Any predictions for 2008? Anything you think'll be a suprise hit? Any big '08 title that won't come out until '09? What games do you KNOW you are buying? Any systems you plan on picking up that you don't have (Mochan, will you pick up ANY next gen system this year?)

I don't have any predictions yet, but if the 1st quarter release dates hold firm, I've got a busy next 3 months, because almost all of the following games are must-buys to me:

No More Heroes (Wii)
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii)
Patapon (Psp)
Burnout Paradise (Ps3--the demo has won me over)
Endless Ocean (Wii)
Okami (Wii)

Also considering first quarter releases like Hot Shots Golf 5. Devil May Cry 4 is still apparantly on for february. Just beyond the 1st quarter, suposedly we're getting Little Big Planet and Ninja Gaiden DS in April.

This MIGHT be the year I get a 360, supposedly theres a redesigned system to be launched later this year? And t itles like Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, and Culdcept Saga will further interest me in the system, which also has some killer XBLA content I'm itching to get at.

Will MGS 4, Gran Turismo, and FF XIII actually make it out and turn things around for Ps3? When are we gonna see Rockstar's LA Noire and GTA 4?

Will 2008 be better or worse, overall, than '08? 360 had a string of killer titles this fall. Is the '08 lineup going to be anything like the string of games at the end of '08, Halo 3, Bioshock, CoD4, Orange Box, and Mass Effect?

Are there any less well known titles for '08 we should know about? Has anyone seen Borderlands? Will a game like that turn out as good as it sounds?

Next gen system, I dunno Gad, that *would* be a surprise because I really have my plate full I'm knee deep in PC games and handheld games that I have precious little time to finish. Let me say that I would have picked up a Wii already if I didn't have too many games to play, because if nothing else I really want to try Super Paper Mario (more than Galaxy actually) and Metroid.

The main reason I haven't picked up a nextgen console isn't that there are no good games for them, or the 360 is RRoDable, or PS3 is too expensive, or Wii is too low tech or any of that, it's just that I can't justify the purchase with all the games I have yet to play.

As for Borderlands it should be okay it basically sounds like Hellgate London, which contrary to all the bad press it is getting is an awesome game (though I admit it needs a LOT of polish). I don't think it will have as much depth as Hellgate but we shall see, at least it will have vehicles and I am sure it will have better graphics and animations.

Regarding surprise sleeper hits I don't know I haven't really been looking at the new games coming out mostly I'm just following the high profile ones as I listed in the other topic where we were talking about 2008 topping 2007.

Lots of potential twos that I may have to pick up (may or may not all be released this year, if ever):

Gish 2
Mafia 2
Sacred 2
<strike>Omikron 2</strike> :(
StarCraft 2
Divine Divinity 2
Natural Selection 2

Then there are the threes to be cautiously optimistic about (with good reason):

Fallout 3
<strike>Deus Ex 3</strike> (Hmm, make that 2009)

And I'm somewhat anti-MMORPG, but I might try out <strike>Ragnarok Online 2</strike> Age of Conan.

Those are a few of the games I'll be keeping an eye on anyway.

Going to buy for sure:

Devil May Cry 4 (obvious buy but watch me tear it apart when it comes out. I seriously hope they held back more surprises then Capcom's showed so far because if they haven't and the story let's me down, this could go the way of RE4)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (will buy it if only to make snide comments now and then that make Cuddly pull out his hair. :D Seriously though, I liked Ninja Gaiden and would not have played Sigma through to completion again if I didn't. I'll probably like this one too.)
Street Fighter 4 (The few snippets of gameplay I've seen show some promise and it's SF. Hopefully Capcom doesn't pull a Sega and drives one of their old franchises into the ground.)
Soul Calibur 4 (will buy it because it's one of my faves.)
Tekken 6 (will buy it just cause)

On the watch list/May buy:

Ryu Ga Gotaku Kenzan aka Yakuza 3 (This could be as close to Way of the Samurai as I get this gen)
Infamous (Apparently it's like Crackdown without the mind numbing stupidity of using your super powers to chase down regular peons.)
Dark Sector (Looks like Gears meets Resident Evil with its own little flair. If they pull everything off, it'll be a must buy)
Little Big Planet (This game may be the sole platformer I buy next year.)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Don't know whether I want it or not. If I go through a dry spell, I'll probably get it.)
Alone in the Dark 5 (from the few trailers I've seen, it seems ok.)
Silent Hill 5 (curious about how a western team will remodel the franchise. I put it at a 50/50 chance that they'll destroy the series although Konami started the process with SH4)
Too Human (this one is more of tentative thing. If they end up going with the twin stick combat, it'll be one less title for me to worry about)
Bionic Commando (I do not like the fact that Capcom is not behind this but I'll keep an eye on it just in case. There's a slim chance it may turn out to be good.)
Dark Void (same as above)

Hope it makes it out in 2008:

Resident Evil 5
Alan Wake

Hmmm... I don't have much to say about 2008. I already made my predictions (more of the same). I guess I just don't have a lot of expectations for the year.

What games do I KNOW I am buying? Splinter Cell Conviction, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and Tom Clancy's EndWar... and that's it.

There's a few other games that I KNOW I'll buy as soon as they come out... the question is: When are they going to come out? Halo Wars; Fable 2; Too Human; Alan Wake; Echochrome... these games are NOT locks for 2008.

Other 2008 games that I'm hawking: Culdcept Saga; Lost Odyssey; Condemned 2; Mercenaries 2; Ninja Gaiden 2; Ninja Gaiden DS; Dragons Lair; God of War: Chains of Olympus; The Elder Scolls Travels: Oblivion; Fallout 3; Marvel Universe Online; and Castle Crashers

Are there any less well known titles for '08 we should know about? None that I know of yet. But I'm sure there will be a few, and I'm sure they will be on Xbox Live Arcade.

I know its a little late but Merry X-mas & Happy New Year to everyone here in VGR. Cant believe its been about 8 years now right here in VGR for me. Wow. How fast time has flown. Well, enough with all that on to games of 2008.

No doubt this year has alot of great titles coming for all 3 next-gen consoles. Starting Next month with Devil May Cry 4.Then later on Soul Calibur 4. Those are the two games that I cant wait for to kick off the year. After that its too many to count. MGS4 of course is the game PS3 owners are dying to play. Too bad everytime you turn around its being delayed yet again. Last I heard now its been pushed back even further. Granted the longer it takes the better the game should be. I am actually looking forward to seeing how well the game sells and how well it actually plays. I'll never buy a PS3 for it though. But overall I think this year indeed will kick ass for all 3 consoles.

I'm concerned that 07 cannot be topped for a while, 08 may be a turd of a year for gaming as I see it. Reason? Most good games take MORE than a year to make. We won't see a Bioware game, we may not see a Bungie game unless RTS is your thing on a console (not). Capcom, they would have to be pretty special to outdo themselves for what they did in 07. Fable 2, Mecenaries 2 and Turok look to limp things along nicely, I hope.

On the Wii front, I really haven't seen all that much I want on the Wii lately. Sure I bought Nights the other day, but beat it in an afternoon. Honestly, Raving Rabbids 2 and Mario Galaxy is the only two games to interest me much.

PS3? Since I got Warhawk I simply don't care when another PS3 comes out that I want.

We won't see a Bioware game, </i>

Thank god. That already makes the prospects for 2008 brighter. Or maybe not. Maybe Dragon Age will finally show up... that's been under production for a lot longer than a year. Maybe it will finally show up Q4 of 2008.

Good thread. I have a feeling '08 will be an even better year for me than '07, and that was the best gaming year I have had since 2001.

Here's what I'm definitely going to try and get this year:

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom
Burnout Paradise
Devil May Cry 4
Army of Two
Mercenaries 2
Saint's Row 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Iron Man
Grand Theft Auto 4
Splinter Cell Conviction
Fallout 3
Fable 2
Midnight Club: LA
Golden Axe
Bionic Commando
Ninja Gaiden 2
Too Human
Sacred 2
God of War: Chains of Olympus (only if I can get back into playing my PSP)
Star Wars: Force Unleashed (only if it turns out to be solid)

I'm looking forward to a lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if I boot off a couple of games from this list.

Capcom, they would have to be pretty special to outdo themselves for what they did in 07.

You must have enjoyed Lost Planet a whole lot to make that comment.

IMO, Capcom was horrible in 2007. They made only one game for 360 and two games for the Wii. And one of those two games for the Wii was a port from nearly three years ago. If Sengoku Basara 2 had made it out here, then maybe you might have a point but they didn't. Their 2006 lineup was much better and their 2008 lineup is already looking somewhat promising. We've got DMC4, Super Turbo HD for PSN and Live Arcade, Okami for Wii, Street Fighter 4 and hopefully RE5 makes it by the end of the year.

.

Yep, it had the right feel to it to me. The story, gameplay and characters all appealed to me greatly, and the graphics were pretty spectacular. The game had the right mix of on-foot quality gaming and mech driven hell raising goodness. There were other games in 07 that were better, but only marginally better. Lost Planet seems to be one of those weird love it or hate it games I guess.

Still looking for some predictions on 2008? No, I still don't have any (shocking, I know!), but GameDaily does.(!) Road Rash?! KOTOR III?! Free Zune with with purchase of a 360?! EA to buy Sega and Atari?! GameDaily's got guts... and they're goin' nuts. Read on! (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/galleries/gamedailys-video-game-predictions-for-2008/160/?page=1)

I've been hearing a couple of Road Rash rumors from EGM. I hope that one is true.

KOTOR III? Depends on the developers.

Does Atari have any value to publishers? What IPs do they own that are of interest, besides Bullet Witch :) and possibly Test Drive?

A free Zune is a good idea.

Wiki says Atari owns Dragon Ball games, Godzilla melee games, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and Neverwinter Nights.

And I goota agree with Dancer. Lost Planet was a very good game. graphics were sick, gunplay/mechplay was solid, and the bosses were mostly fun. Online was pretty cool also, only it seemed a little slow-paced because the maps were so huge.
