View Full Version : Xbox 360 kills the PS3 in 08

Yeah...nice topic, right? But really, here is a list of games that will be coming out on the 360 in the next 12 months (some may be pushed back into 09) that will make PS3 owners weep.
Gears of War 2 (will be officially announced at CES)
Banjo-Kazooie 3
Perfect Dark 2
Ninja Gaiden 2
Too Human Part One
Jade Empire 2 (MIcrosoft to publish, original Bioware team from JE1 working on it)
Mass Effect 2 (Microsoft to publish, EA and Bioware credited)
Dead or Alive 5 OR Code Cronus
Lost Odyssey
Infinite Undiscovery
Halo Wars
Kingdom Under Fire
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Also, current word running the rumor mill is that Konami either A) refused a moneyhat from Sony to make MGS4 exclusive or B) returned a moneyhat to Sony that was meant to keep MGS4 exclusive. If nothing else, it looks like Konami wants to keep their options open.
As much of a financial beating as Microsoft has been taking on the 360, the PS3 has Sony in the hole to the tune of 1.9 billion right now. Contrary to Sony and all their fanboy's claims, the PS3 never managed to overtake the 360. In the US, the 360 kicks the PS3 to the curb. In Europe, the PS3 is outselling the 360 by a small margin month-to-month. In Japan, well the PS3 kills the 360 there. Sony may very well overtake the 360 in the end of the current gen, but no way in hell is it going to be a slam-dunk like last gen. And I just can't see the PS3 outselling the Wii. :D

The PS3's game sales in the U.S. cant touch the 360's. That alone will 9 times out of 10 be the deciding factor overall. No need for 360 owners to be worried. Until PS3 software starts selling at an staggering rate Europe and Japan will be the only shining stars for the PS3 supporters. But not on North American soil anytime soon IMO.

The only games on that list that I see PS3 owners genuinely caring about are Gears of War 2, possibly Mass Effect 2, Halo Wars (frankly I don't think many console gamers care about RTS though) and Splinter Cell. And hell, even Mass Effect 2 is a stretch. The rest only XBots who for some reason are into the franchise would really care about, or are just desperate to get a JRPG. Infinite Undiscovery is something I would probably want though.

Too many "ifs" on that list to conclude that the 360 will kill the PS3 this year.

Yeah...nice topic, right? But really, here is a list of games that will be coming out on the 360 in the next 12 months (some may be pushed back into 09) that will make PS3 owners weep. You forgot to put the sarcastic smiley after the above...anyhoos..moving on...
Gears of War 2 (will be officially announced at CES)
Really? Good for you, but I think most PS3 owners are looking forward to Uncharted 2, this game is getting serious legs from word of mouth, gamers are pratically cursing themselves that they didn't buy it day one.
Banjo-Kazooie 3
That certainly won't be a reason why PS3 owners would weep, but if a reliable 360 is built, I can see myself picking this up with NG2, definitely not on it's lonesome. I still got to see actual gameplay though but it looks different from normal xbox ware. You shouldn't fool your self that it will move consoles though, hell it won't even sell that much on the 360. In any case, I'm looking forward to LBP next year.
Perfect Dark 2
Man I'm willing to give Rare the benefit of a doubt on Kazooie, but PD2 is pushing it here bigtime. PS3 owners are looking forward to Resistance 2 and Killzone2, Haze and Timesplitters4.
Ninja Gaiden 2
Will be a good game with quick and responsive controls, but it has never been a sales behemoth. On the other side of the fence, PS3 gamers are getting a superior DMC4 with the option of no loads with a better controller for the genre. We're looking forward to a new IP in Infamous and of course later on GOW3, that's all you need to know. Barlog said it's coming on smoothly and it's in good hands.
Too Human Part One
LOL, refer to the sarcastic smiley comment.
Jade Empire 2 (MIcrosoft to publish, original Bioware team from JE1 working on it)
You guys and Bioware, you know what, I don't care how these games are rated. Bioware needs to step up and give gamers a smooth game or at least don't overstate what they're doing in their games. Jade Empire's combat system was pie, no depth, just vanilla stuff, can you imagine, even worse than Kotor. The original team working on J.E.2 does not give this game props at all, like I said, I'm sure you meant to use the sarcastic smiley. PS3 owners are looking forward to WKS, FF13 and Vs, Disgaea and Star Ocean 4, of course Persona 4 is on it's way as well.
Mass Effect 2 (Microsoft to publish, EA and Bioware credited)
LOL..you expect this in 08? really, in what form? M.E was in development for years and could hardly break double digits (fps) in certain instances, and you are calling for part 2 this year?
Dead or Alive 5 OR Code Cronus
Do you know that Hayashi is working on something for the PS3, you'll know soon enough. Itagaki said everyone would lose all motivation when they saw NG2....birds chirping.... did that happen? Oh! devs would just give up and all that ass, can't compete...Lol...are these more games from the motivation killing loon?
Lost Odyssey
Another UE3 game with performance issues out the wazoo, when your FMV's stick and stutter you know it's bad, wonky animations and severe loads, is it that game? You know that this game has been released in Japan right? It's coming stateside in feb, so little time. Do you expect a miraculous turnover for the NA release?
Infinite Undiscovery
Why? Because it's on the 360. I've seen it, it looks good, but The Last Remnant looks more interesting and strategic, looks like there's alot of dungeons in IU though, right up the xbot's alley, but yes the graphics do look good from the trailer I saw. So we'll wait to see more on that, but this going against the PS3 RPG's in 08 is silly. PS3 owners are looking forward to the real RPG's from square...FF13 and VS and of course KH3.
Halo Wars
An RTS? Good luck. It has the Halo name so you figure it will sell well. I'm not so sure that PS3 fans are envious of a Halo RTS, seeing that they were not so much into the FPS. We are looking forward to Valkyrie of the battlefield and Disgaea though. Ubisoft seems to be bringing Endwar to the PS3 and 2K is bringing Civilization Revolutions there as well. We'll see how all these strategy games fare at the end of 08, but the PS3 does have it covered as well, even moreso than the 360, as is expected..
Kingdom Under Fire
Read EGM's review on KUD....hint...it's not good......and you guys use to laugh at EGM's review on Lair.
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Splinter Cell is done, Assasins Creed #2. Another game with huge zombie like crowds and boring gameplay. No soul, no guts.
Also, current word running the rumor mill is that Konami either A) refused a moneyhat from Sony to make MGS4 exclusive or B) returned a moneyhat to Sony that was meant to keep MGS4 exclusive. If nothing else, it looks like Konami wants to keep their options open. What's all this fascination with MGS4 from botting fanboys, I thought Splinter Cell was better, guys are losing sleep and dreaming that MGS4 comes to the 360, I guess the writing was always on the wall. Anyways, MGS4+Online is where it's at for stealth games in 2008, only on the PS3.
ONLY ON PS3 in 2008:
MGS4, INFAMOUS, GT5, KILLZONE2, TEKKEN 6, RESISTANCE 2, MOTORSTORM2, LBP, HOT SHOTS 5, MLB THE SHOW 08, THE AGNECY, FREE REALMS, EIGHT DAYS, THE GETAWAY, WARDEVIL, WIPEOUT HD, SOCOM CONFRONTATION, FF13 AND VS, WHITE KNIGHT STORY, SINGSTAR, HAZE, DC UNIVERSE AND THE GETAWAY.
Frankly, this is just the tip of the iceberg, as there are many unannouced titles and more titles to be shown, the PSN is going to receive an overload this year with original content and Sony has also recruited a Japanese firm to remake some PS2 classics ala Tekken DR Online. Factor 5 has a PSN game coming along, and so does Fumito Ueda. This is going to be a stomping year for the PS3 as it relates to content, it will be a really prolific year for the brand bar none.

I think the PS3 has a great lineup for 08, if they all turn out good. Some are slam dunks but others are questionable. But I'm disappointed at the lack of rpgs, but unfortunately rpgs are probably really cost prohibitive this time around. With Japanese support on shaky ground and western devs so limited in their focus my hopes aren't real high.
I'm surprised to see Heavy Rain on the list. I hadn't heard anything about that game for a long while. I thought it got canceled.

Jesus H. Christ that's a freaking amazing list of titles. Looks like 2008 is going to blow the stuffing out of 2007 as far as gaming and I are concerned.

If there are more non-FPS games than last year, then I agree with ilnadmy's statement. And it already appears that this will be the case, for both systems, so it's looking good for me.
But Ferrari Challenge? Come on. I have never played a good licenced car-named game. Ever.
I also counted 7 shooters out of the 20 exclusives. With the exception of MGS4 and probably Killzone 2, unless these games are something special, I won't even bother. I already have too many shooters on my dumb list.
Now, with the exception of MGS4, LBP, and possibly Final Fantasy Trece, there are about 25 games listed in the multi-plat section that I am looking foward to probably more than any of the PS3 exclusives. Same goes for the 360 with the exceptions being Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, and possibly Lost Odyssey.
DoopS! I forgot to mention the excellent DL games that will be coming. Most notably Rez, Ikaruga, Echochrome, Flower, SoldnerX, and any other shmups.

The games I am actually looking at that have been listed here are:
Infinite Undiscovery
Alan Wake
MGS4
Tekken 6
Little Big Planet
The Agency
War Devil
FF13
VS
Haze
Not really sold on Infamous (City of Heroes meets Gundam? Whatever. Not even close)
The Agency, if ever I got a decent Ping connection, coudl be interesting it sounds like Splinter Cell's spies and mercs but in MMO format. And... I can play it on my PC.
Since WKStory is by Level-5, I am sort of tempering any expectations for it because Level 5 tends to get too "kiddy" and I am not in the mood for any of that for a while.
You know Cuddly, I actually liked Lamborghini American Challenge all things considered, back in the day. But I'm not a racing connossieur.

The hilarious thing is that Sony has one potential killer app that absolutely blows away anything on the 360 in the area that it supposedly dominates other consoles in: online play:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/844/844374p1.html
Xbox Live's been around 5 years and they still don't have a MMORPG (or in this case a MMORPG with great action/stealth elements). BTW, Sony just announced XMB during gameplay, ingame friend lists, etc. is coming in the next PSN update. So now there's nothing distinguishing Live from PSN (other than the free play). And all this before Home has even launched.
Hope you Xbots enjoy paying 50 bucks for nothing. Actually, I'm wrong. You guys get to pay $50 for an unrelaible network brand new dashboard colors!

Live is more than just a friends list. And having just a XMB in game still isn't reaching live. You bums seem so intent on boosting up the PSN when the fact is that right now it's not even as feature rich as live was LAST GEN.
It's funny how you guys are so quick to drink the Sony kool aid on anything no matter how many times Sony doesn't deliver on there promises you guys still drink the milk like the tit sucking idiots you are.
As for the price of live you pay for what you get. Turning on the 360 and the online intergration is so robust that it's night and day compared to the PSN and it makes the price of $50 a year worth.
But then the network goes and crash over the holidays :mad2: but hey. The day that Sony truly matches MS in online and when we can debate reality with reality instead of reality with a promise like so many of you Milkdrinkers like to do then we can take up this discussion.
P.S,. as a PS3 owner Home still sounds ridiculous.

Paying for an online service is ridiculous. I don't care if they give you a free eye scan every time you log on, paying to play online is retarded. I don't need an integrated friends list or MS-managed servers, all I want is to play online. I can get that for free on PS3 and PC. That's all I need. You can keep your $50 a year XBL.

You're not getting any MS managed servers either. Live is nothing more then glorified peer to peer. The only reason the bot contingent like Drunken, Glock and TMG defend it is because they don't want to look like idiots for paying for it.

I was looking up some info on Haze because the gameplay sounds really intriguing. Playing dead, making the enemies O.D. on their nectar drug going nuts killing each other, the utopian illusion and enhanced abilities the drug provides. That stuff sounds interesting and I'm not even a FPS fan. But I was surprised at the number of Crysis vs. Haze threads I came across. Even on youtube even though it appears to be the same set of screenshots. Apparently Haze must be close to warrant the comparison. It won't match Cyrsis in graphics obviously but it might be poised to beat out Uncharted.

No, I defend it because I LOVE it.
Xbox Live is a service. And at, what?, 96 cents a week, I think it's the greatest value in all of videogames.
And the only reason y'all hate on it is because it's an MS/Xbox thing. If Sony were offering this service, at the same price, you would be all about it.

Just updating this killer lineup,
EGM Score
Kingdom Under Fire: COD - 3, 4, 4
The Good: Mildy engaging online co-op
The Bad: it's an absolute bore to play
Like I said, its the xbots who'll be doing the weeping. So far a stellar rating of 57% on gamerankings.
Mochan

I honestly can't believe any Xbot would be pimping Kingdom Under Fire. It just reeks of desperation to be pimping a game from a genre most XBots don't even play.
This series was "mildly successful" on the PC (read: people were playing Battle Realms and Warcraft 3 over it) and thanks to this warm reception it migrated to the Xbox were it was "reasonably successful" (read: people were playing Halo 2 over it).
I mean I don't even remember anyone on this board playing Crusaders, which was apparently the best title in the entire "successful" KuF series.
Circle of Doom is getting shafted left and right in the reviews, this doesn't mean much in terms of how much anyone here will enjoy it but as TMG likes to say reviews affect games in terms of sales et al so how is any XBot going to argue that KUFCOD is a killer app on this revitalized 2008 360 lineup? Xbots as we know rely on sales and reviews in naming which games are killer.

ITs not the best either. But last time I checked the last great RPG that was on the PS3 that had a good gamerankings score was an Xbox 360 port.(Elder Scrolls) Since then.....nothing. At least Lost Odyssey gave a good showing. When is PS3 owners going to get that? A game that isnt a port for a change? Lost Odyssey didnt go down in flames at all.
