be found here, especially online, even the single player game is first class...LOOK AT THAT WATER!

There's nothing quite like chasing down your prey bobbing and weaving around skyscrapers and finally making the kill it feels like the simulations of the greatest movie action sequences but better. The dogfighting is VERY dramatic and MUCH more exciting than anything single player of this type...even though I admit, I'm not good at CS at all right now, not to say it's not the most perfect controlling game of this type EVER, but I've been thrashed everytime I play CS then having to then pop in RTCW so I could win some to satisfy my craving..I've got it for a week, if I've made some progress and win some matches before due time, maybe I'll buy it but if I am continually thrashed and I never win a match I won't be.

Still, 100x more than what I was expecting from it and is really something special. If RS3, Halo2, Ninja Gaiden, True Crime, or Counter Strike do no suffice I will be purchasing CS instead, I'm just not really much of a flight sim guy but damn CS is so gooood.

Amped ain't for me. Actually, all the entire Xtreme sports genre is poop to me. I think THPS is the most overhyped/overrated game series in the history of video games, that is besides the Metal Gear series.

I'm not so sure about IGN overrating XBox games, but it IS pretty obvious that they overrate games in general. In particular, anitcipated games tend to get inflated scores, even if the final product was disappointing.
