View Full Version : So what's Xbox going to do in November?

In getting ready to pick up my xbox friday, I went to six different stores and asked them all if they had any special offer with the xbox besides the crap bundle with Clonewars/tetris. Only one store currently had a mail-in rebate going, but they ALL said there was something coming for xbox in November but they didn't know what it was yet. Game bundle or price drop probably? EB Games mgr. actually said they were devoting November to Xbox.

So, do you think they're finally gonna bundle Halo, drop the price, or both? Will this be too little too late considering the hype Mario Kart is likely to create?

(and dammit, I know I'm gonna buy an xbox and two weeks later they'll drop the price by 50 bucks; but when I decide to do something I'm not good at waiting, not even for a few weeks.)

On a completely unrelated side note, one place had Voodoo Vince up as a demo; I hadn't tried that one at all yet. I played for quite awhile and was completely blown away, so much so that I just went ahead and slapped it on the credit card. If you've read more than one post by me, you know I love artistic weird creative stuff. This game is IT. If the full game pans out like the early stages, this will go on my list with Pikmin and Ikargua as cool games I babble about too much.

The only rumor I know of regarding xbox bundling is that MS will replace the Adrenaline Pack up here in Canada(which consists of Halo/Amped pack-ins) with a Quest Bundle(SW:KOTOR and MA as pack-ins) which supposedly takes place on Oct. 29th. I'm not placing too much faith in this rumor, but who knows. Perhaps this bundle could filter south of the border if it materializes.

Yeah, for november, xbox is vendor of the month. If there's a price drop or new pack-in on the horizon stateside, I don't expect it until closer to American Thanksgiving, which is your guy's biggest shopping weekend of the year. Nintendo has their Zelda gamecube bundle slated for November 17th.

Voodoo Vince oozes styles, but the gameplay mechanics are all too familiar along with generic enemies. Some of the puzzles are neat, I'm not bothered by VV's voice as apparently some reviewers are, although, the voice doesn't fit the character. The voodoo powers are gimmicky as they're essentially just a special attack. Cool animations but nothing more. I was hoping, that the various voodoo powers would have some specific purpose, but it just doesn't appear to be the case. One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. If VV drops to greatest hits pricing, I'll pick it up.

I hate to overhype sheet... but just wait until you try Munch's Oddysee!
Now please, forget I said anything.

As far as November news for the XBox goes though...
well... I'm not quite sure what to say - or think - about that.

It could be a price drop. ???
Then again, maybe it's just all about XBox Live games and Halo tournaments. ??? There's a freaking ton of XBox Live games coming out between now and Thanksgiving, you know?

You might want to check back with some of those stores and ask the manager if they can do a within-30-days-of-the-date-of-purchase-on-the-receipt-credit/reimbursement-type deal.

[That's why I like going to the specialty vg stores, regularly.
Become a loyal patron, get to know the manager(s) - that is: shoot the ***, talk about some games, let them "sell" you something (a reservation or whatnot), and, most importantly... don't ask for any favors, freebies, "special pricing", or any of that BS - and they might be willing to do something for you, on something like this.]

My guess would be a better bundle than the Tetris/Clone War bundle because that just isn't going to get it done this Christmas against a $99 Gamecube. MS UK announced a bundle with Halo, Midtown Madness 3, and a two-month subscription to Live at the same price as the current Xbox bundle. I'm thinking in the US, Xbox will stay at $170 and be bundled with Halo and another game (definitely one that is Live capable), plus a two-month subscription to Live. MS has to have noticed two things: (1) that the Tetris/Clone War bundle was a mistake and (2) there's a big increase in GC sales right now. I would be surprised if they DIDN'T announce an exciting bundle.

M$ dropped the price of the Xbox in Japan - with a new bundle to boot...

Japan: Xbox Price Drop
By Mike Viscel -- News Writer
Published 8:55 AM CDT, October 28, 2003

Reports indicate that Microsoft is planning a fairly drastic price drop in Japan.

According to reports, Microsoft is planning on slashing the price of the Xbox, which is currently priced at 24,800 yen (USD 228). The price reduction will slash the Xbox price tag to 16,800 yen (USD 155). The price reduction is said to be set for November 20, 2003.

Furthermore, Microsoft will offer a great bundle for a reduced price on the same day. According to the reports, Microsoft will offer a bundle containing Project Gotham 2, Halo, DVD Playback Kit, two months of Live, one controller and the console for only 19,800 yen (USD 182).

Microsoft has not confirmed or denied these reports.

Now if M$ decided they wanted my money this holiday season, they would put out a bundle Xbox, S controller, DVD remote, KotOR and Crimson Skies for $150.00 - I would buy that the first day it was available. It won't happen, but imagine if it did.

I don't understand why MS isn't packing better titles in with Xbox. I mean, geez, they could pack in the OLD Oddworld game that launched with Xbox and people would enjoy it moreso than Clone Wars. Oddworld and DOA3 would make a great pack in for people NOT interested in LIVE. THere should definately be more than 1 bundle in America.

As far as Voodoo Vince goes, I've yet to find a platformer which sports such gorgeous, massive, detailed, and atmospheric environments. Of course I finished VV in a short period of time though...makes me wonder why more games don't reuse levels...oh that's right, it's only ok to reuse levels on a Nintendo system(Mario 64), if it reuses levels on XBox it might as well be called Halo and it sucks right?

Did MS bundle Halo and Amped together? Or did some electronics store or website?

The only bundles I'm aware of that MS did, was the Sega GT/Jet Set Radio Future/S controller one and the current Clone Wars/Tetris one.

My wife and I have had an absolute blast with Voodoo Vince. If you like the early stages, you will love this game all the way through. Just wait until you get into the carnival and see Vince's reflections in the mirrors and such. This game is wacky & weird through & through.

And like Glock said, you will love Munch's Oddysee. This game is a blast. You have to actually use your noodle and think your way through things. Like how to get a dozen Mudokons through a long corridor with bombs dropping everywhere. The game forces you to use both Abe & Munch.

Well, here's "one thing" that I know for sure that they'll be doing in November...

... and that's adding: Mechassault, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, among others, to the XBox's $19.99 Platinum Hits collection!

The adrenaline pack is a "Canada only" bundle. It sells for $30 more than the Clone Wars/Tetris bundle.
