Time's 10 best games are:
#1 - Halo3
Like a pebble that has been rounded over the centuries by the gentle splashing of the ocean waves, Halo 3 has become the perfect hardcore first-person combat simulator. By dint of painstaking labor on the part of its developer, Bungie, it has been refined over three installments to the point where it delivers only pure, unadulterated gaming bliss. Every combat is even-sided and complex and can be waged in multiple ways, using an arsenal of long- and short-range weapons, plus grenades and hand-to-hand moves. Every level is perfectly paced and balanced and graced with soaring architectural compositions. Plus it's graphically gorgeous. The epic storyline and the stirring score don't hurt either. In one of the greatest years video gaming has ever seen, Halo 3 is the very best of the bunch.
#2 - Orange Box
I find this a strange choice given that 90% of the game is rehash. And only the second add-on was actually any good. I understand TF2 is tha dooky, but come on. The port of HL2 was garbage on 360 and PS3(ha ha Whacktard!), how can you reward such a sloppy job? I can't believe so many people fell sucker for this game, both critically and monetarily.
#3 - RockBand
#4 - Super Mario Galaxy
Zzzzzzzzzzz...and more zzzzzzzs
#5 - Bioshock
Its funny because after Halo3 and Bioshock, I expected COD4 and ME and Assassin's Creed to actually be better and I thought the GOTY would come from one of those three. But in retrospect Bioshock was definitely deserving. I haven't looked at AC or ME yet, but Bioshock was WAY better than COD4, I remember thinking the enemy AI in Bioshock was weak, huh, then I played COD4.
Game Informer picked Bioshock as GOTY, I was surprised. I thought they would suck up and choose SMG.
Anyway, looks like there won't be a clear cut GOTY this year. But there is no doubt that three best games of the year based on the medias choices seem to be Halo3, Bioshock and COD4 in no particular order. Kinda crazy that they all are on 360.
Game Informer also voted Microsoft as the top publisher of 2007. Guess that puts to bed who has the best 1st party games. They pointed out Halo3, ME, PGR4, Crackdown, and Blue Dragon, funny they didn't mention Forza2. Sim racers get no love. Nintendo was #3 and Sony was #5 mainly on the strength of PSP and PS2 games lol.
So here's to 2007, the year of the 360!
