Did you watch it? I guess it debuted Friday night and was shown again last night (Sunday night). When they'll do another replay I don't know.
Link to Spike TV VGA's webpage. (http://www.ifilm.com/show/23733)
The winners are listed below. So if you don't want anything "spoiled", and you want to see the show (and all the painted models) for yourself, then stop reading.
For those that don't really give a frack... who cares about the Spike VGA's... they're a joke... why I'm even posting this?...

Super Mario Galaxy is NOT an adventure game! What the hell is wrong with these people? Portal wins "Best Breakthrough Technology"? What technology? That should have gone to Crysis. And how did Uncharted not win the "Best PS3 Game" award? Bollocks. Well at least they didn't cop out and give Halo 3 GOTY, or even Best Shooter (which rightfully went to COD4).
But don't show that "Best Military Game" section to TMG. He might blow a fuse seeing that COD4 beat out GRAW2 and Vegas...

There's quite a few things that I don't agree with, but there's one that I'm surprised at: DiRT winning the best driving game. I completely agree, but I would have thought this award (?) show would have gone with a big name game instead.
I would have given best PS3 game to Heavenly Sword, and put Bioshock in the most overrated game category, along with The Orange Box.

I never liked the Video Game Awards. They are hosted by and full of a bunch of annoying people unrelated to video games. They need to ditch the rap music and get some game industry people to host it.

Pfft Bioshock is GOTY? Whatever.
Call of Duty 4 edges it out as best shooter AND bags Best Military to boot, but Bioshock still gets GOTY nod? Whatever.
The Witcher doesn't even get so much as a nomination? Travesty. I can understand giving the nod to Mass Effect but seriously not even a nomination? Ditto Crysis, why isn't it at least on the Shooter list? They've made it clear Bioshock ain't a shooter by giving best shooter nod to COD4, maybe they could have just dropped it from the nominee list altogether and put in something more deserving to even at least be in the running?
Super Mario Galaxy is NOT an adventure game! What the hell is wrong with these people?
Well to be fair they pegged it as an "action game" not "adventure game."
I like video game awards schticks. It gives me something to whine, ***** and moan about.

I noticed Orange Box made the nomination list for both Shooters and Game of the Year awards, but not Crysis?
I still can't wrap my mind about the praise OB is getting. It's an expanded re-release of Half Life 2 (a 3 year old game). If Valve released EP2, TF2, and Portal as a separate expansion pack, would it still be getting the same hoopla as it is now?

One thing people seem to have a misconception about Crysis is that it's just a dumb blond game: all good graphcis and no substance. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you read GameNode review for Crysis (the lowest score it received in the GameRankings composite) this is a publication that openly admits they were trying to hate Crysis (for whatever reason that floats their boat) but after playing through it they simply couldn't: the game is genuinenly brilliant and constantly pulls things out of its hat that keep it fresh and deep. Anyone who plays the game can't deny its brilliance. It is not perfect, it has some issues (mostly minor ones) that keep it from really being perfect, but again what game is?
It's not just an eye candy fest the game has levels and situations that really put you through new gameplay experiences, even if according to the review it ends in some hackneyed end boss fight (but hey... so did Bioshock and nobody complained about that). Play the game and know. I am playing through it right now and I can attest to this, and apparently even these reviewers who are trying to bring the game down have to grudgingly admit it. This is no dumb blonde game.
I get the feeling the Spike people didn't even play the game if all they could do was give it a "best graphics" award. They are clearly falling into the dumb blonde trap.

I recorded it but I haven't watched it. I watched the two guys Parkouring around the place, and that sequence took so long I just said f'k it I'll watch it later. So I agree, too much showy crap that has nothing to do with games. They do have some cool guests sometimes like Samuel Jackson, and I like the raunchiness, but they need to tone it down a little and treat it a little more serious. Videogames is trouncing the hell out of movies and music and they have much more dignified award shows.

Quoted for the truth. How do people expect for games(and gamers) to be taken seriously when they put crap like this on, and make so where it appears that this show is legit? Any gamer who knows better understands that it's really just a waste of programming, minus a few good clips.
BTW, what did they premier at the show? All I kept hearing about is how they had eight world premiers to show everyone.

Bungie doesnt win Studio of the year? Super Mario beats out God Of War II for best acton/ adventure title? And COD 4 wins for best shooter over Halo III? LOL! This show had BS written all over it. Truly ghetto-fabulous.

If Bungie had won studio of the year and Halo 2.5 -- err I mean Halo 3 had won best shooter, then this show would have been even more of a joke.

Plus Super Mario winning over God Of War II was truly the mother of all BS of the whole show IMO.
Btw, have you bought a PS3 game yet?:aureola:
I've only had my 360 going on two months now and I have 7 games already.

Good for you. If you've been reading the forums you'll know I've talked about playing Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Assassin's Creed on the PS3. Therefore, yes, I have bought games for the PS3. I'm sorry that you can't use that argument anymore. You'll just have to rely on repeating another retarded comment from now on.

Work & family life can take up alot of time at times. I havent had time to play much either. But I'm getting back into the swing of things. Mass Effect kicks ass btw. So enough with the games that you currently rented what games did you actually buy for the PS3?

Bioshock IS GOTY, I mean, well, actually TF2 is but as a single player game, nothing touches Bioshock.

Bah Dark Messiah was still a better single player run! And it had funky multiplayer too.

You know, I had successfully avoided seeing or hearing anything about this year's Spike awards "thing"--at least any more than I had to. I even managed to avoid clicking on this thread knowing there would only disappointment and embarrassment lurking within. But I got an email from a less fortunate friend of mine and he felt compelled to share the stigmas of witnessing the event (well, just this small piece anyway). My purity compromised, I now feel obligated to drag you all down, too. It is the Gamecock/VGA way.

All I did was ask you what in fact did you buy for the PS3 considering how long you went without buying a PS3 game. I mean when most people around here buys something they brag about it. Hell, I brag about having 7 games just approaching the 2 month mark with my 360. And I've been playing it alot longer and still no Red rings.
I mean if in fact you did buy those games then I say good for you. By the way you're acting I'm not so sure that you actually did"buy"those games. But thats on you. Be Evil if you wish Padawan. I couldnt be happier with the 360. Mass Effect kicks ass!
Getting back to the Spike Awards:There were way too many misses more than hits on those picks. Wayyyyyyyyyy to many. I mean COD4 indeed is a great game. I got a chance to play this past weekend. And I must say its very impressive. Definately a must buy for my 360 in the future. But better than Halo 3? I dont think so. Saleswise & gamewise Halo 3 IMO is better. COD4 winning over Halo 3 was nothing short of bull####.
Same can definately be said about Mario beating out Kratos for best Action/ Adventure game too. Oh the stench.
